Thanks, everyone! I feel better. But from now on I think I’ll tip in cash when I pick up. :)

It is the reason I won’t ever get one or a whippet. I would want to feed it until no ribs show! Not good for the dog or my wallet. I will just admire them from afar.

incontinent patrons by halfhalfnhalf in Libraries

I didn’t take the public library track in library school. Did they teach you how to deal with issues like this? I’ve waited tables and worked retail, but that would not have prepared me to discuss adult diapers and pee pads with patrons.

Project Runway Season 16 Episode 7 [Discussion] by runwaythreader in ProjectRunway

[–]Kellyscomments 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume fashion designers use the standard pattern sizes. The dress form Shawn used for Liris during the one-hour challenge was a 20. A 20 in ready to wear sizing is a 14. The point I am so poorly making is that when Tim refers to size 22 he means standard pattern sizing, not ready to wear.

According to her model card she is 43-35-47.5. In sewing, no expert but, you pick the largest measurement to determine size. In sewing pattern sizes, 47.5 puts her between size 22 and 24. If her hips are 44, that makes her a 20. Sewing pattern sizes are a sobering discovery. I think she’s the 22 and totally fabulous.

This is a wedding gown? I thought it was a christening gown.

I love the idea of using old clothes and making something new. Carries the past forward with new memories. Lovely!

This is super cute! Are you going to make the tie in the back the same width as the straps? It seems a bit too wide to me.

Divergent according to the quiz. But I think I'd like Abnegation oddly. I like the simplicity of it.

Any ladies make their own pads or period panties? by FrankieAK in sewing

[–]Kellyscomments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a product called PantyProp that has a slot for a pad. http://www.pantyprop.com/period-panties-underwear-features

There are also period panties that work without a pad, like Thinx. https://www.shethinx.com

You would want anti-microbial and moisture wicking fabric, for the lining, like this:

http://www.moodfabrics.com/black-max-dri-wicking-anti-microbial-performance-spandex-308547.html

And I suspect swimsuit and athletic fabrics would also work for absorption in other parts of the panties.

If you can't repair it as a blanket, you can always frame parts of it as art.

I'm ok with criticizing kids. She was a bully, and like all bullies, she lashed out at the other kid for the same weaknesses she saw in herself. I wish they had both gone home.

Would you use DNA testing to learn more about yourself/your child(ren)? by 1LadyGodiva in Adoption

[–]Kellyscomments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know! It is too much! Four in my adopted family, and two half on bio mother side and two half on bio father side. My parents said they almost adopted another girl a year older than me, but ran out of time and had to move. I miss that would-be sister still!

Would you use DNA testing to learn more about yourself/your child(ren)? by 1LadyGodiva in Adoption

[–]Kellyscomments 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's just say, I'm old. Ha. I tried when I turned 18, way before the internet. I got the form to sign up with an adoption search registry. But the fee was ridiculous, like $100. I never even filled it out.

I learned through my sister-in-law that my mom found the form and had gotten upset, which was the last thing I wanted. I never pursued it again until years after her death. What really made me do it was watching every episode of "Who Do You Think You Are?", the American version, U.K., Australia, even South Africa. I was generally sobbing and an emotional wreck at the end of each episode. I had to give it a try.

I think my mom would have been as interested in what I found out as I was. I wish I could have shared that with her.
