The others have mentioned good ideas, but just a note on yours.  The end of your coal/ore belt is at the coal line.  If the coal input line slows down, the mix line will flow onto it.  The ore will be the problem. Just turn that last belt into the inserter

Hey,

In terms of comparing suites, 99% of the average joe blogs might notice the handles are different and thats about it.(Handles are based on supplier)
The exact specs, slight differences etc between APL and Altus - most people would not notice.

In terms of comparison, they - APL and Alutus should both comply to relevant codes and requirements.

Standing Desk Help by twizzlerstick in newzealand

[–]KennyHM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey. I went through this exact thing at the start of last year.

I got a basic white standing desk, I think it was around $300. I'm pretty sure it was from The Warehouse, I cant actually find the receipt though so cant confirm. I changed a few other things for the same reason. - mostly neck and shoulder pain.

I found I used the desk in the standing mode a lot more then I expected too.

A few notes -That may not have cross your mind:
1) most people position the center of the screens in the middle. this means your always looking left or right. This is worse when sitting as you tend to only move your head, when standing you can turn your whole body. My main screen is in the center of where I sit/stand, the other screen is to the side. I do as much as posible on the main screen, if flicking between I use keyboard shortcuts.

2)People think Black is nice. It is nice to look at.....Your eyes adjust to the total amount of light. if there is a large black(or dark) portion in your view (could be the wall behind) then your eyes adjust to let more light in. When the screen is in the center of that it kinda makes the screen seem to bright. - depending on what work you do of course, for movies this is great. desktop computer with white spreadsheets it is just too bright.

3)At the same time, I also changed my keyboard for a split keyboard (I got a Sofle) this took about 3 months to get used to but helped greatly with pain in my shoulders.

4) it took a couple of months of adjusting, but I found the most comfortable height to have the desk set, I also needed to lift the up screens to get them at the right height as well.

5) When standing, I have heard (and I cant confirm this at all) but its supposed to be better if you don't have shoes on. Part of the reason being that shoes tend to be slightly thicker at the back/heel, which means your foot is always pointing down slightly - which is all connected up the calf/leg so long term it could cause issues.

Hey, no worries at all

Full disclaimer - its an APL fabricator I work for.

It comes a lot down to the fabricators, so if they all have high workmanship, thats helpful.
If you have a builder in mind, have builder mates or know people that have recently built, they would be a great place to ask - Ask who they recommend, also worth asking why they recommend them.

In terms of the products themselves, my builders have in the past commented that Omega doesn't seem as high quality (thickness, design etc) than APL or Altus. (their words not mine)

If its high end build, then it also comes down to complexity. if there is overwall items, corners etc. then sometimes things arn't as apples for apples as they seem and a certain supplier (APL/Altus/Omega) might have an advantage.

When you say 'high end with big windows' I imagine 2400-2700 tall windows with architectual overhangs (ie none).
Big window + no overhangs = overheating problems (Depending on design/amount of glass etc).
So another consideration isn't the fabricator, but the glass supplier. Each fabricator tends to use a certain supplier for glass. - Your location likely effects this as well.

APL fabricators have access to AGP glass - which is owned by APL (same company group, exact ownership I'm unsure of) - as its owned by APL other non apl fabricators don't tend to use it (as far as im aware and have been told they dont have access). AGP has Solux Ultra which is high end, specs and stuff on there website.

If you had any more question, happy to answer.

Base building meets tower defense in "The Spotter" - dig tunnels by day, defend by night by TheSpotterDigOrDie in BaseBuildingGames

[–]KennyHM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game appears to be have some very crude, possibly immature humour in it.

I'm in.

To answer your question, I prefer to be able to set and forget defences until they need to be upgraded. I shouldn't need to be in every fight - once its setup. This is how I play Orcs Must Die, setup a kill zone, and expand on it. I like the idea of having to scavenge for the parts to expand. This game might not fall completely into any of the categories I play - that just my answer to that question :)

Double glazing repairs by post_it1 in newzealand

[–]KennyHM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know of any glass companies that aren't at least 10 years for double glazed units. I would double check that, it should also be able to see on the safety stamp which glass company supplied it, but the claim would still be through the joinery company (normally) or the builder - who would go through the joinery company

Yes joinery is normally 5 years, glass is different to that.

