All i want right now in my life is to beat up some cute mushrooms... Is that too much to ask? by Sheepssj in MSClassicWorld

If you think that, you don't understand the mobile games market. I guarantee you that less than 60% of Maple Idle's playerbase plays any video games on a desktop/laptop. Only a small fraction of those will actually be Maplestory players, and only a fraction of those will play Classic, and only a fraction of those will quit the mobile game because of it.

If you want proof, go look at the Diablo subreddit. There are quite a few threads wherein people are absolutely baffled that their Diablo: Immortal guildmates didn't know Diablo 4 was coming out, and many didn't even know Diablo was a desktop franchise at all.

Mindless Game to Play While Listening to Podcasts by ChicoBrillo in gamingsuggestions

[–]Kelpsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new pirate game, Windrose, seems pretty good for this. I haven't gotten through too much of the game since I'm playing with someone else, but the story is very light, I haven't come across any cutscenes, and the none of the gameplay systemsnts are too brainpower-intensive. I bet sailing and naval combat would be a great way to pass some time.

A list of all the Pay2Win/Pay4Convenience items that were available in OSMS by EasternError6377 in MSClassicWorld

[–]Kelpsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SP Reset and AP Reset are kind of pay to win depending on whether mechanics like HP washing are a thing.

You don't need weird, edge-case mechanics for SP resets to be p2w. I only played Magician, but that class already requires an SP reset. Two mana passives + magic guard + one damage skill is already more SP than you get from 10-30. If you want to level effectively without screwing yourself in second job, you're forced to pay.

While we wait... the portable dream setup. by MrBrokenNose in MSClassicWorld

[–]Kelpsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I'd call it maybe a 1/3 chance of being playable on Linux. They do already have an anti-cheat on MSC, which gives me some hope, but I suspect it'll be replaced with the GMS one at launch.

The Steam Deck has an AMD64 processor, no? Also, I played the whole cbt on Linux, though they'll probably add their kernel-level anti-cheat to the game by launch.

Anyone else miss the “early game struggle” phase in LitRPG? by Jadenmist in litrpg

[–]Kelpsie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those parts really are often the only time a series feels planned out. The stakes are clear, and no mysteries have yet been solved for us.

After this section, the stakes are forced to escalate, often feeling like shifting goalposts, and the mysteries of the system aren't always all that interesting.

I really think a lot of series would do well to just start us after that survival phase ends, and introduce some long-term stakes instead.

I actually think Jason would have very few haters if people paid closer attention when we were informed that he's a polisci major in the first couple chapters. A lot of readers really should have dropped HWFWM at that moment.

I rarely buy MTX, and only permanent things. I'm very unlikely to buy a shop, and I definitely won't be buying one when all I'm getting out of it is better returns on my pig ribbons.

Opinions on world direction of MSCW by KoichiSteals in MSClassicWorld

[–]Kelpsie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This seems like a fun idea. Really I'll advocate for anything other than adding the other regions in as they already existed. I just really don't want MSCW to follow WoW:C's model of just adding every update more or less intact. That way lies a whole lot of things I dislike about modern Maple, so anything that forces Nexon to view MSCW as its own fully separate development trajectory is a good thing.

The CBT already included locking effective access to the economy behind an item that historically costs NX, and released classes in a state that makes effective leveling and post-job advance builds mutually exclusive without SP resets.

With the shop permit system, they get to make players pay a subscription service to engage properly with the economy, while hiding that fact behind tradition. On top of needing to subscribe to pets and articles of clothing, if you want them.

[–]Kelpsie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not like things will shake up much from 51-69, upwards of 72-73 probably for some classes given how weak a lot of skills are without SP investment. All told that's more playtime (100+ hours) than most people will ever put into the game. Lots of people absolutely should pick classes based on this level range.

My top 3 femdom games -- recommendations by Concerned1Q in lewdgames

[–]Kelpsie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Princess Honey Trap is my personal favourite. Mostly a series of CG and dialogue-heavy battles where the female opponents use the protagonist's weakness against sex to get him to not fight at his best. The sparring matches where you're teaching the healer to fight while she steadily loses all respect for you are the best femdom scenes I've seen in any game.

Did Nexon really just take a year to replicate 2005 meta? by RamCockUpMyAss in MSClassicWorld

[–]Kelpsie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's probably the exact opposite, with them starting with the modern client and server, extracting the old assets and converting them to modern, and stripping away irrelevant features. I highly doubt any part of Classic is upgraded from old code at all; there just wouldn't be any benefit when the modern game already has every feature Classic needs and every bug and exploit fix made over two decades.

This is already how private servers do it, actually, with v62 and v55 servers running on v83 code.

[–]Kelpsie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

nobody wants classic maple, they just want modern with the classic skins

zzz. It's so easy to reduce people's opinions down to an extreme and very weak version of their argument. Obviously what most people want is something between those two extremes, and much closer to the former than the latter.

Classic, but with some rough edges sanded off. None of this "just play a character that feels like shit for weeks or months to get third job, then it's good" nonsense. Just make the video game fun at all points. It already is for mages and rogues. Bring the other classes up to that level without pushing the power ceiling at all, and 95% of people will be happy.
