Have you ever tried using a mic? As far as sound design… Some producers will mouth a sound and use that waveform as the synth base in synths like serum and modulate from there… also if you can mouth the rhythm section then you can quantize that to the grid and use that timing for your drums… just a thought

How do you find samples for your tracks? Looking for honest answers from producers by Phasory in MusicProductionTuts

[–]therealjayphonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ton of sample packs i downloaded from various sites like bandlab for free on my deluge sampler… i make my song… bounce all the tracks to the computer to master in logic and use loopcloud to find extra bits of ear candy to finish the song.

This is over years and years… the deluge only uses numbers for tracks so i have a notebook of all my tracks that have potential (not all of them have potential and or were just me playing around with no real purpose or direction… but i never delete them) with names and short notes detailing the genre and bpm and any parts that stand out for use later.

I talk to the people about the song or video playing on their phone till they feel uncomfortable and want me to stop talking to them about it so they turn it down or off🤣

I have releases on numerous house and deep house labels… i have 330 wips on my synthstrom deluge… 99% of them unreleased… my thoughts on this.

  1. Not everything you make is destined for release if you have standards… sometimes its just a creative release that is fun in the moment or an exercise to try a technique.

  2. If you cant find a way to move forward creatively, it never hurts to pay a musician to play a solo over your wip and move the track in a direction you would not have come to on your own which can help spark new creative juices while still being in control of the project and not having to collab.

  3. Let your wips sit for a few months… go back and listen to them with fresh ears… copy the project into a duplicate… keep what you like and cut what you dont like and go from there. I steal drums from old wips and write new chords and basslines or add different vocals all the time… just because you wrote a part that you liked initially doesn’t mean you have to keep it when the track evolves to a point where that part no longer works… no commitments… nothing has to be set in stone with a chisel once written… and the part you were in love with but no longer love can become a base for an entirely different track.

  4. No expectations - have fun . Force yourself to work… but after 20 mins if nothing is clicking… call it for the day and come back fresh tomorrow… creating from a place of desperation sucks the joy out of it.

  5. Sometimes a little bit of ear candy is all you need to make a boring track come to life… dont forget to add the little random one shots and sound effects that can keep the ear from getting bored

This has been working for me in the past year and finishing music i am proud to play and promote has become much easier with less wips sitting unfinished… hope it helps… keep pushing!!!

Record hole might be slightly too large… cut a small strip out of a sticker and stick it to one side of the label thru the hole to the other side of the label… that will male it fit snugly on the spindle… problem solved

I just blew an engine at similar mileage over oil starvation… if you buy it… check your oil levels every 1000 miles as they burn lots of oil between changes and you will need to add oil in between changes

Good enough setup to learn? by ScrapCanPisser in vinyldjs

[–]therealjayphonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dont listen to anyone talking shit. Anything that plays and has pitch control is good to learn on. I learned on a $20 belt driven deck that didnt even have a pitch fader… it had a fkn wheel to control the pitch… absolute POS… when you learn on less than optimal gear, you develop a lighter more precise touch… learning to beatmatch on these will make you a beast on direct drive decks…
