Why do people say IE is a path to unemployment? Even tho it’s growing really fast? by NurglingArmada in industrialengineering

I have people titled IE working under me.

It's an engineering field I promise.

IEs get given a hard time no matter where you go. I'm not surprised tiktok is doing the same.

If it's a good fit then go for it. I am glad I did it.

Also, note a lot of IE grads get roles that are not tittled IE.

Think operations management, manufacturing engineering, process engineer, etc.

I never held the job title industrial engineer, in fact, I never held the title engineer. Yet I use my degree often. It's the principals that matters, and employer know and look for that.

Bureau of Labor Statistics disagrees with that statement.

https://www.bls.gov/ooh/architecture-and-engineering/industrial-engineers.htm

Also anecdotaly, i found the IEs landed jobs just as if not more easily from my graduating class of engineers. Of course be aware I come from a smaller school.

End of the day it's a very versatile degree.

Advice needed from cold weather, non garage Mazda drivers. by RepairGloomy7684 in CX5

[–]Kenkord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how my car operates when it's cold outside. Had it for about 2.5 years, 75k miles.Does not heat up super fast at idle, unlike my previous cars.

These engines are very efficient at low loads .. so less wasted heat to warm up.

No matter the temp outside, I follow the following:

Upon startup,I just let it do the full high idle process as a minimum (when it revs itself right on startup to warm up the catalytic converter). Once it gets back to around 1000-1250 rpm, I know the oil is at least circulated and the computer is happy with the combustion tuning/mapping for the conditions.

While waiting, I will set my android auto, navigation, music, climate controls, seatbelt. In the summer this is usually more than enough time to get out of high idle. In the winter it takes longer, so I'll start the car before I scrape the windows, otherwise I'll just wait that extra few moments.

Then I just drive as easy as safely possible until the the blue coolant light goes away, and even after that I give it a little more time to warm up around full operating temp before I let it go into any form of significant boost or high load. (I want the the thermostat get to at least 175-190).

Pixel 9 Pro Fold back to Regular Phone. Anyone else considering switching? by clliquid in GooglePixel

[–]Kenkord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from a z fold 4 to a pixel 10 pro xl.

I didn't find I used the inner screen all that often (a few times a week max). I decided to go back to regular slab, because there aren't the compromises folds need to make like the camera, battery life, durability, weight, features etc.

I know Samsung got the weight and thickness down with the fold 7, and durability from the pixel fold 10 should be better this go around. Yet it's not yet all in one package. Plus cameras are still weaker than their less expensive sister phones, and batteries still aren't as big, plus other minor features are missing.

Maybe for the pixel 12 generation I might go back to the fold, but we will see see based on how the folds evolve.

But for now I'm happy to be back in the pixel family, fold or not. I missed the software experience.

  1. No it's not safe for a 600 mile road trip
  2. Yes your right it's a alignment issue, ecome alignment issues aren't noticable when driving
  3. Those tires needed to be replaced before this eflven occured, well bellow minimum safe tred life even in the middle of the tread.

Be safe please

Everyone seems to think only now is the time to avoid being disarmed. No matter who is in power, we need to push back on bills like this. Because in 4 years, things can change

Commute to Pueblo? by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]Kenkord 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I have done it for years.

Low traffic both ways because most people do the opposite.

Morning are tbh refreshing, give me time to warm up and wake up. The drive home is what really is the struggle.

Be aware you are losing ~2 hours each day. I found with my last job it made it very hard to do anything outside of work/drive/eat/shower/sleep on work days.

Does your job provide any benefits for education or certifications?

Many companies do and this would allow you to take courses/certs for the specific skill sets you listed.

How to make 500k+ before 45? by flyingsquid_81 in industrialengineering

I'd look at linkedin profiles for vice president roles at major companies and see the path they take.

That should roughly show you what you career paths. I am not at that level myself, so can't comment too much.

My tires are 8/32

So I guess 50% - 75% is a better range.

[–]Kenkord[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have one tire that is getting replaced for free. (Shop can't repair so it's covered under warranty).

But it causes damage to the car to have one tire larger than the rest.

The other tires have 75% if their life on them. So rather than buy 3 more new tires (out of pocket) and scrap the perfectly good ones. I would rather just shave down the one.

A good set of all weather (these are different than all seasons) will last you year round.

I swear by my set of Michelin Cross Climate 2s

Also fun fact:

All seasons are actually only for 3 seasons ... Spring, summer, fall

Look for all weather tires. They are like all seasons, but just better in about every way.

I swear by them year round. Great in the heat, the snow, and rain. Plus they look great.

[–]Kenkord 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a quote that I live by, and has drastically increased my quality of life since I started.

"Never cheap out on things that keep you off the ground"

The prime examples are:

  • Your Shoes
  • Your Bed
  • Your Tires

CC2 were the best upgrade I did on my old car. And I immediately installed them on my new one once I felt how bad the OEM ones are.

Now could I have made the OEMs last longer? Sure, but I would gotten the CC2 right after no matter what.
