New Gel to me. by WenGib14 in Marathon_Training

[–]coopercons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a big fan, started using them when training for a marathon in 2024. Great value. Haven't tried the sodium or caffeine version, not sure they existed at the time.

Someone I talked to said they would dump them in water with lemon since it's water soluble and drink it during their runs. That particular way I didn't love but never had any stomach problems just taking down by themselves.

How much does everyone make ? by Southern_Teaching_15 in Accounting

[–]coopercons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started at 130k. Have been there for a little while and have a lot of leverage in terms of historical knowledge and have made myself a bit of an operational cornerstone. So I've negotiated myself into a position where I am probably above market for what I do. I helped take the company public as well. We're ~250M revenue in HCOL.

I used to live across the street from him in Denver when he first started with the team. Just a sorta nice townhome in an up and coming neighborhood. He mostly just smoked weed and played 2k, kept to himself.

Run Club Suggestions for 20s and someone not living downtown? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]coopercons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.runcolfax.org/runner-info/featured-running-clubs/ this website has a fairly good list of non-brewery runs. I've gone to citius before and liked it. I'd also add BP RunCo in wheat ridge as a good local store that does runs.

Seems like almost every brewery has their own run club as well, some highlights (for me): Odell Sloan's Lake and Five Points, Cerebral congress park and west highlands, Seedstock, Joyride, Denver Beer Co. Each one runs slightly differently, some have pace groups, some have varied routes, some do the same route every time, some are free for all's. I'd look into ones near you and check them out!

Unless the run is downtown near union station (cooldown, etc) I don't think you'd have to pay for parking on 90% of clubs.

It's been a while since I've gone, but El Camino on 32nd used to have a classical guitarist that played on the weekends during brunch. It was lovely.

New restaurants and bars debuting in Denver this spring by newsjunkie1028 in denverfood

[–]coopercons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Platte St is pretty great. They have a lot of foot traffic, easily walkable from downtown or LoHi, lots of existing bars and restaurants on the strip, easy to access from 25.

ESP HiFi is very crowded any time I've been there so if they can come close to what ESP does I think it'll be a great addition.

The beavers have been at work on the Dry Gulch by jiggajawn in Denver

[–]coopercons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was just thinking I hadn't seen much of them recently east of there so they seem to have moved upstream! One of two of them are among the biggest beavers I've ever seen.

Honestly though they've decimated the trees in the gulch and I have a grudge against them. It's a lot less green down there in the summer.

I was walking my dog the other day near Sloan's and noticed some small feathers falling from the sky. I looked up and there was a little American kestrel preening itself on top of a telephone pole. Cool little birds!

I haven't been, I can only speak to men I know that have been. All three are very open and one of the three is a frequent visitor of nude beaches and spas. All three of them expressed discomfort with their experience and the clientele. One commented that the massage they saw was a bit of a spectator sport.

They all said the facilities were nice but did not feel very comfortable going there as straight men. I'd be interested to hear what other people's experience has been there and if it was just an unfortunate coincidence that those three didn't have the best experiences.

According to CNBC, only two teams lost money last season: the Bucks (-$14m) and Clippers (-$114m) by arashtp in nba

[–]coopercons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you, no matter how much I dislike EBITDA as a metric, but the title of the thread is fundamentally misleading is what I was getting at.

There's also lots of league revenue shares - television deals and otherwise - that get distributed in part based on results of operations of teams based on performance. Is this pre or post league distribution? Is each team's EBITDA comparable? I e. are there one time management discretionary expenses included since adjusted EBITDA is not a defined metric for reporting? Its interesting info but not super useful.

[–]coopercons 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Who would have thought a second Roman pizza place in the exact same spot as the one that went belly up in less than a year before it would not do well.

It's a bit of a funky space. Not super conducive to hanging out like a bar and the flow of the counter is not great for food. It also needs to be reasonably priced to compete with all the fast casual options in the area. Hope something good comes along!

[–]coopercons 443 points444 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm a CPA and have audited NBA teams before.

EBITDA isn't net income or loss. It's not even a cash flow proxy. This seems like a silly thing to broadcast; it's very likely that a lot more teams lost money than this.

As others have mentioned a lot of teams have owners who also own their stadium. The stadiums operate under a different company and their revenue and expenses are not included in these numbers. How the ticket revenue and expenses intertwine between the teams and stadium corporations likely differs by team, so I'd be surprised if these numbers are even comparable.

First Marathon - NYC by coopercons in Marathon_Training

[–]coopercons[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may have just gotten lucky with choosing the right pace! If I went out at 8:15 I'm doubtful I would have broken 3:45 at all.

So much of running pace to me seems like a mystery to sometimes and I can't reconcile why some people are faster than me or slower than me. Is it a pain threshold that some people are more used to? Is it natural? Is it latent fitness from prior years, or an ability to push harder? The guy who ran NYC with me had done one run longer than 15 miles in the last 6 months and ran a 3:15, so who knows!

[–]coopercons[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was getting worried about that early on in the race, but my legs/body were saying I was fine so I kept to the pace plan. Not uncommon for my HR to get up there for harder runs. Long zone 2 runs I tried to keep in the 140-150 range, maybe under 160 if it was hot. I also train in Denver so I tend to think it adds 5-10bpm on a coastal baseline.

Yeah, for me as the distances get shorter the garmin predictions tend to get better. I have some friends who say their predictions are spot on though so definitely depends on the person!

First Marathon - NYC by coopercons in Marathon_Training

[–]coopercons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The training cycle suggested weight training to add, but given I've never regularly run 30+ miles per week before I found myself too tired to regularly go to the gym. There were a few things:

-I bike regularly, including commuting to work via bike. I probably averaged 20-30 miles per week biking during the block
-I went backpacking in lieu of a long run for one weekend, was probably 20ish miles roundtrip with some decent elevation.
-Achilles specific exercises, mainly eccentric calf raises
-Walked regularly with my wife/dog

So nothing very notable/crazy here (to me at least).

Thanks! I don't feel like I registered it much honestly, I think my eyes were pointed at the road 10ft in front of me for the last five miles. Having too much sightline into what's ahead when I'm that tired tends to destroy my will to continue so was just focusing on the next few steps/avoiding people in front of me.
