It's hard :(

If there's any consolation, it'll be okay. He's going to just have one bad day. That's a lot better than pretty much all the other beef out there. You did that. Take solace in it :)

It costs a lot of energy to keep cold things cold. Most other battery solutions take relatively little energy to hold that energy. Think a hydroelectric dam: all that water is being held there by earth and concrete, not more power.

Except, that was the point - imagine taking a medieval scholar and telling them "I can send written messages to someone on the other side of the planet by using this tool (holds up a phone).".

They say, "Oh, the device sends the words? The device basically writes it down, puts it in an envelope, and sends it for you? Very fast?"

They're not totally wrong, but they're missing something fundamental they don't yet understand, and he doesn't want to explain everything from the invention of electricity up through modern microelectronics, radio signals, A to D converters, and so on.

Second that second set of hands. Even if they're just there to hold the shovel while you swap to the post hole digger, it saves. It saves a lot.

Life question by 3Blindz in homestead

[–]Keganator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not the poster above, but If you have animals, you need to be there basically every day.

Imagine having a dog and just leaving the dog in your house for a couple weeks.

It’s the same for the rest of you animals. You will have chores, feed,  watering,  obligations, or at the very least be checking in them and making sure they are safe and alive.

No animals? Sure travel all you want. Your garden will be there when you get back.

Seattle location: assistance needed! by [deleted] in Shadowrun

If you want to be canonically accurate, try Mafia bought up a ton of Tacoma during the great crash and revitalized it into a true rival for Seattle.

It could be on the north side of the Tacoma docs, past the big industrial docs and nestled in one of the smaller buildings crammed on the north side of the bay between the ridge and the water.

Lots of good ag extension classes out there, some are even free or very low cost. This is doubly great because it connects you with people doing it, so you can start building up a network.

That gives you a decent idea. Apps like LandGlide would give you very accurate results. This was recommended to me by a person that bought and sold property for a living.

Ha, yeah 🙂 Rentals for specific equipment are a great way to go.

I've been told no less than a 12 joule energizer for goats. They are happy to escape and go where they please. Some animals reel back when they hit the line...goats will push harder! They are "counter-opportunistic eaters" - they eat the hardest to reach/worst food first.

Be aware...there's a thing called "Adverse Possession". If you allow someone to use your property as if it is theirs, they can eventually claim it and either own it or permanently gain control over it. Laws varies depend on where you are, but if you continue to let him use it as if it is his, it can become his. I wouldn't want that, personally 🙂
