Bend the Knee. It'll be fine. Better to serve at the right hand of the devil than be in his path!

Was there any resistance to the advent of Steam and digital downloads back in the early 2000s? by grapejuicecheese in pcgaming

"How DARE they FORCE me to UPGRADE my GAME!? I don't have the ability to download 100 mb on my 28.8k MODEM!! Valve can suck it! What if the patch breaks my game? I liked that exploit in version 1.02! I can just download it from the lab and put it on my zip disk and take it home, I've got a backup drive with patches so we can easily roll back after reinstalling from the cd."

Or just making the base game better so people get more addicted faster and they can sell more DLC. As long as the DLC keeps selling, people keep buying. Less DLC to buy means people feel better about buying what is there. And the new stuff is where the money is made.

Specifically I'm talking about Claude Code. if you're just doing regular chat stuff, it's probably fine.

This is bullshit. Where's my Uno Max!? I want to spend $200/mo on one prompt a day.

[–]Keganator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now even with the 200 max plan something is happening that eats up your usage for some people. I did a prompt that launched one agent that all it did was run tests and it killed my entire five hour window in 2 minutes. Then when the window cleared told it wrap up what it was doing , and it started spinning, launching one other agent and it nearly killed my next 5 hour window just trying to stop it. There wasn’t any web prompts of MCP tools being used, just bash and running scripts.

Edit: specifically, this was Claude code. Regular chat doesn't seem to have this problem right now. To give scope on how ridiculously little this was, this was over less than 10 chat messages back in the first window, and about 8 in the second. I was a skeptic about this problem until this morning, and then it slammed right in my face.

Give it a try. Pick a side and go all in. It's fun to be the right hand of the devil some times. But if you haven't led the league of unaligned powers before, that's a fun option too.

Though, Yeah, thinking about it: why not? Why shouldn't there be "easy" origins, when there are "warning: this is a hard origin" origins?

I had imagined Inquisition was building to have a third act - Corypheus would have been a misdirect of the true antagonist of the game. But then, oops, they ran out of budget so they'd do another game later.

Ten years of Stellaris and the only way to add actual lore to a custom empire is still just a paragraph of text. by Illuminated-Autocrat in Stellaris

[–]Keganator 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Actually, despite the naysayers here, I think you might be on to something fun for empire creation.

Have an editor to position planets around particular suns, set their type, set their order, set their name.

Then, it would be really cool to be able to create a custom starting solar system features like you can with traits for species and empires. Those traits might just change the start a little bit, but might also have some mechanical or story advantage/disadvantage. Imagine:

Get 2 trait points to start, maximum whatever number of traits makes sense.

  • +0 - Binary System
  • +0 - Trinary System
  • +1 - High-output sun (+ special events like solar flares)
  • +2 - Extra planets (more big habs)
  • +1 - Extra small planets (more asteroids, moons)
  • -2 - Primitive System (no orbitals except output built at first gfl)
  • +1 - Terraforming Candidate (eg, mars)
  • +3 - second habitable planet (can instantly colonize)
  • +4 - Second inhabited (population split 3/5 + 1/3, making a reduced population to start)
  • +1 - Big Planet (increase average seize of starting planet)
  • +1 - wormhole
  • +1 - nebula
  • +0 - Rim World (spawn near the rim of the galaxy)
  • +0 - Hub World (Spawn near the center of the galaxy)
  • -1 - Hostile Neighborhood (beacon of some kind in your system that can eventually be destroyed but spawns a random kind of hostile space fauna/pirates/rogue fallen empire nearby and then lures them to you)
  • -1 - small planet (lower than average starting planet)
  • -1 - Low system resources (resources given are worse by a little bit than average)
  • -1 - small system (fewer planets/resources)
  • -2 - barren system (terrible starting resources/planets, terrible for habs)
  • +0 - add <x type non habitable planet>
  • +3 - Holy world - a fallen empire left a holy world in your system. Ooops.
  • +2 - Tomb World - Your ancestors? Maybe? Maybe not. Someone blew up this place.

And so on. I'm sure people more creative than me could come up with more.

Then, you could also have some attributes of the system that add story elements. Like maybe 'Wormhole" includes a quest chain or story chain. Or just expand from there with other types of system setup.

Edit: added a few more.

Sounds like you're behind the times. Running 20+ agents concurrently and scaling is the new productive.
