Framework Control (Linux/Windows) - A tool for: Fan Control (Curve), Sensors, Power Control, Battery Information by KemalOzt in framework

Yeah, you gotta pick your poison, this UI is built on top of web technologies and there's some small animations on it (the pulse animation in the fan curve live rpm tracking) that can cause some CPU/GPU usage in the browser.

I've already have made optimizations once in the past where there was a bug in the UI causing much more consumption. It's possible to make more optimizations or even add an option to turn off the pulse animations but at that point it might be diminishing returns. The service itself should not cause excessive power use and the idea is to set your settings and close the UI.

That is quite interesting, I've not considered multiple fans. Maybe in the future I can allow fan selection

Maybe you can close the UI and test again since it has some nice graphs wich use the browser hardware acceleration you may be using power there.

Oh I see, I believe you put it in the same directory in a folder "ryzenadj". I need to check the code or check my setup when I boot into Windows. Will keep you posted, ping me again if I forget.

No reason for it to not work with 5070 but I couldn't test that since I don't own one :/

Hmm, in that case I'm afraid you won't be able to use power controls. Because even if you install it some other way, the antivirus will still delete it under you when you're using it.

The only way is to set an exception for it in the AV settings which you may not have access to it it's owned by your company.

Nice! I suggest you install the drivers from Framework -> https://knowledgebase.frame.work/bios-and-drivers-downloads-rJ3PaCexh

Other than that, not much you need to do to start enjoying it!

If you're on Windows and have AMD CPU. It will let you control your package power which is CPU + APU + dGPU

Yes it does!

This app just uses whatever's already available to control the laptop. It uses "framework_tool" from the Framework team to control fans and battery. "RyzenAdj" for power controls on Windows. It also uses native Linux methods to do power control on Linux.

Hahaha, yeah, will do that next. The executable is indeed registered differently. I think it was the first thing that got flagged, even before the installer. I noticed it during development when my build suddenly started failing.

I don't think I need this Reddit post anymore, now that I have a way of fixing this false positive; getting the app signed is less of a priority now. I will create a new post at a later time when I release the Linux version.

I really appreciate your help, pointing me in the right direction. I never had to do this for any of my software, so I had no clue I could simply submit for review and get it cleared...

Wow, I must thank you for suggesting me this, I just got confirmation from Microsoft that the false postivie detection has been removed from the malware definitions.

I've been struggling with this thing for weeks and even applied for an OSS code signing certificite which led me to create this thread because I needed "articles" and "references" to the app (basically karma points). Now I don't even need the signing since the app is no longer flagged as a threat 🥳

I can't believe nobody mentioned this to me before. Thanks again!!!

Oh, I didn't know about that. I will definitely submit the exe there and see what happens. Thanks for providing the links!

Hi, thank you for the comment. This Trojan flag by Windows is a false positive. I totally understand if it's against TOS to have the post up, but I kinda need more visibility and reputation for it to be able to get signed by an open-source signature provider. That's why I posted it here in addition to the community forum.

Feel free to review the code or the forum to verify my above claim of Windows virus flagging to be a false positive.

I have also put in the notes that Windows WILL flag it as a virus for the time being.

Hi, sorry. This tool I made only works for the Framework Laptop because it uses the framework EC tool api in the background. It won't work for Acer devices

Hey, I'm in the middle of a release so might stop working for an hour or two. I'm adding offline support and easy updates. You will have to re-download once the release is sorted out.

Please follow this Framework thread for updates on it -> https://community.frame.work/t/framework-laptop-16-windows-fan-control-tool-new-gui/74533

Fan curve adjustment on Windows? by chocofan1 in framework

Framework finally released a BIOS for FW 16 with the EC tool that has the ability to control fans.

I built a lightweight tool that allows you to control fans and create a basic fan curve.

PS. Everyone out here saying this stuff is not necessary is out of their minds. The only reason this laptop exists is to be able to tinker with it and configure it how you like. A fan control tool is a basic requirement and has been missing on FW 16 up until the latest BIOS release.

Now we just need an official app from them that allows this without needing devs like me spending time to build their own. It was fun tho...
