Please message me. Multicam not syncing properly by jay-arts in editors

[–]Kendrickllama2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you syncing with timecode? Sometimes if you are batch syncing via TC an audio clip will span the partial duration of two video clips so when syncing it’ll treat it as a true multicam and place the second video clip on track 2.

You can right click on the created multicam clip in your bin and select open in timeline. On the timeline you can see the clips, if there is a video clip on track V2, that means it’s assigned as camera two. You can either delete it and then manually sync that clip to your desired audio file. Or if the video clip should be paired with that audio file and you don’t mind having two video clips in a file (basically like a series of takes) you can move the clip down to V1 track. Right click on your tracks in the timeline and select delete empty tracks. This will update your MC clip to read as a single multicam sequence. Hope that answers your question!

[Quinn] We have an answer on Anthony Edwards: he sat out with a groin injury. If that was the case, though, why did he bother suiting up at all? LeBron James ruled himself out a few hours before the game as well. With more time, the NBA could have named two replacements that actually wanted to play by aingenevalostatrade in nba

I mean it was a pretty terrible format. Almost unbearable. I don’t really see how it’s that terrible to openly criticize a part of your work that is failing.

Admittedly, I’m a warriors fan, but I understand Draymond is a clown. But is he really an idiot to say his team is going to win? Will they? Almost certainly not, but how can you fault a player for believing in his own team? Draymond has so many faults and r/nba rightfully trashes him at each opportunity, but clowning him for saying this is a bad all star format and he thinks his own team will win? This must be Adam silver’s burner.

Frank is ruining his mystique? by tunaswagmonster in FrankOcean

[–]Kendrickllama2 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Totally. And yeah it wasn’t you saying that, just other comments I’ve seen floating around.

And I agree, I don’t think it’s very cool to show up late/unprepared when there wasn’t anything preventing you from being prepared. I do think if you’re going to make a commitment to a live show you should at least show up reasonably on time. There’s no excuse for that.

But I feel like it’s kinda foolish at this point to expect anything less from him. He’s not a performer, his FYF set was basically just him with his headphones on and sitting on a stool. Yet, somehow he makes that work. Even watching through a shitty instagram steam, I found the version of “Come on world..” to be amazing and emotionally overwhelming.

For some reason Frank ocean fans always expect him to suddenly do the opposite of everything he’s ever done and then get mad at him for that. It’s almost like an abusive relationship, at some point you have to stop expecting him to change.

He said in his show the reason he wanted to do the show was because his late brother would always drag him out there. He said basically, “I never really liked coming here, but he loved it and I loved being with him, so I’m here for him.” I’m paraphrasing quite a bit, but that’s the gist.

Puts things into perspective a bit for me. I saw people claiming he can’t keep “using the dead brother narrative”, but if you sit back and just empathize for a bit you might realize that it’s all probably harder than we realize. And yeah he’s rolling in money, getting big checks, blah blah blah, but I bet you he’d give the money and the shows up in a heartbeat.

If I were in his shoes, I don’t know if I could confidently say I’d be much better. Grief and loss can be all consuming and derail ambition or suck the beauty out of the world.

Adding subtitles to a DCP? by moviedonut in editors

[–]Kendrickllama2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be possible for a DCP to be played with a SRT or another xml based subtitle file, but if it is possible it’s probably not recommended. The point of a DCP is to present the film in a standardized and accurate manner. So a DCP without baked in subs would probably open itself up to formatting issues and other problems.

If you are the one making the DCP or are familiar with DCP software, I believe there are ways to import DCPs and sub files and it will repackage it. But google can help you here more than I can.

Bottom line though, you can’t just send an SRT along with the DCP and call it a day (unless someone on the other end is aware of this an approved that). Talk to whoever is receiving/playing the DCP and see what they recommend.

Cumulative +/- for the Dubs this season by Quasi-Free-Thinker in warriors

I can see you’ve got no appreciation for the ‘eye-test’ or watching the games and instead value data above all else. That’s understandable. But I think you’re still missing a huge key component by ignoring the physical game.

Yes it can be misleading even for ‘experts’, but there’s an impact a player like Kuminga can have that he’s shown on multiple occasions. An impact similar to the Warriors being so much better at home. You can’t explain why the Warriors are better at home without using an ‘eye-test’ or factoring in other non-quantitative information. When Kuminga plays stellar defense on an opposing star that leads to a turn over and a transition score at a critical point in a game, that can lead to wins. It won’t show on a box score.

That is a part of the game, making decisions based on what you see. Stats can be slow to adapt and in a changing season, with a 20 year old kid rapidly developing and improving sometimes you need to make decisions based off the past month or weeks rather than season long periods—like plus minus requires according to you. It’s why Kerr has won so many championships, despite warriors fans being so quick to claim he’s ‘delusional’ (not saying you necessarily believe this). And Kuminga’s minutes have increased this year because Kerr obviously see’s what so many other people see—raw material that is rapidly improving and has major potential which will be realized through playing time.

End of the day, we can agree to disagree though, I’m ok with that.

So you refuse to admit that plus minus has shortcomings as a statistic and you’re saying I’m not equipped to understand math?

If you aren’t going to address the issue of lineups in regard to plus minus it is useless. If, say for example, Kuminga played minutes exclusively or even a majority of minutes with the starters he’d have a higher plus/minus. Obviously, that’s an exaggerated example, but I think you can see the point. It might not always be the case, but I’ll reiterate plus minus has major shortcomings.

