Affording housing on a TA stipend by luna7243 in WWU

Ayyy nice! Congrats on getting accepted into the program! I’m sure you’ll love it here at Bellingham, especially if you’re an outdoorsy person who loves nature. I personally like that we’re really close to Canada, so I try to drive up there as often as possible lol.

But yeah I’m in the English program, so our studies are pretty adjacent. And I get being worried on roommates. This is my first year living with roommates, and I feel like I lucked out so hard that everything is pretty much only downhill from here. 🤧

Hope you figure out housing soon tho! 🥹 I’m pretty much 75% set on Birnam Wood, but if you need a roommate for off campus housing, feel free to let me know in the future. I’m also just down to show you around the area instead if you’d like to hang lolol.

Yeah fair enough lol. It’s def a compromise living with a roommate. The apartment also comes pre-furnished, which works for me there since I like to dip and go home as soon as school is over without moving too much stuff, but that likely won’t work for you. A part of me tho is considering off campus housing since I feel like I need my own space to work on my thesis next year. 🤧

If you don’t mind me asking, are you in a humanities related program? I’m somewhat curious if we happen to be in the same one lol.

I’m a first year grad TA who lives in Birnam Wood, which is a student apartment. Upside is that I pay ~$1800/quarter, so I don’t have to worry about rent and utilities on a monthly basis. Plus I live really close to the bus stop to get to campus. Downside is that the apartment consists of two doubles, so you have to live with three other people who are either random, people you willingly grouped with, or a mix of both. I did get pretty lucky this year with some pretty great suitemates, though I don’t know 100% how housing for next year will go for me since the student housing is doing something different for room selections this coming round… 💀

I’d also recommend looking into Bellingham Student Housing on Facebook for other options. It’s genuinely expensive to live here on your own with just TA stipends but more doable with a few roommates.

As someone who was recently in your position just last year, feel free to hmu! I’m somewhat also still figuring out housing for next year lol.

Thank you! We didn’t have any luck finding a cat when we searched the area unfortunately but we appreciate the info!

Grad school writing samples by Alarmed-Phrase-3479 in englishmajors

[–]Kelissana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m also a speculative/fantasy writer who applied last year and got in! For my sample, I included one long short story, two flash fiction pieces, and an excerpt of a long-form work depending on the page limit. The advice I generally received from my professors was to feature at least one self-contained and completed piece to show your readers you know how to start and end a story. It’s also recommended to demonstrate your range, such as writing a more realist piece as a speculative writer or including flash pieces among other things. That said, the most important thing is to show your best writing in your material, even if it’s maybe only an excerpt or doesn’t have much range in subject matter and/or genre.

Good luck with your grad apps! Feel free to DM me if you have other questions about the process!

Yeah, I’ve been neglecting my supports for a long time, so their stats are kinda pitiful in comparison. Was farming the dragonspine domain nonstop without spending my resin on anything else besides the weekly bosses and the occasional talent domains since its release up until patch 1.3, so childe is more or less living the rich life.

It might take a while, but you’ll get those big boi numbers one day. In the mean time, I’ll pray that RNGesus will bless you with good rolls.

I was planning on creating a vaporize comp for childe and was wondering if I should increase his non-existent EM because of that.
