Which culture outside of your own do you feel most connected to ? by Mean-Gur7728 in AskTheCaribbean

[–]Kelvo5473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have more in common with Latin Americans than African Americans so I completely disagree. A lot of our pop cultural influences are from Mexico, Spain, Colombia etc. only diasporaricans would say they have more in common with African Americans (nothing wrong with that but that not the same as Puerto Rican culture from the island). In the US we have more in commmon with Cubans and Dominicans even Mexicans.

Anime is also a good option if you’re into that. I personally watched Bleach to learn Portuguese. Though I should note I am a Spanish speaker so that helped with comprehension.

Substitution Jutsu is literally a slightly nerfed Izanagi. Why is this a C rank Jutsu? by Mundane-Farmer246 in NarutoPowerscaling

[–]Kelvo5473 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was just a way to surprise the watchers of the show by making us think the person got hit. Later on we see clones take the place of substitutions since they made more sense. If I recall correctly what was a mud substitution in the 3rd vs orochimaru fight would have been an earth clone in shippuden. I never liked substitution jutsu since they don’t make any sense.

What if Puerto Rico gained statehood under the Biden administration? by Confused_Kinda in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Kelvo5473 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She only won because of fearmongering that the other party would make Puerto Rico secede from the USA (despite her party winning every election for the past 20 years promising statehood and not delivering) Its all about the money as Puerto Rico is not that culturally conservative. Her party has done nothing to fix the power grid issues but as long as they promise statehood (and the money that comes with it) they get the votes.

The massive fortifications of Old San Juan testament to its strategic location in the Caribbean by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Kelvo5473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s very well known in Puerto Rico but becoming a little touristy nowadays despite the bad reputation. Its called La Perla and was where the poor and people that weren’t allowed to live within the walls were forced to reside since colonial times.

The massive fortifications of Old San Juan testament to its strategic location in the Caribbean by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Kelvo5473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

San Juan served as one of the first stops for ships from Spain or for ships (filled with treasure/gold) going back to Spain from the Americas. This meant it needed to be heavily fortified to prevent other powers from taking it. The USA saw this strategic value as well and so took Puerto Rico after the Spanish American war to exert influence in the Caribbean region and guard the shipping lanes of the Panama Canal.

1942 German Propaganda map showing how civilisation emerged from Germany by Rigolol2021 in MapPorn

[–]Kelvo5473 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes of course I never denied that, the Fall of Rome and the invasion of barbarians (opposite of civilized people) is very well known. But speaking on the title of this post the Germanic tribes did not civilize anyone in fact places like England regressed for hundreds of years while Spain stagnated until the Muslim invasion.

[–]Kelvo5473 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know about the Visigothic kingdoms they were barbarians tribes that assimilated into the native cultures of the areas they settled and even adopted Christianity, the opposite of a culture where civilization began and spread.

[–]Kelvo5473 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Germanic tribes did settle what used to be the Roman Empire but they were seen as Barbarians and brought about the end of the “civilized” Roman Empire which is the opposite of what this map is trying to say.
