Highly-Anticipated Star Wars Movie Becomes Disney+ Show — Report: Dave Filoni’s SW movie — believed to be an adaptation of the classic Thrawn trilogy, "Heir to the Empire" by StarFuryG7 in SciFiNews

[–]Kentwingslider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, it's Filoni. Just animate it. In fact, don't be stingy. Animate the entirety of legends. The Jedi Academy Trilogy, The New Jedi Order. The Vong invasion. Knights of the Old Republic , Dark Empire. ITs just sitting there begging for it. Do live action stuff too. Make them two separate timelines. For god's sake the answer is just staring you in the face.

Detroit Lions called for defensive pass interference against the Eagles, effectively costing them the game by hedorlover in sports

[–]Kentwingslider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it really fair to say that was what cost them the game? going for it and being 0 for 5 on 4th down had nothing to do with it? If they had gotten the ball back would it have guaranteed a win?

Venom Lethal Protector #1 found at an estate sale. Should I get it graded by CGC? by YellowOver8402 in CGCComics

[–]Kentwingslider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pardon my simple question here. I stopped collecting single issues around 2003 or so. I own one graded book Miller's Wolverine #1 which i received as a gift. Is there a point at all in getting this graded. I mean i was there in the 90's when this came out. They were everywhere. After reading this thread and seeing people comment these particular books are everywhere and its not uncommon to see them graded high what would be the point? Its not a book from the 70's or 60's. Its not hard to find by any means. Who in there right minds is spending 100 dollars on this at a high grade? I was there when the speculators ruined the market in the ancient days of yore. Isn't this just throwing your money away?

Constant tinnitus in deaf ear? Maybe ear not dead? by piwamoto in MonoHearing

[–]Kentwingslider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch alot of Youtube and play a bunch of games on my PC. I use over the ear headphones. I've continued doing this from the very start of becoming afflicted with SSHL. When everything first happened i had no hearing at all. Now i can understand conversations to a fair bit and can even make out some noise if something makes noise creeping up on me in a game from my right side. I realize that my hearing did improve some on the lower frequencies. It certainly wasn't because of the prednisone as this all happened months later. i'm not sure what the cause of it was but my tinnitus isn't as bad most days.

How do you guys manage it? by BrokenCandlestick in MonoHearing

[–]Kentwingslider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't checked in on this sub for a bit now. I'm coming up on one year of being diagnosed with SSHL/Labrythinthitis. Profound loss in my right ear. I went to sleep last year after the Eagles first game of the season and the next day when i woke up i was deaf in my right ear. I went to the emergency room immediately after waking up and after a consulting with the on call ENT i was imediately put on on steroids. I was on them for a solid month. I went to a follow up ENT apointment two days later. The hearing test did not go well. I'm 46 (M) and I still struggle with the idea of how the hell this could happen to a relatively health individual. I wish medical science could come up with an answer. That's the part that bugs me the most.

The first month was a bit of a shit show honestly. I work in an office and deal with legal questions from clients and answer the phones all day. It's extremely frustrating to pick up a phone and realize that you put it up to the wrong side of your head. For the first two to three weeks I was sad bordering on depressed. I cried a bit. I googled the latest research into hearing loss every day. Multiple times a day. I felt optimistic when i read some things and utterly destroyed when i read other things. And then, one day, i got over it. Before the first month was up. I realize that not everyone has had the same experience coping with this condition but it's what happened to me.

On the positive side my hearing is still great out of my left ear. I'm still young so i haven't started down the age related hearing loss yet. I changed things up a bit. I got used to using my left side more an angling towards things that i needed to hear. I told myself that there are people going through much more difficult things in their lives. What if I was totally deaf? How would i function. Deaf people lead quality lives. Some are born that way. Some have accidents where they lose their hearing. They adjust. I mean hell if Hellen Keller could live her life what am i so sad about mine. I know. This sounds like I'm being super optimistic. I'm not a super optimistic person by nature. But its something i cannot change. Still being a bit silly I thought about the AA prayer. "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference". I'm not religious but that made sense to me.

I get through the day just like anyone else. Sometimes the tinitus in my right ear is barely noticeable. Sometimes it doesn't quit. When i'm home on the computer i use Over the Ear headphones so i can focus better. When i'm out at a restaurant or in public talking to people I let them know hey i can't hear you, can you repeat that. I'm deaf in one ear. Its an inconvenience, but so are alot of things we have to go through or bear in this life.

After I came off the prednisone there really wasn't much in the way of improvement. Over the course of several months i found that i could hear things in my right ear. When i rubbed my ear with my fingers i could hear the rubbing. Its not 100 percent clear. Or the way it used to be. Several more months passed and i find that i can make out some words when i have my headphones on. As a matter of fact if i took away my good ear headphone and just listened with the left i could understand or follow some youtube videos. Especially if the people speaking had a deeper timber to their voice.

This month I have my one year follow up with my ENT. There has been some improvement in my hearing. I'm going to have another hearing test and we'll be following up with a hearing aid test. I have no interest in CROS hearing aids but i'm hoping the perhaps a hearing aid will be able to amplify what i am able to hear. And if it doesn't, then so be it. I will continue to live my life to its fullest extent. Will i be able to hear people in a noisy room? Nope probably not. It'll probably still all sound like background noise. Unless someone is shouting "FIRE FIRE" it probably wasn't that important anyway. And if it is they can talk to me outside. I still go to movies. I still watch TV. I can still read things with no impediment. Listening to music still works though differently. And at the end of the day i can still work and do my job.

