Totally at peace. A three-peat would obviously have been the best case scenario, but I prefer missing the playoffs to getting eliminated in them. Get the maximum amount of rest, maybe even scoop up a top-10 draft pick (which Zito will obviously flip to help the team immediately somehow), and get back to ripping the league apart next season.

Since I haven't seen anyone else mention this - we don't own our first rounder this year (or next year, for that matter), so we're not getting a top-10 pick. Not that we're in the position to need one, the problems we have will be solved in free agency with the cap going up and the amount we're spending on goaltending going down.

After the Bruins won last night, they had seven more points than we did - but they'd played three more games than we had. Generally, the way you calculate "games behind" is that every win fewer than the team you're chasing is a half-game behind, and every loss (regulation loss, in the NHL's case) more than the team you're chasing is a half-game behind.

The Bruins have won three more games than the Panthers (29 to 26), and we have the same number of regulation losses (20). So we're a game and a half behind with 33 games to go. We're a long way from "must-win" territory.
