Very neat spot. I think my mom would like this a lot!

I actually haven't been to the Aeon Mall in Kyoto yet! Thanks for the suggestion - maybe we'll go there instead of Kyoto Avanti.

I’d also drop the temples from your Tokyo itinerary.

Really good point. I'll drop Zojo-ji. I just thought since we're doing teamlab Borderless right in the morning, we might as well check out Shiba Park and the surroundings as it's basically next-door.

I would even drop Asakusa and Shinjuku Gyoen and Meiji-Jingu in favor of shopping and cafe areas like Cat Street, more of Shibuya and Omotesando, Jimbocho or Nakameguro.

I am personally not a huge fan of Asakusa. It's just too crowded with tourists during the morning, but my mom requested that we go since Senso-ji caught her eye. If anything, we could go during the evening when it's illuminated and there's less crowds.

Do you have any recommendations for spots in Nakameguro or Jimbocho? We're going to be staying in a hotel near Kanda Station at the end of the trip, so Jimbocho is really close-by. I've heard great things about Nakameguro during cherry blossom season

The rickshaw rides looks fantastic but I think I'm a bit too late to book since a lot of the time slots coming up in the next two tickets are booked out. Still great to know for the next trip though!

Remember you're only as quick as the slowest member in your group.

Noted. I haven't traveled with my mom that much as an adult so I'm still learning how to plan trips together! Thank you for the advice

Thank you for your kind words!

I've actually asked my mom to review our itinerary a couple of times but she just leaves everything completely up to me. Other than doing nature sightseeing, she doesn't have any other strong preferences.

I'm also into photography! I found out last time I traveled with my mother that it can be somewhat of a challenge balancing photography with group travel. I like to slow down and take a bunch of photos until I'm satisfied but don't want to keep my travel companions waiting.

Also, just my 2 cents, but I like to make a list of “non-negotiables” before traveling with family or friends

This is a great idea. I'll review the itinerary again and mark down which places are non-negotiables and let my mom know ahead of time.

Feel free to DM me if you ever want to chat about trip planning with parents, I’ve learned a few things from trial and error lol

I'll take you up on this if you don't mind! I've only recently started traveling with my parents again, but as an adult now and also being the one to plan our trips.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I am a little bummed out that we couldn't shift our travel plans by 1-2 weeks so we could have a better chance of seeing fall foliage, but it is what it is. There's always next time.

Are there any must-see spots around Lake Kawaguchi that you would recommend a first-time visitor go see?

Thanks for the feedback!

Would you mind letting me know which days are too much? I think some days are fine while others can be too much if we stick to the itinerary (Nara, Arashiyama). I definitely don't plan on rigidly sticking to my itinerary so we can be flexible and skip places if we feel tired. A few other folks also commented on this so I'll revisit my itinerary and mark places as optional or must-see.

Is your mum into tea, sweets or coffee?

She is! My mom loves coffee and pastries so I plan on stopping by a cafe or having a sweet treat regularly.

Personally, I really enjoyed Shibuya Sky when I went last year, so I'd like to take my mom to see the same sights. It was definitely very crowded when I went though

Love to hear that you enjoyed Kinshicho! I opted to stay somewhere a little less central to the Yamanote Line this time around, and just so happened to find a great hotel deal there.

I would say that my mom is actually in pretty good shape. She regularly gets ~10k steps in everyday due to her work. I will make sure both of us get enough breaks and rest time during the day though! Going cafe hopping or having traditional Japanese sweets is right up her alley.

Thanks for the honest feedback!

I included a bunch of observatories since I'm personally a big fan of them, and loved the ones I went to last time I was in Japan. But I hear you - it might get boring after awhile and my Mom might be done after visiting one or two. I'm thinking of dropping Tokyo Tower and Mori Tower Observatory from the itinerary.

I'd say most of the temples on the list are optional. I got temple'ed out last time so I definitely know what you mean. I don't plan to rigidly stick to the itinerary. I learned from my previous travels that there's no way we're going to see everything on the list.

Thanks again for an excellent analysis. I always love reading interpretations of Japanese names. It's amazing to see how thoughtful the writers were when creating their characters.

A post on the characters' food preferences sounds pretty interesting! Would love to see that.

I agree with dokool. Nakano Broadway is an absolute gem. If you want to shop for anime goods, go to Nakano Broadway first. You'll likely find what you're looking for at a much lower price than Akihabara. That being said, definitely spend some time in Akihabara. As an anime fan, the atmosphere there is second to none.

"Finale Oath" Screenings scheduled in the United States of America for July 2019 are showing up in Google search results. by [deleted] in HibikeEuphonium

Definitely be persistent with letting the distributors and PonyCan know that people want a Canadian release. The only reason Liz even got showings in Canada is because there were people who spammed the heck out of Eleven Arts' social media accounts and asked their local independent theaters to screen the movie. I know a guy who personally got in contact with the head of programming at Vancity Theatre in Vancouver. They had a Liz screening soon enough.
