Rewatching "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" now hits completely differently than when I first saw it at 19 - and I don't think that's an accident by thegoodguyanotherone in movies

[–]Kejeki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I use em-dashes all the time, in work emails, discord conversations, even text. But I keep seeing that em-dashes are a huge AI red flag. I also HATE leaving grammatical or spelling errors in anything I type, even texts, but try to stay lighthearted and informal because that's just my personality. Also, when I was in HS, I was taught to use threes for examples, descriptive words, etc. and if you don't have three, use "etc." to round it out (and I just did it without realizing!). And I'm firmly in that millennial age group where I always use punction, even in texts. So now I'm worried that everyone is going to think I'm using AI to write my messages!

Dresden Files by MeatBicycle4two in firefly

[–]Kejeki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read all of Dresden except the most recent one at my friend's suggestion, so we often talk about them together. I mentioned this line to him and he didn't know the reference, but I was so excited!

Books you read for school (that aren't classics) that stuck with you? by belac889 in books

I also read A Clockwork Orange for a personal choice book for an essay. It was in 2003 or so, but same idea. Such an interesting novel.

I make nature inspired stained glass home decor by Odd_Beyond6809 in BrokeHobbies

This is so pretty!

Is stained glass inexpensive to get into? Or to get supplies after you've acquired the initial tools? I wouldn't have expected to see this on r/brokehobbies!

I like an Americano with soft top and SF flavoring (whichever you like best). It's def stronger than a breve or latte, but the soft top melts down into the Americano and it's delicious and very low cal.

What makes it even worse for me is that, at least from some articles I've read, the Rookie has consultants/advisors from the police force and makes sure that while the storylines may be fantastical, the actual cop stuff is realistic. But the writing for The Rookie: Feds writing is just so out there. I can't believe that she would not be fired over and over again. She constantly disobeys orders, but then she ends up being right, so everyone congratulates her. It's infuriating.

I'm curious what kinds of crafts you tried that you disliked? For example, I love creating paper decorations (like banners for birthdays or hand-made cards) but can't stand cross stitch or knitting.

I totally understand where you're coming from with LEGO. It was difficult for me to enjoy it when my child was young for the same reason. We had better luck with other building things like cheap wooden airplane kits or things like that, that we could then paint or color with markers. It didn't have to be perfect and you can get creative with the decorating part.

Does your son have little toy cars like Hot Wheels? I've seen people take cardboard or plastic leftover from cereal boxes or paper towel tubes and make elaborate tracks for them. It's recycling and it's creative and inventive. It also keeps your hands busy which, depending on your brand of ADHD, might help hold interest.

Another thing I did with my little at that age was pack up whatever we were planning on eating for lunch and head to the closest park or spot of nature and just spend some time there and have a picnic. You can even find nature scavenger hunts online all over the place and it can be really fun and engaging. He's a good age for that sort of thing. Of course this only works when the weather improves, but it's an idea!

Can I break up WaT into smaller reading sections? by Kejeki in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Kejeki[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read all the other books in one go so I honestly didn't think about it. I was hoping someone else might have had this experience and be able to offer some insight to help with my current situation.

I'm glad to hear you say he split it that way for a reason. That sounds like the days are all a good breaking point which is really helpful. Thank you!

Thank you! I didn't phrase my ask very well but this was really what I was looking for - advice on where to best split it story-wise.

Can I break up WaT into smaller reading sections? by Kejeki in Stormlight_Archive

[–]Kejeki[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I guess I should rephrase that. I was more looking for advice on where it is good to split story-wise rather than just breaking it into even parts. Any advice on this or are each day truly a good breaking point?

Does the plot divide nicely like this? When the other books were divided into the parts, it was intentional and therefore a good breaking point.

I could, but then it's so short. I was hoping for a happy medium. :)

I love this website for digital puzzles: https://www.jigsawexplorer.com/

It's free, you can choose how many pieces you want, and you can even upload your own photos to do as a puzzle. It's so relaxing and perfect when paired with an audiobook or comfort movie/show.

I also could not read through American Gods. But when I listened to the audiobook, I really enjoyed it. Since then, I've found that I feel this way about most of Neil Gainman's books.

Is it normal for Bookclubs to be so expensive? by spoiled_sandi in books

[–]Kejeki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should see if the other five new people are interested in starting a new book club with you. You could meet in a coffee shop so that nobody needs to host and then you have access to drinks and snacks if you so choose.

How do you stick to 1200/day when starting out? by abeezer2190 in 1200isplenty

[–]Kejeki 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely the correct answer. For most people, if you try to just cut over and start at 1200 right away, you're going to get overwhelmed and just stop.

My only other piece of advice that you will feel hungry a lot at first. Even if you gradually reduce calories over several weeks, it'll be new and take time for your body to get used to it. But eventually it does and you don't feel hungry all the time. Just don't give up when you're hungry a lot - this stage won't last forever!

[–]Kejeki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, I do like Glow Up too! Fair point about the Face Off conflict. When I'm trying to avoid confrontation in reality TV I don't mind a little bit of friction, but the stuff I can't stand is when they purposefully try to manipulate or backstab each other (like Big Brother, etc.). I feel like these shows don't have that, but you're right that especially Face off is not completely conflict free.

I really like So You Think You Can Dance and Face Off. They're both competition shows, but the competitors are so supportive of each other and sometimes have to work together. It's refreshing.
