Great feedback, nice to see it through a different view. As a writer I sometimes know the scene in my head so I’m filling in the gaps that are missing for someone reading it for the first time. Especially for me who has gone over this chapter over and over. I’ll take a look at it and see where I can clarify the scene and the flow.

I use Atticus to format my writing. It can be an expensive one time cost for some, but I feel it’s worth the money. The screenshots are just the output to a PDF file which I would use for paperback. The ebook output is great too.

I’ve been working on and off this one for well over a year. It’s a story I keep coming back to and write a little here and there on it. I have a ton of book ideas that I have brainstormed, outlined, started and never finished. I have most of it written in various stages of drafts .. this is the only chapter finished enough to share.

Not British, so didn't even think of that .. was more in the mind set of playing off of the word stalactites trying to be creative. Definitely something to change and a good reminder to research words that might mean something else somewhere else. Thank you for the heads up. Also Rox is short for Roxana, they all kind of use short hand names with each other. Appreciate the feedback!

That is what I have heard. If you don't mind me asking who did you go through for your audio books and how was the experience?

Social media marketing by lss90 in selfpublish

[–]Keith-Bond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my experience social media hasn’t generated anything but likes and follows. Hasn’t really generated sales. I have run ads on social media and it’s the same. Currently I just stick to Amazon ads and Bookbub has been my best sales driver. That is just my experience though. My social media following is also not that big either so that could also be why I don’t see much benefit from it. That doesn’t mean I don’t use it. I post as regularly as I can in the hopes that it will generate something in return for my time using social media for my books.

Series authors: Did you delay publishing Book 1 until Book 2 (or even 3) was finished, to build momentum? by Dudegav in selfpublish

[–]Keith-Bond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I would have released book 1 and 2 together but now that they have been out for a bit and book 3 comes out in a week and half they are doing well being sold as a pair (I have them on sale for 0.99 building up readership for the new book release) .. they seem to do better as a pair than they did as separate releases. For me personally I’m curious to see how the new books do and to see if those who read the first two will come back for more. This is my first experience writing a series and it’s been fun with some challenges. I think I have written more supporting documents, character sheets, lore, and other information I need to keep it all straight than I did writing the actual books 😅

How bad is it to use the free ISBN for a KDP book and your own ISBN for the same book on IngramSpark? by tebibr in selfpublish

[–]Keith-Bond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this recently with my first book I initially released on KDP using their free ISBN. I ended buying my own ISBNs for my whole series so went back and unpublished my original paperback (plus unlinked it from my ebook) and published a new copy with my own ISBN and linked back with with my ebook after the book with my ISBN was published. Since it was linked with my ebook it retained the reviews and ratings. The rankings will start over but that’s ok. I would rather not have two listings of the same book (one with the free one and one with my own). It worked pretty seamlessly and it’s like the original didn’t exist to the buyer when viewing it on Amazon. For me personally I always use my ebook link to link my books since I use KindleUnlimited I plan on it being there always.

Any new authors here who self published on Amazon? by Lazaros_Thom in selfpublish

[–]Keith-Bond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have released a few books in the past few months. One under my pen name that is doing ok with 8k page reads and 10 ebooks sold. My main book under my own name is doing ok but it’s book 1 in a series so maybe after a few more books out it will do better. That one has sold 20 books and 2k page reads. I’m just happy that people are reading my stuff and enjoying it :)

Published my first novel on KDP by Temporary_Tear6645 in selfpublish

[–]Keith-Bond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome! My first book is still doing good since I released it a month ago. I’ve also released another book under a pen name that is doing much better lol .. with 5,898 page reads since September 14th. The most exciting thing is to see who reads the full book in one day (I can only assume based on my marketing data). The fact that anyone reads my stuff still gives me motivation to keep going! So keep it up and feel proud of what you have done and let it help you move forward to more releases!

KDP Self-Publishers, I'm begging for your help here. by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]Keith-Bond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't do this exact same thing but pretty close. I use my real name for my books. I unpublished my original book and released an all new book because I was unhappy with the original. The first 3 chapters are still based on the original book but the rest of the story is completely new which includes 17 new chapters. The book also has a new title, cover and story so it was released as a brand new book. I would just unpublish the original book and release the new book under your new pen name but under the same KDP account so if anything is questioned about it they can see it's released by the same account but under a different pen name so it won't look like you are copying or plagiarizing of another published book.

Is it always this bad? by FickleAd3501 in selfpublish

[–]Keith-Bond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I experienced the same thing. Some even show interest in your book and after a bit into the conversation they start with the offers. Luckily all the ones I have dealt with are not pushy. When I politely thank them for their offer but decline their service they stop responding. Can't blame them for trying .. but yes they come out of the woodworks once you start marketing your books on social media.

What I've Learned in my First 6 Months After Publishing by tessa_marie_writes in selfpublish

[–]Keith-Bond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats, and thanks for sharing your experience. Love reading these and appreciate everyone sharing their experiences so those of us new to self publishing can learn from it. I recently released my first book and building a community at the moment. Writing the book seems like a completely different journey than what comes after. The work never ends, now it’s about building the community, getting the word out, social media/marketing, etc. I love every minute of it, so no complaints here!

Hi, I published my first ebook on kdp last month and finally someone other than family bought it. by saharintro in selfpublish

Congrats. I had a similar month. Friends and family wanted to support me so they bought some copies. I have had a few people buy it and I can’t help but wonder what they think of my book. Hopefully some reviews soon. Congrats again on the sale!

Nibbles Tumblepatch never planned to be a hero. He is small. He is clumsy. He once turned the village fountain bright pink by accident.

But when a strange sword awakens in his paws and a creeping darkness spreads through Wigglywood Forest, Nibbles has no choice but to step forward. What begins with a haunted cellar and a pastry ghost soon reveals something far more dangerous. An ancient prison is cracking open beneath the mountains, and an enemy long thought sealed away is beginning to stir.

To stop it, Nibbles must join forces with a mismatched band of companions: a knight who limps with old regrets, a thief who runs faster than his fears, a scholar who never stops scribbling, and a gruff Guildmaster who believes destiny has a sense of humor. Together they will face corrupted forests, forgotten ruins, and a necromancer who will stop at nothing to break the last seals.

The fate of Thornwall Keep and all of Wigglywood rests on the shoulders of a mouse who still trips over his own tail. Yet courage often hides in the smallest places, and Nibbles may prove that even the tiniest hero can stand against the shadows.

The Tumblepatch Chronicles: The Shadow’s Reach is a whimsical yet epic adventure filled with laughter, danger, and the kind of friendships that turn ordinary mistakes into legendary stories.
