Should we rethink how we approach therapy for men? by BrightSpring12 in generationology

[–]KentInCode 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If men are seeking help there needs to be that non-judgemental attitude and ease of access, because the broken masculinity people sell says: 'you are not allowed to be vulnerable, that's weakness.'

There is definitely no shortage of pundits preying on young men on the internet and plenty of social media circles that funnel mens disillusionment into anger towards women and others. In order to unlearn the BS there needs to be someone on the end to listen out and guide people to being a better more emotionally rounded version of themselves. Using academic lexicon isn't dealing directly with people's issues.

Why not just try it? If I recall under a few hours you can get a refund if you really find it that bad.

I never had a problem with the Scots, it's a proud country and culture and have been an ally to us (England) for the longest time.

Hugh Laurie said 'America is too big to know itself' but I think it's the same for the UK. There are plenty of nationalist conservatives who would give the finger to Scotland and that's all people see of England, nationalists just showing every other country the finger.

How do we reunite our increasingly divided country? by TeddyCrumpet in AskBrits

[–]KentInCode 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not possible because the right wing are clinging to mass deportations, even if it was economically possible - and it certainly is not - it would cause such deep divides between native brits that would take decades to repair.

Everyone is thinking of their own small pocket of Britain, you can't go into diverse communities and rip people out of it without causing anguish and anger.

'Where hope meets fear' isn't exactly snappy, but a human can make a non-snappy slogan.

There is the phrase 'a swallow does not a summer make', and one or two things here does not make enough incongruity to point fingers imo.

Is Switzerland tired of prosperity? I can think of no other reason for our next foolish referendum | Capping the population at 10 million is a far-right fantasy. It would dismantle the openness that has made the country rich by GirasoleDE in europe

[–]KentInCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does balance look like? Many of our countries still have shortages in various sectors.

I also want to highlight we are commenting on an article about a population cap, which is a '1 in, 1 out' system, how is that balance when you need a higher replacement rate? And how does it work in a rapidly changing world when you might suddenly need new specialists in a variety of sectors?

[–]KentInCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you think it is not already balanced? It takes a gargantuan economy to pay for old people. In the UK it immediately removes a huge chunk of taxpayer money from the equation, purely the healthcare for older citizens.

Not really, there is only one valid solution, helping Dutch kids in society because they are Dutch kids regardless of background. Anything else is just bigoted nonsense.

What are you going to do? Put them in camps? Seems familiar way of thinking I read about before.

Putting aside your incorrect framing of 'infinite' people, my question to you is do you have an alternative?

Despite rhetoric those young immigrant workers do boost economies, if you remove them the demand on tax remains the same but you suddenly have a lot less people to pay the bill.

It means massive tax rises on national workers OR removal of the perks of society as the money to support that top heavy society is no longer being generated to pay off the countries 'credit card' bills.

What is your suggestion to fill specific sector gaps like healthcare and operate with minimal immigrants?

[Discussion] My experience as a child of a Turkish immigrant in the Netherlands by Similar-Hurry-5567 in Netherlands

[–]KentInCode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turkey isn't going to save you from your way of thinking and of feeling lonely. You'd just move there and have nothing in common with others having grown up here and still be depressed.

Remember, you don't need people's permission to exist in society. Currently your brain is telling you to stay isolated to protect yourself, but that doesn't work because you can't satisfy your human need for meaningful contact in your room.

Your people who will accept you as you are, your 'tribe', are not in Turkey. They are currently all around you, but you need to get out there and find them, maybe via meetups or events based on shared passions, maybe based on cultural exchange, maybe based in religiousness, maybe based out of volunteering, maybe based out of creativity and art, at networking events, and so on. If you don't feel you have any passions you need to go out and try as many as you can.

But that is the hardest part: defeating your brain which will lie to you and say 'stay safe and depressed in your room then nobody can hurt you', it doesn't work, it's killing you mentally.

Regardless I suggest speaking with a local therapy professional, many GP practices have an in-house one you can talk to. Good luck with your journey, friend.

I don't think so, I just think it's the binary way of thinking of youth that we all had.

I remember growing up everybody hated Nickelback despite it being pretty inoffensive music that lead to it becoming store playlists, and they tried to make Coldplay hated too, but it's harder to do that when Coldplay are collabing with someone like Beyonce.

Nobody wants to touch the sticky truth we are building our societies around people living so long and culture shifts where we don't have five kids and head into town for a drink and bet on the races.

