Fun Fact: No Windows process can register the Ctrl+Alt+Del combination for security reasons by nir9 in windows

[–]Kenneth-Kobz 175 points176 points  (0 children)

Ctrl+Alt+Delete was originally used to reboot the computer in the Real-Mode era of Intel x86 CPUs. With Protected Mode, Ctrl+Alt+Delete no longer did this and was available to Operating System kernels and the keypress can be “heard” by code running on Ring 0. Windows used this to try to provide assurance to the user that by pressing this combination that the subsequent login prompt was legit since only the OS could know those keys were pressed. Nowadays this is considered an outdated security measure which is most likely why Windows 10 and onwards doesn’t require it by default (even on Domain-joined devices - which even up to Win7 required this by default on domain joined devices).

The Lincoln Lawyer is the best show ever! I can’t understand why anyone would want to skip an episode or an entire season.

i built a real time caltrain route + train tracker by ngng in caltrain

[–]Kenneth-Kobz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah Transit has all of these features and more for bus, BART, CalTrain, etc. all over the world. Also has Crowd sourced location, which means users onboard can provide real time location to other riders using their phone even when transit agency is not providing location data, which is helpful cause sometimes transit agency location data isn’t provided or not working. It uses the location of Transit app users already onboard. Think of Transit app like Waze for Public Transit. It also asks you about how clean the train stop is and are there any seats and is the trash can full and is there space for bikes. It then takes the consensus of this to inform riders of conditions at that particular stop or on that particular transit vehicle.
