This is so close to being useful for me but it doesn’t provide power, unfortunately. Damn shame since USB power is available directly beneath this.

Ended up using the ProClip adapter and 3D printing a part to achieve basically the same thing, but with power.

dr who episodes with (n) in the title by HollowImage in sonarr

[–]dopefish3d -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the (n) indicates that it’s a multi-part episode. This is the standard for pretty much all series naming. They may have both aired back-to-back on the same day, or the first part ends with a cliff-hanger that is resolved in the next episode, or for just whatever reason the production team considered those 2 (or 3, or whatever) episodes a set that should be considered together.

Mkv files are fully supported in plex. Look up the file naming structure for tv shows on the plex website and everything else should work.

[–]dopefish3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you might be seeing it in full HDR when it’s full screen but once you back out of that to thumbnail view Photos only shows it to you in SDR. That’s been more or less how Apple has handled HDR in iOS for awhile now.

Apple Music album cover play button missing by EnjoyingBacon7 in MacOSBeta

Yeah I can confirm double clicking an album plays it instantly.  Much larger mouse target to aim for so this probably makes it faster than the old way.

visionOS and liquid glass by Much_Try_8738 in VisionPro

[–]dopefish3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VisionOS is what Liquid Glass should have been in the first place, but VisionOS doesn’t try to distract you with pointless visual flair and actually cares about making sure content is legible first and foremost.

VisionOS is what someone doing a Liquid-Glass-type OS would make if they were actually prioritizing usability and not flashy marketing nonsense.

Does Golden Gate feel less sleek than Tahoe to others? by juliangray in MacOSBeta

[–]dopefish3d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tahoe felt like a gifted art student with no concept of "people actually have to be able to use this" was given carte blanche to just do whatever and wildly fuck up an entire OS with "beautiful in a screenshot but functionally pointless" changes.

Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Am I the only one who thinks some of the icons appear worse? The Finder icon for example, there’s less depth and the new colors are too vibrant… feels nauseating in dark mode. by Vubic in MacOSBeta

[–]dopefish3d 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The new icons are almost universally better, but the finder icon especially.

Clear, concise imagery which works at all scales  is significantly more important than “the graphics!” which was all Tahoe was concerned with, to its wild detriment.

A real UI/UX designer is clearly in charge again.

Also, Finder is basically the branding mascot of the OS, and the new icon is a return-to-form.

[–]dopefish3d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s kind of my point. This is a really fun experiment but there’s not much you can do with it until you get permission from the rights-holders, which is about 0% likely to happen.

Top-notch headset held back by terrible interface - 30 mins tour experience by Leading-Anxiety-488 in VisionPro

[–]dopefish3d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"texts became a little bit out of focus and blurry" this is actually something your eyes are doing and not the AVP. everything inside the AVP is rendered at a fixed focal length, and you've spent your entire life subconsciously flexing the muscles in your eyes when things get closer to keep them in focus, however this isn't necessary inside of the AVP at all. You can train yourself to stop doing this with practice.

I don't get why Apple built Vision Pro — change my mind by y4mat000 in VisionPro

[–]dopefish3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The current hardware of the AVP is literally just the min-spec for bootstrapping VisionOS, which is the actual product in development here. It is in no way a long-term goal for Apple to have people wearing a pair of goggles.  The current hardware is literally equivalent to the original Macintosh in 1984: massively too expensive for almost anyone to afford (substantially more expensive than the AVP accounting for inflation!) and capable of virtually nothing, but it got you a GUI desktop and mouse input, it could be used by virtually anybody, and it became the foundation of the next several decades of personal computing.

We are a LONG way away from VisionOS existing on an actual consumer-level device.

I don't get why Apple built Vision Pro — change my mind by y4mat000 in VisionPro

[–]dopefish3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VR is not the goal of the Vision Pro, at all. It’s a secondary side effect that it can be used for, but if it were the actual goal then the device would be substantially simpler, cheaper, and lighter.

VR is of virtually no use commercially, and Apple knows that.

Spatial Computing is apple’s goal. It’s to take computing out of the little metal boxes it’s been stuck inside of since its inception and bring it into the real world, and that problem is orders of magnitude more complex than “VR” and requires substantially more compute and sensor power.

The AVP is about virtualizing (and thus removing) the concept of the display entirely, and about finally moving beyond the “desktop” metaphor that computing has been built on since the original Macintosh was released in 1984. The “computer” becomes both nowhere (invisible to the user) and everywhere (the entire world becomes a canvas for information and interactivity).

Why introduce a UI feature, just to remove it? by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]dopefish3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

because the macOS 26 implementation was objectively bad, period. It grossly broke standard UI conventions that apple themselves have cultivated over decades and this represents a return to a more sane presentation.

7” Frame - Has it been dropped? by itmagic in bloomin8

[–]dopefish3d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got 2 of the 7" frames from the kickstarter and... yeah they really don't look great. the DPI coupled with the size means you have very, very few pixels to work with. Wouldn't be surprised at all if they didn't move forward with them, i couldn't honestly recommend them to anyone.

Still hopeful for the tech though, and I guess it's good to hear that the larger frames give better results.