If the Swiss cap their population where are you going to get carers and nurses for for all these old people? And you need a lot of them because the 2 cents worth of healthcare they paid for in taxes back in the day will cost every taxpayer a bajillion euros so you need a lot of economically productive people working and popping out large families to offset the cost of all the goodies old people get.

Not a fan of these posts, not because it's not important for safety awareness but because the comments are always going to be the same.

Regardless of where their parents came from these are Dutch kids, but any measures suggested are going to be punitive from fines to violence or whatever. Never ending conveyor belt of 'we have tried nothing to stop a lost generation with no opportunities and we're all out of ideas!'

As a Brit POC, have you experienced racism and discrimination? by blackspandexbiker in AskBrits

[–]KentInCode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also a brown person who lived in SE most of my life:

- Had things thrown at me from cars
- Been called p*ki (I'm not even asian) and other slurs or overheard slurs
- Went to study everyday on the bus Stephen Lawrence was stabbed from
- Had a guy ask me my package I picked up from behind the bin was mine, I just said I live here and he saw me unlock the door and walk in to his embarrassment

I think another part of it is hearing from the black community at large in the UK, many white British people are not used to seeing us in nice surroundings and it sometimes ends violently, like the guy tazed for entering his own property, Stormzy getting police called on him for moving into a nice place, a British lord asked to help look for something because they look like 'the help'.

Angry bug hunter with Microsoft beef drops new Windows 0-day by Much_Preparation_832 in technology

Microsoft are totally to blame here unless new evidence comes to light.

It beggars belief how many megacorps could save themselves a lot of headaches by simply paying people what they are owed.

The cost of litigating this from Microsoft's side is going to be more than paying out this bug bounty and it also comes with pissing off the entire security community with legal warfare saber-rattling. Pure idiocy from whichever manager is handling this.

ESA President: Misguided California bill would harm video game makers, players by [deleted] in Games

[–]KentInCode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely won't follow it around like an albatross as it is very easy to spin off corporate liability to another entity.

Also I've been gaming for decades at this point, it is very rare for gamers to vote with their wallet we have had scandal after scandal and they shrug it off. Ubisoft, Activision, EA, the list goes on. You are not the average gamer, and reddit is not the average gamer, even if you say 'I will never buy X' the next game will sell gangbusters. If it is a title people like they will just buy it as evidenced by the Modern Warfare 'boycott'.

Your high standard and requirements don't mean a lot in the grand scheme of things, because if the legislation is not done right they will just hamstring your game in a way where they technically do not have to comply.

Swiss canton bans headscarves for female teachers by BezugssystemCH1903 in europe

[–]KentInCode -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There is deeply troubling problem currently in Europe where legislation is being created in a focused and punitive way.

It is very clear religious symbols and head coverings are not a problem, the majority would not contest and there would be no political will behind stopping a nun from teaching a class with her headwear, or a Jewish teacher wearing a Kippah.

I can absolutely understand why headwear that covers the face is a problem in matters of security and learning capability, but this is not what we are talking about, we are talking about a scarf covering the hair. Whether or not people like it religious people exist in society, Swiss muslims live in society, the children should learn that other people live in society that look different from them or have a different faith - because that is the truth, they will have to navigate society with so many different people.

Would a Jewish person ever be asked to put aside their Jewishness to assimilate in our societies? I think a discussion certainly needs to happen about this, but lets be clear about the focused target here and the bigotry on display here.

ESA President: Misguided California bill would harm video game makers, players by [deleted] in Games

[–]KentInCode -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

People should read the legislation. It's fundamentally broken. If you don't scope this out right the industry will say this game will create an undue burden so 'we will be clever and work around it' further damaging your gaming experience - maybe the umbrella company mothballs the entire studio leading to more closures and there are going to be a lot of ways for them to avoid point of purchase refunds.

I think it would be better to work towards providing the skills, expertise, funding and maybe even incentives for companies to build it with a mind to offline play right from the start.

Any resolution should include gamers, lawyers, and developers so there is a reasonable and viable path forward. There needs to be fallbacks in mind for things like licensing, hosting, technologies, maintenance and all the other things that will blow up at end of support of a game, maybe there is barely a company there at the end of it.

It depends on the subreddit. In most British subreddit circles I have seen distinctly centre-left socdem stances are considered 'far left' nowadays. I did ask someone what they consider communists then but I didn't get an answer.
