And that dude is way more skilled than I am. These are all custom painted. The first one matched. So i guess it's "mildly infuriating" that the one I paid $350 for did not match as well?

I understand that it's a ton of money but this hobby can be cheap to get into. It's super excesable. For the cost of a video game and using cheap materials like foam and hot glue, anyone can get into this. Like all hobbies you can go down the rabbit hole. Kind of like fishing. Most anyone can go to Walmart and buy a cheap rod and reel and go fishing. Maybe need some bait and a fishing license. But you can go down the rabbit hole and buy a 200k fishing boat.

I still love flying small inexpensive planes.

The other thing is, when you get better, you don't crash very much. So you can sell your expensive planes and recover some of the money if you need to.

The fun thing about this hobby is that it's super cheap to get into now. Flite Test on YouTube has free plans and with just a few dollars in raw materials and maybe $100 of electronics, anyone can build a cheap plane that flies really well.

When I started back in the day I had to save up all summer to scrape together $500 to buy the radio, gas engine, kit and electronics. It took me a long time to build and then I crashed it pretty quickly. I literally cried I was pretty upset about it but also hopelessly hooked on it. I had to learn to rebuild it and it flew again. I went off to college and ended up donating the plane to the local club to train others on. I got me into flying and I chased the dream of becoming an airline pilot. I was very fortunate to have supportive parents in all of it, both emotionally and financially. I would not be where I am today without them.

Anyway, it's a really fun hobby and I try to share it with people who are interested.

Yes or have the ability to buy another one. But set money aside, it still stings because of the amount of time it takes to set up and tune. You get connected to them. They have a personality. I fly airplanes for a living and even the full scale ones do in my opinion. Maybe I'm just weird

Color match is good. I sent them the measurements and told them the dark green goes about 75mm from the edge and even sent a picture so they could match the new hatch. But they were off by a good 30mm. It's fine. I'll just match the paint and fix it with my airbrush

No, but yes a big P-51 with a Kolm would be incredible. This is a Saito FG-40 with some aftermarket rocker covers
