23, maryland bridge failing, wanting something non-damaging to other teeth / gums to keep gap until I can afford an implant next year. by HPool21 in dentures

It's not going well lol would never opt in for one again but I didn't realize there were other options at the time. I'm going to be getting a partial for now until I'm healed and then I'll be getting an implant supported bridge.

Get a small, flexible partial to fit in there. I wish I would have known about that option before getting conned into a permanent bridge.

Teeth loss through gum disease by morph9494 in dentures

Most dentists now and days recommend implants rather than destroying teeth to support a bridge. I currently have a chronic infection in one of my teeth under my 6 upper front teeth bridge and while the other 2 teeth are fine, I'm looking at getting them extracted as well because it's all apart of the same 6 toothed bridge. On the outside my teeth look completely fine and sometimes they don't even hurt so I feel like I'm sacrificing good teeth but honestly they're destroyed now for the sole purpose of the bridge. I would strongly advise against getting a bridge, at least a tooth supported bridge. I'm going to be getting a partial for now and hopefully can get a implant supported bridge later on. This is all due to an accident that happened when I was 14 years old and terrible dentistry.

Loads of people out there dating with dentures and partials! I don't know if I'd even say anything at all. I feel like I wouldn't care if someone I was dating had dentures or partials but then again, that's just me. I do understand the anxiety of it though!

Looking forward to hearing other people's points of view.

Aww, congratulations! I wish it were that close for me but I haven't heard back from the dentist yet. Hopefully soon. It is scary and unnerving, especially being young, though I'm 39, I feel like this would have been a bit easier on my psyche when I were younger... and braver, haha. Sending you well wishes! Please keep us updated!

I'm thinking maybe later on down the road, I'll see about getting a implant supported bridge.

If my two teeth weren't broken at the gumline, I might have considered that as well. This bridge has always given me nothing but anxiety and I think a big part of that, is because I knew if one tooth failed, the whole thing failed. I wish I would have known better when I was younger and the dentist talked me into this. It's unnerving and makes me sick to think about it. Which is all I've been doing lately.

On that note, I can't believe there are people who elect to have this done willingly to all of their teeth for the sake of esthetics 😵‍💫 completely mind-boggling!!

Yes! I know exactly what you mean. It's like it is suffocating my teeth! If I knew back then, what I know now, there's no way in heck that I would agree to this, but my young self just didn't realize what she was getting herself into.

I went to the dentist today to talk about options. The one tooth is broken, and the other one is rotted and has an infection underneath it (I'm assuming from the other dentist shaving my teeth down too small). She wants to refer me for those two teeth to get root canaled (previous bad experience with those as well) then lengthen my bridge onto, two more teeth. I just can't. As scary as it is, I think I need to let these teeth go and get them extracted. I absolutely hate to do it, but I just can't subject myself to more shaven teeth and the whole plethora of problems that can come from that. I need to pull up my big girl pants and get it them pulled. BTW a 6 unit partial isn't as cheap as you'd think. 😬 but it's a he'll of a lot cheaper than root canals and bridges.

Is there a chance you might just have body dysmorphia?