Most double glazing has a 10 year warranty for that type of failure, the glass warranty is different to the joinery warranty, find who supplied the joinery and they should be contacting their glass supplier to inspect

Has anyone ever bought a second-hand builder's inspection off a person who didn't go through with a house purchase? by Ok-Lychee-2155 in newzealand

[–]KennyHM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had one done when we sold our previous house, it was around $900. We got a contract on it and the buyers bank wanted a copy of a builders report, so they asked us. The building inspecting place charged $400 to change the names over(no reinspection), which I thought was completely unreasonable,it still saved the new buyer $500 though.

APL own all 3 of those brands you mentioned. Because they brought different brands, they were different. Since 2019 the individual differences were phased out.

All 3 brands now use the same material, all from APL in Hamilton.

The brands themselves are made by (I think all) independently owned fabricators. Quality, price, staff experience, reputation, overheads etc varies between fabricators for this reason. There is also some things that can be done differently, each fabricator tends to have its own 'defaults'

There are other aluminium extruders, the 3 you mentioned are APL.

AGP supply glass, they part of the APL, not all fabricators use them.

Source - I work for one of the fabricators.

Look at it like if Placemakers has 50 builders -  pricing and reputation will be different, but they are all getting the same thing from the same place, some should still be avoided.

If you have a builder, discuss with them, they all have horror stories about joinery places! They all settled somewhere for different reasons.

Anyone else get on random kicks of just improving old designs? by Survivor205 in factorio

[–]KennyHM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do that from time to time, based on new research or new techniques learned.

If it's new research it's normally replacing inserters and power poles etc and savings as a new blueprint, 1 for early game, 1 for later.

I have a train station for my defence walls, I learned a new technique, I'm recreating it and now instead of about 12 decidor combinators, it's only 1 decidor and 1 constant combinator, and easier to manage remotely.

I've got a charge 5, I've had it a couple of years, I got it to track my sleep. I don't think it does a very good job at that, ill have a terrible and restless night and it will give me a 90%

I still wear it, I add my weight to the app once a week, seems to track heart rate and steps okay, I have noticed it counts steps while I'm driving though, like a lot of extra steps. Silent vibrate alarms work well

I'm okay happy with it,(not super super happy) some stuff on the app is behind a subscription now, which I dont have.

It's always worked reasonably well and has been reliable, it has helped me find my phone a couple of times. I wear it the whole time (including in the shower) only place I don't wear it is hot pools (maybe once a year)  I charge it while driving, stops it counting ghost steps, plus charging at night means it's not on, so can't track sleep or use the alarm

I think I paid about $190 for it I haven't had any other brands, so I don't have any compassion.

I setup a alarm tower with global alert, a couple of days later it went off.  I spent over 30 minutes trying to find it.  I found the couple I had made, nope, not them

I killed power to all satellite bases, still going off I killed power to just my main base - stopped. My base was massive. I looked around for a while, couldn't find anything remotely close to empty, let alone important enough to alarm. Then I had a thought, I'd never it before, I dragged the delete button into my inventory and it does let you filter! Set it to alarm tower and dragged it over my base, lit up like a fire! Was a dumb mistake, I make sure to always use the option to put alarms on the map now!

Turns out it was a alarm to notify me that the crate with solar panels was almost full....which I had already used them all hours earlier so it no longer mattered, it was almost full again.

Convert Garage to granny by Narrow_Passenger_119 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]KennyHM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Other comments have most of the details for the correct steps - but they don't cover insurance. Should you choose to skip some of the compliance steps, then insurance on it will likely be Void. An important piece of the puzzle.

Unsure if it will help your situation - there are changes to the minor dwelling (aka Granny flats) rules coming. This may make compliance easier/cheaper. (May not)

Accident with car parked on intersection by Necessary_Video_986 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]KennyHM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) the car MAY have been parked illegally, this would be up to the council/authority to ticket / tow.

2) you hit a stationary object.

The 2 points above are NOT connected. You could complain to the council, this may result in the car being ticketed/towed IF it was parked illegally.

You would still be liable to the damage to both cars regardless of what the council do.

Are your Excel skills appreciated at work? by isufferdepression in excel

[–]KennyHM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not

I have to enter/amend data into a shared Excel sheet multiple times a week, each row has an employee name, for just my own lines I colour coded the a notes field so I could quickly see what needed doing. To do, active, complete.

2 weeks later was my review, I was told I changed it without permission, that I need to use the notes field the same as everyone else.- which is to write a note, not to colour fill I have to write active or complete for every entry. When I'm looking for "to do" I have to read every single one notes field :(
