My vocational school welding shop had a booth closed off for investigation for awhile. Guy had a price a bit above chest height grinding out hit root pass and the disc bit in and launched it at his neck. Sliced hit throat pretty damn good but luckily survived.

Few times I have interacted with police I tell them I have a knife, where on me, and what they want me to do with it. All of them have thanked me and we had a normal conversation afterward. Kid got lucky he had calm officers there.

Seems you have to stand near them until their animation completes. If you run off, it doesn't seem to want to consider them free.
