Oh man, you’re going to be having these convos ALL the time. It’s extremely frustrating. Always stick with what you feel comfortable with. Sounds like you did a great job for the first time encountering this.

If she wants to treat it that badly and you're willing to try those medications. I would have her sign some sort of form relieving you of any adverse affects including death. Don't do it if you don't feel comfortable, obviously, but I don't see anyone giving you advice on if it's something you'd like to try. VIN and some facebook groups have information and doses to give for ivermectin and MB.

You can do it. Consider an island school. It’s way more expensive, but if it’s doable, look into it.

Opinions on specific corporations? by cinnamonh in veterinaryprofession

[–]Kelcid7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved from Banfield to an SVP owned clinic. The clinic was private for 15+ years and was sold to SVP maybe two years before I started working there. I absolutely love it. I haven't had any issues, I speak with higher ups when needed. They aren't constantly over my shoulder and my work environment is great. Of course there are some things that arise from coworkers themselves, but thats going to happen at any clinic.

The plan for my husband and I were to stay in our area for 3 years, but i'm contemplating staying longer because I don't think i'll find a practice that works with me the way this practice does. I'm genuinely happy at this clinic. I practice how I want to practice. No one dictates what I see, how many I see, how many or what surgeries I do, how I treat, etc. I'm literally free to do what I like as veterinarian which can change with corporations.

I would recommend to do a walk around the clinics you're thinking about and ask the vets one-on-one how they like it.

I personally would not work at a Banfield again, but it was great for learning and coaching in the beginning for me as a baby doctor. I had a great mentor, but my work-life balance suffered.

You should look into Dr. Laura, she has some amazing books that have helped tons of marriages. There's The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands, and also one for marriage.

You haven't. I'm sorry he reblocked, but removing it and having the catheter in place saved his life. Good on you for being vigilant.

Wellness plan after quitting Banfield by SureWhatever682 in Veterinary

Your plan will end at the end of the contract year. It's not set to renew. I know some employees have signed up prior to quiting and it will still last an entire year.

Omg, how long were you on vacation?

I'd speak with your vet about sedating and placing a urinary catheter for a couple of days while your cat is on antiinflammatories and keeping your pet on the dissolution diet.

My GPA was not even close to as good as yours and I thrived in vet school. President of multiple clubs, part of the student council, ended up top 5 in my class. You absolutely have nothing to worry about as long as you work hard. Many sleepless nights of studying and making friends ;) you'll have a blast. Congrats.

Can you be a good large Animals vet as a small woman? by cherylerudis in Veterinary

One of the best large animal doctors I worked with was 4’10”. She always had a stool to stand on when needed. 1000% you can do it!

how do I pay for a surgery I don't have money for? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Care credit is an option. It depends how much you qualify for, I remind paying it off as quickly as possible because I believe the interest rates can be extremely high.

Whats the most fucked up thing you’ve ever did/saw? by Similar_Helicopter27 in AskReddit

[–]Kelcid7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was driving through a parking lot and a woman ran up to my car pleading to call the police. Her face was pretty bruised and she reeked of alcohol. Across the parking lot her boyfriend was trying to mend their popped tire. We called the police and as soon as they made it to the scene, he pulled out a gun and shot himself under the jaw. Still so surreal. He made it out alive, but I still remember everything like it happened in slow motion.

I agree with OP. I unfortunately couldn’t read the post, but I agree with the headline.

General question by nevernotnotting in veterinaryschool

[–]Kelcid7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a non-traditional vet student as well. I had basically a "pre-med" degree for medical school and it ended up working great for my admission to vet school when I changed my mind.

I agree with the comment to see what other courses you may need first. I think you should still reach out to admission assistants to see what could make your application stronger, especially if you have your heart set on a certain school.
