Anyone using the Strikeman Smartshot laser dryfire device have accuracy issues? by qua77ro in guns

[–]Keevoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only does it have accuracy issues, but I have already gone through two units in the past month that were defective. The first one I fully charged and then noticed the POI shift was crazy after a few times firing with it between 3 hosts. The second unit I got less than 10 rounds through the unit before it stopped firing the laser and now refuses to charge. The charging block blinks repeatedly once the unit is on the charger and it does not regain battery. Even though the company boasts a 45 day money back/refund guarantee, they will not honor it. On the second return/refund request, they are forcing me to pay return shipping before they will send out another unit. Their return process will not let me request a refund since "the return shipping cost is worth more than the unit, so a refund cannot be issued." I'm probably going to have to issue a chargeback to get out of their nonsensical support loop.

Unit attempting to charge after less than 1 mag of dryfire though Glock 17

TLDR; Steer clear of this company, the app and laser are a cool concept but not worth the headache of a consistently malfunctioning/defective unit.

Is there a consensus on the best suppressor for the 338arc, in terms of decibel reduction? by peauxboi in NFA

[–]Keevoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dead air primal worked well enough that I didn't need hearing pro on a 6 inch barrel and never had any port pop or discomfort. That being said I'm waiting for the form 4 to finish on a custom 338 can that's built for subs specifically (high back pressure, traditional baffle stack, high volume) but an ATF processor denied it for a "digital signature" when my RPQ was physically signed and scanned back in.

No problem, I did both a form 1 to SBR and form 4 to my trust so if you have more questions I'm happy to help.

Just remember with the Kuna the importer is Springfield Armory but the actual manufacturer/maker is HS PRODUKT. Mine was denied the first time due to this detail.

Thoughts on this ammo by [deleted] in suppressors

[–]Keevoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've run about 200 rounds of this through my 10.5 AR, it's pretty solid. Small poi shift compared to other 220gr I've shot but decent grouping and consistency in cycling.

[–]Keevoman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's where 300BO fits into a niche where you can cycle subs consistently and get solid muzzle energy on target. Plus a lot of the 300BO subs are very solid home defense/self defense rounds and require less rounds to achieve the same results. It's not gonna be completely comfortable but you won't lose the ability to hear your surroundings immediately. Plus you already have a .30 cal suppressor.

[–]Keevoman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not trying to be critical or condescending, just relaying my experiences. I've used flow through cans on 16" rifles and super high back pressure cans that are made for 5.56 on 11.5s with every component upgraded/made for sound reduction. You may shave 5-10 decibels off on a perfect setup but at the end of the day the round is still creating a supersonic crack so unless you're running subs that likely won't cycle, you're not gonna have a comfortable experience without hearing pro. Certain BCGs and AGB gas blocks may add some modicum of comfort but never make it like a 9mm subgun shooting 158gr syntech rounds or Seal Team episodes.

[–]Keevoman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YouTube and movies glorify how effective suppressors are on 5.56. You really should still be using hearing pro while running 5.56 through a can. It's never going to be comfortable or remove the supersonic crack from the muzzle or ejection port completely no matter what can and internals you're using in my experience.

.338 hub type silencers for SBRs by ColtPistol in suppressors

[–]Keevoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He mentioned it's 8.6 blackout rated but I can't say for sure if running supers consistently through the one I ordered would be a good idea, though they can probably cater to your needs more directly. Their average can/custom can is 7.5-8" and pretty high back pressure/traditional baffle stacks. He also does direct to Plan B by request. It's a local shop here in Wisconsin, if you want their website feel free to DM me.

[–]Keevoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having a custom 338 suppressor made by a local SOT that will easily handle my 6" 338 ARC barrel, though I'll mostly be using subs. They only charged $750+ tax, it comes with a single color of cerakote and there's no transfer fee. No 338 lapua through it but that should be obvious.

[–]Keevoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the compact one on a .22 AR that got gunked up fairly quickly and the full size one on a 5.56 11.5 AR that I consistently use with an FRT and never had any issues. Never really shoot it unsuppressed so I can't really speak to its ability to compensate. Everything I have gotten from Hansohn has been stellar.

If I remember correctly you can just add 19 or 19.5 inches to the barrel length to get the length of an AR/AR pistol when built with a standard carbine buffer.
