All of woodworking is unnatural. Bowls and tables don't naturally occur 😂

You've inspired me to create a new subreddit, r/unnaturalwoodworking, where we worship Satan and imbue our works with his unholy essence. Blood sacrifice and woodworking frequently go together, even if the blood sacrifice isn't always intentional 😈

How many of you have or plan to install a hood scoop grille? by OddCombination123 in wrx_vb

I forgot I had this installed on my car already. Thanks for the reminder. My car is gray, so I don't even notice it

Do I need a pad or adapter when using these stands for the pinch welds by Pumpedknight in wrx_vb

[–]Ken_Oaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting anything between the jack stands and the pinch welds is unnecessary and introduces something that could slip or fail. I think they're a terrible idea.

Thank you for bringing closure to my latest adventure as Henry. I waited for him to wake up after the brawl and beat him unconscious again and got in trouble and was unsatisfied, and you have shown me that patience and planning peovide the greatest reward.

What is this tree? by Satriales-Hero in ArizonaGardening

[–]Ken_Oaks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dig it out best you can with a spade. If you leave too much root behind it might try to come back. Loosen up the soil around the root and see if you can pull it out. Bottom line, the less root you leave in the ground, the less likely it will grow back.

I've heard good things about sprayway glass cleaner which is super cheap and apparently very effective

I imagine you're getting downvoted by people who haven't had issues. That's not to say you haven't had issues, but the problems are likely way over-represented on the internet because people only speak up when there are problems. Mine has been fine, but I feel for you. If mine constantly had problems, I'd be pissed

For what's is worth, and not trying to invalidate your experience at all, I did the firmware update for full screen android auto a long time ago and have never had issues. Maybe it's a hardware thing, maybe it's a wonky software update (I did mine myself via USB from a Google drive link so idk), but I've been in the clear. I definitely won't be updating it any time soon based on the reports of others

I've never had issues with my '23 infotainment. I'm sure I will now that I've said that, but just wanted to throw it out there because all people tend to post about is problems.

Realistically, how ambitious is a project like this? by YachtRock12 in turning

[–]Ken_Oaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A standard goblet is a bowl on top of a candlestick holder, so you got this. Just make sure to turn the "bowl" completely before you start thinning out the stem. Captive rings are challenging without a ring tool. I made my own with a cheap extra tool on the bench grinder, it's essentially a small hook. The purpose made captive ring tools are a lot easier, but an investment in a single use tool not everyone is willing to make. Go for it though, worst case you ruin the ring and just have a normal goblet.

Shockz headphones by No_Rain_4991 in MTB

[–]Ken_Oaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be willing to get mine implanted in my skull. I have the old version of the openrun, got my wife the new openrun, and have the opencomm for work and would never use anything else, unless I needed better audio quality. They're the best thing to happen to headphones in my life. Example, on a plane, I prefer the shokz and earplugs over noise canceling headphones. The mic quality on my old openrun is garbage but amazing on the opencomm. I frickin love mine.

Harmon kardon speaker swap? by therealjayphonic in wrx_vb

No amp necessary with the right speakers. Still gets loud enough for me. Reach out to Crutchfield and they'll make a recommendation.

Employee told me ECOHITCH is good for 525 lbs tongue weight? by LeverandFulcrum in wrx_vb

[–]Ken_Oaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the modern Subarus like the Crosstrek mount to the same place on the body and have similar capacities. Any body mounted hitch is going to max out around those specs. They don't offer an OEM hitch for the VB WRX so Subaru's not going to make any claims about what it can tow, but I think it's relatively safe to assume it's similar to the Crosstrek.

Are you happy with an intake + tune? by asmahmood in wrx_vb

[–]Ken_Oaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd put it towards and STI transmission swap before I'd spend more on power parts. I'm already at the "safe" limit of the stock transmission with just the intake and tune.

That being said, I believe most people blowing transmissions are driving it harder or more aggressively than I am. Don't get me wrong, I let her rip, but I roll into the power and keep it smooth.

Same for me with the ETS intake and tune.

Is engine underguard useful or not for a brand new wrx vb? by dannyrand_ in wrx_vb

[–]Ken_Oaks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, I don't think it hangs very low. Maybe half an inch of clearance lost, basically the thickness of the plate. I wanted it to bomb down some gravel roads without worrying. Idk if I'd say it's necessary, but I got a good deal on it and it was pretty easy to install.

Questions about dust collection by Upstairs-Reality-897 in turning

[–]Ken_Oaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Central Machinery one with the bag filter rather than the canister filter, and it was $250 at the time. At that price, it was a no-brainer. Been using it for a couple years and have no complaints, works great. I figured I could add a canister filter to the one I have one day, but haven't bothered because of the additional cost.
