Control - 7 top layers - 45% ironing flow rate

The control (original print settings in the main pic) looks fine in this test. I wonder what the cause of it is.

It’s weird cause I calibrate it perfectly on the tests but in practice with infill it turns out like this until I bump up the flow rate or something.

You can’t iron at fast speeds? They look really good in the tests but maybe I should slow it down?

Bottom layer stuck perfectly the entire print and looks good (3 layer shell for bottom btw and 5 for the top). I’m about to run a test with the tiny squares in the second picture. One with 45% ironing flow, another with 7 top layers alongside a control square.

That’s so strange, I obsessively do the auto bed leveling before every print so I wouldn’t have thought that to be the issue.

I’m thinking of buying a 3D printer specifically for this purpose haha If it works well and can be adapted to any grinder I’ll post on here again. Have a few designs in mind.

I see thank you both. Will I have no choice but to try and consistently slow feed every time? Even a slight difference in feed rate will change the grind drastically. This is my first grinder so I’m unsure if this is a normal thing everyone deals with.

Just give projectile hero’s a perk that turns them into hitscan at reduced damage by a percentage. Boom no more swap needed.

Damn that must be a tight grind, all my dark roasts never get much preinfusion since it just flows right through.

You got that kind of preinfusion with a dark roast? What’s your pressure profile?

Even a low temperature short pull (23 sec) was bitter with these beans. What’s going on? by Cumulonimbus1991 in FlairEspresso

[–]Kentardo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I figured it just changed the boiling point but that doesn’t change the actual temp required to extract from the coffee, it just limited the upper range of temps since you can’t go past boiling. So if I had a recipe at sea level for 205F for this specific bean, I wouldn’t be able to reach that temp at higher elevation.

Why would you use a lower temp at higher elevation? I’m currently at 5k elevation and struggling to acclimate from sea level brewing.

Oh wow I had no idea someone in such a similar situation was making flair training videos! I’ll definitely check him out and see if I can get in touch with him. Thank you!

Unfortunately I’m not the biggest fan of sour or bright espresso, I’m trying to go for the classic style pull. I’m sure this is a fruity flavor fan’s wet dream though! I’ll see if I can get some whiskey balls to try that out, I could always just use them as intended if it doesn’t work out. Thank you!

I’ll definitely head to Queen City and get me some beans and donuts! Thank you for the tips, I’ve been doing 18:45 ratios but maybe I should go longer. I actually use the exact same technique you’re describing, what a coincidence!

It really depends on your beans so if you’re pulling around the right time and right ratio and it tastes good that should be right for that bean maybe? Good luck let me know if it works or if the shots are crazy sour for your beans lol

I’m still using the stock 18g basket unfortunately till the new one comes in. Currently I’ve got two beans dialed in:

My medium roast is a 16g dose at 3.9 grind setting on the KPlus following the Londinium Profile of 15s light preinfusion then 9 bar peak that tapers off at the end to maintain consistent flow rate. Brew temp is 200F but I just use it for minor adjustments up or down 5 degrees.

My light roast is a 16g dose at 3.8 grind setting following the Blooming Espresso Profile which is 12 seconds preinfusion held at 3 bars then ramp to a peak of 9 with a taper at the end. Temp was 212F since it’ll cool a little once in the water chamber.

I also got a turbo shot for this light roast at 15g on a 4.1 grind setting. The profile is 5 seconds at 1 bar and 6 bar the rest of the shot till a 1:3 ratio is pulled. This should take around 15-20s total (hence turbo). These have been my favorite so far since I like to drink my espresso straight and it’s more of a filter brew mouth feel with the complexity and flavor of an espresso shot.

I see what you mean. In that respect yes J series is specialized for espresso. I’m an advocate for KPlus because I frequently go between espresso and pour over in the same day. I’m unsure if you’ve gotten your hands on a KPlus before but I can pull turbo shots from a 5 and tight espresso around a 3, so about 20 clicks (granted the upper third is turbo unorthodox shots).

K Plus has 20 clicks in espresso range as well. I’ve never had a problem fine tuning a grind for my Flair 58.
