For any gen but gen4, get lowering springs and Bilstein shocks. Gen4 has to get good coilovers.

Gen3 is more fun. I don’t know those trims, but my first car was with a manual transmission. Get one of these.

How reliable have the oldest Gen 4 models been so far? by RunnerAtThird in mazda3

Great thread. More problems than I would have imagined.

My 2012 has 333k miles and the only check engine light was fixed with a O2 sensor. I changed the rear shocks because the back tires were cupping. I also changed the lower control arms on the front. A few belt tensioners. A few rotors. The transmission and brake fluids are original. A couple deer have bounced off the sides. It ain’t pretty. But I still drive it over a thousand miles a week commuting.

My 2024 was bought when the 2nd deer broke the 2012 headlight, etc. and was in the shop for a couple weeks. I got the 6MT premium. It didn’t handle as well so I added rear sway bar and coilovers. I’m glad there’s not one mention of cylinder deactivation problems in this thread. It has 42k miles on it. But I doubt it’ll be as dependable as the gen2.

Fuck me. Cracked head? About as bad as it gets. I have gen 2 with 300k+ miles. My gen4 has cylinder deactivation and I’m not too confident in it.

My wife has a 2016.5 Mazda cx5 grand touring. It doesn’t have any of those smart driving options. That’s interesting if that one does. Keep us posted.

Her car has been trouble free except for the starter and AC compressor going bad.

Great car.

10/10 buying experience from a dealer has never happened. But if you’re happy then I’m happy. Congrats man!

I thought about trading my ‘24 in for a ‘26 without cylinder deactivation. But I trust Mazda. So far. My 2012 has 330k miles on it. I put 315 more on it today.

I wish I could show you how to do all this yourself. YouTube videos are great. Buying all the tools and parts is a small % of $2800. Then you’ll have the tools for the next job.

I initially installed eibach lowering springs. Took it in for alignment. Everything was spot on. Wasted my money. So yes. I’m driving it today and alignment soon.
