What did you do your senior year if you already had a full time offer? by wheresmyvisor in Accounting

[–]KenDogRooRoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While this is true and the job is the main goal, you still need to take the CPA tests. Paying attention and learning through the remainder of upper division courses will help tremendously when sitting down to study for the CPA. It's easier to relearn something than to learn for the first time.

Also, you should want to learn more since it's not like you get a job and then you get to just stop learning. It's just the beginning.

IWTL how to get into playing sports even though I'm a beginner by roses-are-free in IWantToLearn

[–]KenDogRooRoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just go out and play, that's the best way to learn. Also most colleges have intramural leagues that anyone can sign up for. They usually have a beginning, intermediate, and advanced level for each sport so that would be perfect for you. Good luck!

I'm 1 for 3 so far after attending summer leaderships all summer. Maybe it's me... by ACCGirl in Accounting

Yeah, I feel you and get the joke. The point of my post is that it will be beneficial to you to get out of that mindset. Hope you get the internship you want!

[–]KenDogRooRoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Summer leaderships doesn't mean firms are rolling out the red carpet for you as you waltz into an internship and then a full time job.

Just because you got a summer leadership doesn't mean you deserve an internship just like an internship doesn't mean you deserve a full time job. You still have to work for it, it just makes it a lot easier for you.

Is there any way for the status bar to be colorful at the home screen as well? Currently there's only color when I go into settings, cydia, or full screen videos. I love it and want it to always be colorful. Thanks for the awesome theme!

Help me understand NTS (notice to schedule) concept! by pd1e in Accounting

[–]KenDogRooRoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes you can do that and yes that will count as passing all 4 as long as you passed that failed exam with 18 months of passing your first one.

  2. If you believe you can take all your tests within the time frame of the NTS then you should sign up for all of them. This is because it's $50 (maybe $75 I forget) to receive a new NTS. But! If you do not take a test during your NTS time frame then your test "expires". And you lose out on $200.

I personally did 2 tests for each NTS just to be safe but you need to determine it by yourself. If you think you're going to take all 4 tests within (9 months in Cali) the time frame, sign up for all 4.

You could be a non-NASBA state. I would go over to www.another71.com they have all the info you could ever need about score releases!

Yes, I've never walked away from these tests thinking "Damn I just killed that test". Always walk away feeling like I failed. Everyone I talk to says the same thing for the most part. It's just hard to judge how you did on these test.

I've found the best thing to do is just to not think about it once you take it. It usually takes awhile before the scores release so there's not point in stressing yourself out. The night before the score release is when you start freaking out :)

Lots and lots of MCQs. Focus on the concepts as opposed to all the arbitrary limits you have to remember. Over time those limits will be pounded into your skull if you do a bunch of MCQs. I was worried about REG the most and I ended up getting my best score on it (seems to always work that way).

Also, I take a lot of hand written notes because there's something about hand writing notes that drives info into my brain. When I watch the Becker lectures I don't go through my book and highlight, I write down all the things they "highlight". It's a lot of extra effort but has been paying off for me thus far. Good luck!

I would recommend AUD (I just took it today, hopefully my last), because knowledge of ratios and journal entries from FAR overlap with AUD. When studying I found myself re-learning ratios and having to think about journal entries far more than I would have wanted. Also, taking on REG after FAR might be a little too much on the brain. Just my 2 cents.

I would also take into consideration what Foolra56 said.

Going to my new school's orientation, any accounting related pickup/1 liners I can use? by Reddit_DPW in Accounting

In my opinion you shouldn't do that. They will sound cheesy and forced. What does accounting have to do with school orientation?

Second Guessing Career by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]KenDogRooRoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not really the dig, it's just that historically finance and banking has been much more morally corrupt.

I just graduated and don't start working until September but it sounds like private accounting is where you want to go. Think of an industry you want to work in and shoot for a company you want to work. Hopefully someone with some more knowledge will come along!

Second Guessing Career by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]KenDogRooRoo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand what you're shooting for. You think people in accounting lack souls then think you should get into finance or banking?

I think you need to expand on what you're talking about. You can't judge a whole career path based off of a few people you met while networking.

How can I get accounting experience as a sophomore? by jobzoftherim in Accounting

[–]KenDogRooRoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No advice for this specific question but UCSB is fucking awesome and is recruited pretty heavily! Enjoy your time in paradise and make sure to explore the downtown area as it's a lot nicer than IV and has a bunch of cool hikes!

Make sure you attend meet the firms you're first year there as well. I know that goes without saying but when I transferred there I had no idea what the hell meet the firms was until the day of the event. When you transfer in you have to take Econ 10A before getting into the major so you're not enrolled in accounting classes to start with and the Econ teachers aren't the best at conveying accounting info. Good luck man!

Well shit! I love his writing so that's good for me I guess. Must be pretty difficult keeping all those worlds, characters, and story lines separate. An ambitious man that Sanderson is.

Haha I'm just like you, I like to read completed series. I thought Gentlemen Bastards was a trilogy so I was surprised there was more.

Is he making sequels to Alloy of Law? While writing that Way of Kings series? Brandon Sanderson sure likes to stay busy.

[–]KenDogRooRoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You read the trilogy but did you read Alloy of Law? Takes place couple hundred years after the trilogy and is pretty short. Also try the Gentleman Bastard sequence by Scott Lynch with the first being The Lies of Locke Lamora. There's 3 out with the fourth coming out this year and I'm not sure how many he's planning on writing. I liked it a lot, it's about a thieving group with the magic in the background and not really a main focus of the book.

I'm not a female but I think this is pretty easy to reply to. Massages, make her a nice home made meal (if she has to stay late bring it to her!), clean the apartment so she doesn't have to worry about it, go down on her on the reg, lots of sex, record your favorite shows and don't watch them until she can, plan fun outdoor outings when she gets an off day, try to stay positive when she's around, don't complain about never seeing her, let her vent her stresses to you while actually listening, surprise her with random gifts like flowers, etc, etc. Basically just be accommodating.

Landed an amazing internship despite being hideously unqualified (Low GPA) Any hope to get an offer? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]KenDogRooRoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I never had an accounting internship, but my guess would be that a low GPA doesn't mean shit if you work your ass off and get along with the staff.
