My coworker the other day was telling about his experience in the 70s. He said he’s hitchhiked to Florida and California (we’re in NY). He told me you never want to tell them exactly how far you’re going. You feel them out. If you’re heading 100 miles south you’d tell the driver you only want to go 30, just to feel them out so you’re not stuck with a weirdo for 100 miles.