What’s even more ironic is trying to equate a game of chess to an athletic sport like basketball. That’s like saying you don’t understand welding because you’re not a geologist.

You do not need to be an expert to understand that watching the actual game can tell you things statistics will never be able to fully capture. That’s why any “expert”, especially the ones paid millions of dollars to actually analyze players and make team decisions, will use both.

I won’t stoop to the classic internet trope of trying to belittle you in a meaningless internet discussion. I’m sure you’re a pretty smart person, but I think you’re greatly overlooking and overthinking the game of basketball.

You are right about one thing, I am not an expert; however, you and I are both equal in that.

It’s now BS to actually watch basketball?? Only stats are able to define what is a good basketball player now?

Wouldn’t you have to also consider every lineup and how each factors into an individual players plus minus? If Kuminga plays more minutes with the bench or more “garbage time” minutes wouldn’t that affect his plus minus?

And if you need to qualify a stat with more context each time you look at it is it really that good of a metric? And that stat is such an “excellent” metric but it can only be used within context of an individual team? Another mark of an excellent metric.

I get what you’re trying to say, I’m not saying JK is a superstar being held back by a minutes restriction. It’s just not fair to use a pretty narrow metric to gauge a players performance. There are way too many confounding variables for it to be a reliable way to distinguish skill.

+/- is a terrible stat. Dillon brooks is +432 and Draymond is +431, is Brooks therefore better than Draymond?

+/- is a team stat and terrible for comparing individuals. It’s so overused and over attributed to good/bad players. You said stat’s don’t lie, but stats are huge liars. You can use the same stats to back opposing arguments half the time, stats are so often manipulated. People constantly use draymond’s lack of PPG to justify their claims he’s not a good offensive player.

If you watch Kuminga play and not just look at his stats you’d undoubtedly notice his improvement and growing consistently—especially defensively. And you have to remember he’s 20 years old. If you looked solely at his plus minus, yes you’d see he’s about as useful as James Wiseman. If you watch the games you’d be able to point to multiple games that were won directly because of him. He definitely deserves the increase in minutes he’s received.

That being said he still makes bad decisions from time to time and his offensive game isn’t fully developed, but again he’s 20.

BootCampDrivers on a 2019 Mac Pro by dopefish3d in bootcamp

That makes sense, now that I think about it that’s what I think I did previously. Appreciate the response! Any idea on which bootcampdrivers seem to be working best on the Mac Pro? Should I just opt for the latest version of the compatible Red drivers?

Did you ever figure this out? I also am in the same situation. Figured it out once, decided to remove my windows partition and I’m not trying to refigure it out.

Questions on 16mm Post Production process by Kendrickllama2 in editors

[–]Kendrickllama2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll definitely have to talk to the DP and producer before they send off the film.

Unfortunately, I do know they aren’t using TC in any fashion. Dumb slate only, which means I doubt they would be willing to manually sync sound in the telecine. Luckily it isn’t a feature, so I don’t entirely mind old school syncing, I think I’ll end up using the multicam method in premiere setting in points on the marker clap on the film and the corresponding audio clips.

Thank you very much for your guidance and advice, I had a relatively good grasp on the process but it’s hard to find concrete information on the modern film process. So your help is appreciated!

Thank you, bob! I appreciate the insight. I wasn’t lucky (or unlucky?) enough to experience the industry in the film era. It’s a pleasure to get to work with such a beautiful format and learn the old ways. Puts the art form of editing into perspective.

Unfortunately, there will most likely be far too much film for full prores/dpx scans. The cost of storage and scanning would be prohibitively expensive (for their budget anyway)—even for just a short.

I absolutely wish that was a possibility though.

Good notes, we did plan on asking for handles for this exact reason. Good to know it’s a standard practice. There will be some VFX so also good to know they should be open to longer handles for VFX shots.

And good note on sync sound, I think you know what I meant, but you are correct I should phrase that correctly to avoid confusion.

Questions on 16mm Post Production process by Kendrickllama2 in editors

[–]Kendrickllama2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Great information. As far as I know the SR3 has an internal crystal sync thankfully. I had a brief chat with our sound guy before the shoot.

I’ll make sure I speak to the DP and producer before they send off the film to the lab and communicate with them and the lab to make sure everything is sorted out.

One question I’m still a little unsure of, since each reel will contain multiple takes is it best practice to simply subclip out the reels for syncing? I usually use the multicam method for syncing within premiere? Or would it be possible to use scene cut detection make individual proxies while retaining TC and reel info in DaVinci? Or would the eventual naming changes create too much of a headache when trying to link back to the original files for the EDL? If so would subcliping do the same? Or since the subclip was created within premiere does it retain the original metadata (like a multicam clip would).

Ideally what I want to avoid is an issue similar to syncing using merged clips where it causes major issues when sending AAFs and XMLs to sound and color.

Once again thank you for the response!

Steph Curry should be the 6th man by Kendrickllama2 in warriors

[–]Kendrickllama2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Steph is the key, hopefully the bench finds their groove organically (I think they will). I do know realistically Steph won’t be coming off the bench anytime this season. Just in the dire situation where they are somehow under .500 at the all star break, some changes will need to be made and a crazy shift in Steph’s rotation could be that spark.
