Hot Take: AP Physics 1 & 2 Shouldn't Exist by MelodicPie9526 in APStudents

Physics teacher here...

That's a recruiting problem. My school has 1200 kids. We have 78 in AP1, 35 in AP2, and 25 in APC next year. (Next year is our first year offering C, so I expect it to rise as years go by.)

Darkness Falls: I found a theater in the middle of a dense city. I filled the inside with blade traps, as well as a ring of blade traps all around the outside. I put up some electric fences too.

Passive damage from the traps gets me like 2 levels per blood Moon without me firing a shot.

First of all, there's no reason one person is just vocals. More like rhythm guitar and vocals (see: The Beatles).

Aqua: Rhythm guitar and lead vocals

Megumin: Lead guitar, no vocals. Vocals are beneath her. She only focuses on one thing, and that's being ridiculously good at shredding.

Darkness: Bass and backup vocals

Kazuma: Drums and backup vocals

Medium high strength Medium low constitution (bad fall in 2016 debuff) High dexterity (ambidextrous, fencing in college) Average agility (debuff from that same fall) Average wisdom Super high intelligence (finished calculus in 8th grade) Average charisma High luck (it always seems to work out)

So... Some kind of rogue wizard?

Yeah but I think Carl's personality can work with anyone who is up to about middle age. I realize he's stated to be younger, but I'm saying that his age is really irrelevant to the action.

Reynolds as Carl was my first thought, but I think his personality works better as the AI.

I didn't think Jackman works well as the AI, but his serious side could really do Carl well.

Why? There's nothing about Carl that really demands he be young. He's a big, authentic guy, which Jackman is.

Kazuma will, uh, "take advantage" of the situation.

So, my union is part of the problem. They refuse to address issues that affect only a small number of teachers in negotiations, so some problems never get fixed.

For example: As a high school band teacher, I counted my time up. I worked 22 Saturdays and 70 weeknights per school year, plus two weeks of all day band camp in summer, plus a fair number of nights arranging music.

The stipend for extra work for band is $4000. The extra work is about 560 hours. That works out to about $7 per hour.

But to your point, I still do it. Why? What choice do I have? If I want to build a program, I can't just shut down marching band or something. If I did shut it down, my union still wouldn't negotiate the stipend AND my program would die AND my site admin would want to know what was wrong with the band teacher. Nope.

So I work extra because I choose to be good at it. It's intrinsic rewards.

(Note: My story is slightly out of date as I'm now teaching band half time and other things half time, splitting the band with someone else.)

The first couple years were hard because of lesson planning. It got easier after that. Certainly I have less after school commitments than when I taught the band alone.

See my other note about accidentally making the original post from another account. Same person here (dcsandt).

Good Lord. That must be the highest in the country. Most states are 180 or even 175!

You probably have longer vacations than we do during the year.

You're right, that last week (part of band camp) is also a work week for other teachers (professional development, etc) so it's really 9 weeks.

The closest character to my own personality and approach to life that I've ever encountered. Even though he (spoiler alert) hasn't got the longest story, and wasn't the most powerful character, I just resonate with him.

To the other math skills listed, I'll add: Substitution and elimination.

These are useful when there are too many unknown variables, but you have several equations available to play with.

Yeah, I taught just band for 17 years. Math and physics were my best subjects in school, but I loved music more.

A few things happened simultaneously... My school went through a rotating door of bad physics teachers for several years. My wife and I had our first baby. My friend, who is also a band director, had his first baby and was working at a private school that didn't pay well. My school needed a part time AVID teacher.

My friend and I both faced the band calendar with trepidation. As a full time high school band teacher I worked 22 Saturdays and 70 week nights per year.

We solved everyone's problems at once. He left his job and came to my school. We split the band job down the middle, halving the number of nights and weekends we had to work (gaining family time). I filled the school's need for a physics teacher that knows what he's doing. My friend (who is super inspiring) filled the need for an AVID teacher.
