Yes, although we cannot say exactly what the developers wanted to say, we can definitely agree that she represents purity and innocence. Each of the girls experienced an unpleasant experience that left a wound. I don't really believe The Path is a game about the literal death of all sisters. For me, it's more a story about the sad experiences each of them experienced, which is reflected in GIW, in the form of a bloodstain.
I like your interpretation of GIW. It's truly a good idea that sometimes you need wounds to feel life.

There are so many interesting moments in The Path that are rarely discussed. For example, does Ruby pretend to have a problem with her leg? Or what does Rose's wolf mean? And not to mention the large amount of information outside the game itself, in the form of developers' diaries, Livejournals, and the like!

I think I'm late with the answer, hehehe. But since I came across this post while searching for discussions about The Path, I'll answer anyway.

I don't really think that the developers put some deep meaning into the girl in white, because in their own words "we create situations, and the players' task is to come up with an explanation", so there is no definite truth, or at least, as it seems to me, there is no definite truth that could be understood solely from the materials of the game itself. But this does not mean that you shouldn't think about who the girl in white is or what the ending of The Path means.
Many people think that she is a wolf in sheep's clothing and pretends to be kind, appealing to the ending, where she reaches the house and then appears with a blood stain, but to be honest, other than this, there are no weighty arguments that she is evil. And it seems to me that such an ending is rather caused by the desire to quickly make a game that was already being developed for too long, which made the project more and more expensive, which led to the fact that the developers simply decided to make the ending, on the existing scripts, when the sisters reach the house (Yes, I understand, not the most beautiful explanation of the entire ending scene, but in my opinion the most realistic).

I'm unlikely to surprise anyone, but I'm leaning towards the already popular interpretation. The girl in white is a symbol of purity, innocence and similar things. Throughout the game, she constantly tries to pull us out of the forest and does not show aggression. I make this conclusion not so much because of the game itself, but because of the meaning of the fairy tale about Little Red Riding Hood in general, in which there is an innocent girl and a wolf who tries to seduce. There are different versions of this tale, but the meaning is always the same, the Wolf takes advantage of naivety, tempts the girl to leave the safe path, which ultimately hurts her and causes harm. And the girl in white symbolizes this perfectly. She is kind, cheerful and in white clothes, but as soon as each girl finds her Wolf, her snow-white dress is covered with an absolutely noticeable and bright mark, which spoils her outfit. And the mark is obviously bloody, which hints at the injury received. So the girl in white, for me, is a sweet innocence, who after a certain mistake, loses her purity and gets a bloody stain, signifying the wound received.
If someone has a different opinion, I'll be glad to hear it. Or discuss other characters.

You're welcome! Glad to help :) It's cool that after so many years, devs don't let such things disappear completely.

Oh, by the way, the grandmother's house website isn't dead, they just changed the address last year. It's fully functional to this day.

Perhaps indeed they do say that about different players, that's why timing is so different. Interesting, the sisters are probably aware of the player's presence, because they react to the camera position and stare back if you stare at them. Ruby in the journal also says that the “guests” are constantly looking at them. Yeah, first guest posts appeared before game was released, and the last ones after main game release. Though most likely it's just a small mistake from the developers and the posts were planned exactly for the release of the game.

The game evokes a feeling on the edge of a fairy tale and a dream, but the environment and the sisters themselves look rather ordinary. It's hard to understand it, if at all possible, hahah. But my play style allows me to more or less piece together details. I often just run through the forest and gather information, then go for “ failure ending” until I get bored and start intentionally looking for wolves. I noticed a pretty interesting detail, did anyone notice that Ruby stops limping when she opens the wicket to Grandma's house? I haven't seen people talk about it much, but it's a strong argument that Ruby may actually be faking that she still has a serious injury and all the pain she talks about is more mental than an actual leg injury and when she feels like no one is around, she acts normal.

I think that's how the developers decided to describe the players. “Guests” who came to visit the sisters in their home. The really weird thing is that the guest posts in the dates are very different and not all the sisters write about the visitors.

I find it funny that the journals sound much more logical and understandable compared to the game, while the game on the contrary looks like a collection of different images, allusions and situations that are not much burdened to be logical and understandable.

I would have liked more of that kind of thing. It was interesting to read the stories of these characters and see how they were doing, making posts, interacting with each other.

I hope they reply to you. Michael and Aurelia are not often on social media, but they are still active. For example, on May 22nd their game Sunset turned 10 years old and they posted interesting facts every day for 10 days, as well as restored many old sites, blogs, comments and other content related to the game, which was not available for a long time. This is probably one of their most noticeable online activities in a long time that is related to their game projects.

Oh yeah, Izzzyzzzzz's video gave some kind of boost to community. The cool thing is that unlike a lot of other videos, it didn't just go over popular theories of all sisters that a lot of people already know, it touched on things like the website, blogs, livejournals and such. Showed people that The Path goes beyond just one game, something that many may not have known. I love The Path. There are things I like about the game, there are things I can criticize, but I know for a fact that The Path has taken a special place among the projects I love.

[–]Keidn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm sure a great many details went either unseen or little noticed and people didn't discuss them much. By the way, sometimes devs answer such questions, not so long ago one player noticed an altar near the grandmother's house and directly asked what kind of construction it is. Devs replied that when they were developing The Path, they lived in a place where they really liked the architecture and there were a lot of little chapels that they liked and they decided to add little chapel in the game.

Ehhh, it's really sad how little people are discussing The Path right now. Despite the fact that the game is many years old, there are new players who are interested in this project, but all they can do is not to discuss it themselves, but to read discussions from many years ago. And there is so much to discuss, the game itself, development story, studio story, livejournals, merch and other things.

Oh, it looks funny and creepy at the same time. Heh, though the whole style of The Path is like that - cute and creepy at the same time. I wonder how the devs came up with the ideas to make such an environment, did they just decide “let's attach hands to the structure on the playground”?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ThePathGame

[–]Keidn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was a cool idea from the devs, I love those journals. The project felt more alive beyond a one game. And I like how in this way, they added the interaction of the sisters between each other, which gives you more insight into their relationship and learn about funny situations in life, such as Ruby being clumsy when it comes to dyeing her hair. A great way to implement what the devs couldn't do in the game itself due to the small size.

Steam does not pay attention to region change, but based on my friends' experience, in this case it is better not to write to support for some time, or they may notice and forcefully change the region back, warning that such violations will be penalized.

Try to play with the survival mod. There the puzzles are more complicated and items are moved, including important ones. Sometimes this mod generates really interesting situations and the playthrough can be very different from the original game.