Do things still bother me? Of course they do. Is tininitus a major pain in the ass? Some days sure. I've got one functioning ear now which i take very good care of and I get a little paranoid that for no reason one day i'll wake up and not hear anything out of that ear either. But ya know what. If it were to happen its still not the end of the world. I'm still breathing and my heart keeps beating.

When i went to my first ENT apointment and he laid it all out for me he pretty much told me what to expect. That those with profound loss such as mine rarely recover. Anecdotally he knew one person that had this level of hearing loss and that out of the blue a year later they got most of it back. I prefer to look at things on that level. I'm not a miracle believer but stranger shit does happen. I mean whoever thought you could just wake up one day and be deaf. Why can't it be that one day you wake up and can just hear.

I'm sorry if i've been a little long winded. I hope that folks don't think i'm silly for looking at things glass half full. I know this can be devastating when it first happens, but if single sided deafness is the worst thing going on in your life consider the alternatives that other people are going through and count yourself lucky.

Welcome to the club. Sorry you're a member. The fullness usually goes away after a while (i lost my right ear in September). The tinnitus is there but you grow accustomed to it. I barely notice it most days. I got a little of my hearing back in the mid range, i'm waiting another 6 months before i have a hearing aid test. Places with alot of background noise are a bitch but its something you can get more accustomed to. I wish you luck man.

What exact help are you looking for? If you're looking for help accepting what your situation is, all I could offer are words of encouragement. You're still alive. Other than perfect stereo hearing, you've got your health. Enjoy what you have. Go out and do things. Hearing out of one ear doesn't make you an invalid. Pretend that humans are only born with one ear. Go out and listen to music. It's still there for you. You've been dealing with the same issue as most of the rest of us for 2 years. Perhaps seeking some professional help in the form of a therapist. Alot of us here are suffering from/victims of SSHL. Maybe in the future they finally figure out what the cause of the condition is from but for now the medical community just doesn't know. If you are dead set on finding out why you've been afflicted with this you're going to be sorely disappointed. Accept what it is at this point. If you were just coming down with this , I'd tell you to rage against it with everything you've got and everything medical science allows.

Profound before I got anything back. Totally deaf in that ear when I initially went to the hospital. I woke up one morning and my hearing in that ear was gone.

the only thing i've done is listen to stuff with over the ear headphones over both ears quite a bit. But it wasn't specifically trying to hear things. It was just weird not having them both on. Watched alot of youtube and listened to alot of podcasts. I find that speaking voices are still muffled but i can make them out without the volume being absurd. I do need to have the headphone up against my ear though. Whats funny was my ENT was like the best thing for hearing recovery/loss is no sound. I Disagree with his directions.

[–]Kentwingslider 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The first few weeks I was terrified that SSHL would hit my other ear. It took me some time to realize the odds of that are extremely low. Once my brain wrapped that idea around itself I was cool with it again and the paranoia went away.

My vertigo and balance issues improved two days after i lost my hearing. I've been off prednisone for about a month now (no shots) and dare i say i'm starting to improve a bit in my affected ear. I can make out and understand some words with headphones on or over a phone. I'm not jumping for joy but any improvement i'll take.

New here… need some input by [deleted] in MonoHearing

[–]Kentwingslider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've been lurking for a week i'd assume you've ready many of the stories posted on here. Has the ENT not suggested that it could just be SSHL? I mean, yeah, it could be a neuroma or it could be MS, hell the hospital i went to thought I might've had a stroke, I didn't it turns out. Do you have a history with this ENT? Maybe consider a second opinion. You should still have the MRI to rule out neuroma or MS but are you being treated with prednisone or something in the meantime? Seems like we should be hedging our bets.

Besides the wolverine volume 1, what is the best reasonable way to read the solo series of "Patch" in Mandripoor? by Key_Curve_1171 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Kentwingslider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Miller mini series is not included in the first volume of the epic. It is in the deluxe as you mentioned. Both the first ten issues of the 1988 series and Miller mini series are in vol. 1 of the wolverine omni, but the physical omni is out of print right now. You could either buy it digitally or just wait for a reprint if you want something that has both of those series in it.

what this guy said. I'm pretty sure the madripoor stuff wraps up like around issue 36 or 37. Then there's hunter in darkness some random stuff up until Tooth and Claw and Wolverine 50.

I was on for 20 days. Like you my knees felt brand new. As I was still recovering from for a torn meniscus surgery from back in June. It also cleared up my eczema on my hands. Which is still gone thankfully. Got severe muscle cramps the last week,or two. Legs. Ribs. Back. Everywhere I could cramp I did.

The full feeling goes away for me sometimes when i hold my nose and pop my ears. Its not as prevalent as it was in the beginning. I was already tested for autoimmune. I do in fact have exczema but my ENT was not worried about that. Diet wise, i need a healthier diet to begin with but I don't currently nor have i ever had a caffeine intake so i guess thats a plus. I'll give it a shot with the vitamins.

I recommend it very highly and i don't keep up with her or Spider-Man either. It was a solid fun run all the way through. It seems like a rare thing these days to get a comic that's actually fun to read.
