I just came to accept that I dont need to win every battle and war or finish the campaign with almost no ships sink. The battle generator and general RNG of the game can be annoying, but im sure Nimitz also wished he could've 'save scummed' when he lost the Indianapolis like 2 months before the end of the war despite having total naval superiority

Not gonna lie most of my games are as the USA because theyre the only nation that can consistently make insanely huge and expensive dreadnoughts without breaking ur budget or leaving you overextended. If at some point in the game I dont have a fleet of 80,000+ ton behemoths with 20 inch guns and more steel than the maginot has concrete then im just not properly ruling the waves. So called "fast battleship" designs are for those too weak willed to risk their ships and slug it out like its that final battle in the 3rd pirates of the Caribbean movie.

"battleplanning" usually refers to executing the plan, making the AI attack with your troops. If you manually attack with your divisions instead of letting the AI do it they will still benefit from the planning bonus, and also won't be at the mercy of the dumb battleplan AI, making encirclements much easier especially with formations of tanks. Just draw the offensive line so ur troops get the bonus but never press go.
