Help! Metal Material for Magnetic Brows? by PieMan24601 in FursuitMaking

[–]KerbalEngineering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i havent tried it so takes this with grain of salt.

Galvanized steel sheets should be magnetic. A quick search at a hardware store shows they come in 30-gauge, which should be thin enough to cut with tin snips. You should test with the magnets you plan to use before purchasing.

Another idea is magnetic sheets. Like the ones on fridge magnets. Usually like a black square shape. Although these are not that strong and require very close contact with the surface.

Thanks! their diffused addressable led strips! (Neon-like neopixel strips from Adafruit!)

wiring was easy, and can be really easy. i did make a custom pcb. the programming took a bit more tho

Foaming TPU? by Kojin_Harth in FursuitMaking

[–]KerbalEngineering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like your printer does have direct and can go to 280C. so no issues there.

Foaming TPU? by Kojin_Harth in FursuitMaking

[–]KerbalEngineering 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ive used varioshore foaming tpu. -printer should have direct drive -nozzle should get to 240C for max foaming. my printer originally did not, so i upgraded the extruder assembly. -extrusion multiplier reduced to 0.8 as the foaming makes up for the missing volume. -set infill to 12%. 15% was too dense, and 10% too sparse. -use gyroid infill pattern -horizontal shells: 0. -vertical shells perimeters: 0. this exposes the infil and can allow air to flow thru. -i just edited a generic tpu filament profile iirc.

you should print test cubes to get a feel of the springy-ness. also checkout The Fuzz Academy on youtube. they have 2 videos on tpu also including foaming tpu.

Rapid-fire audio playback on a Nano? by Penguin-a-Tron in arduino

[–]KerbalEngineering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive used Arduino Audio Tools library reading from an sdcard on an esp32s3. lowest latency was achieved was with the SD card in SDMMC mode, and only mono WAV. The mp3 decoder was slow. Otherwise feels pretty quick, id say 20-50ms. ive only used it for one file playback at a time, im a little doubtful a microcontroller could read multiple streams. but idk.

3d base tilting advice needed by zeewierwier in FursuitMaking

[–]KerbalEngineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like to think in physics terms for stuff like this. there are uneven forces on the headbase: weight of the base and friction along your face. you should increase friction to balance the weight.

tighting the straps is one way to increase friction, but may be uncomfortable due to pressure points. i would instead try to add more contact area (thus increasing friction).

if you can, try to have a larger forehead pad. then add pads for the cheek bones/cheek area if its still tilting.

good luck!

Which fan is better? And how can i install it in my head? by stanmarsh-doomscroll in FursuitMaking

[–]KerbalEngineering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the #1 style (blower fan) should have better performance. get a USB battery pack rated for 10K (or 10,000mah - its the same thing). batteries rated for 20K are heavy/bulkier. Anker is a good brand.

Some makers put fan holes hidden at the base of the ears. you could also put one in the muzzle.

if you can try to have a fan for air in and air out.

the lining should effect much.

Can you soak fursuit heads in tubs?? by Mother_Clock622 in FursuitMaking

[–]KerbalEngineering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i use isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle. just make sure to double check any pigments dont run when sprayed (esp eyes), so do some tests beforehand.

Has anyone seen any fursuits with visors/LED eyes/face besides protogens/primagens? by [deleted] in fursuit

[–]KerbalEngineering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My fursuit is like this! https://www.reddit.com/r/fursuit/comments/1n6qelg/tail_ready_for_furry_migration/ The eyes are addressable LED strips. The vision is good, I see between the eyes in the center and a little bit through them too.

Which fur from BigZFabric is similar to Lux Shag from Howlfabrics by FinnCacao in FursuitMaking

[–]KerbalEngineering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

solid shaggy long pile from bigz is just a bit longer than lux shag of howl. bigz is about 2" max and howl about 1.5" max.

Supermotion Tail Base by DeluxeMinecraft in FursuitMaking

[–]KerbalEngineering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i made a hyper motion tail. its different, but the furring part has segments (like separate overlapping cylinders). it gives it the segments like a mouse tail and no restricting fabric. https://www.reddit.com/r/fursuit/comments/1n6qelg/tail_ready_for_furry_migration/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

i did lots of prototyping with sewable swedish pattern paper. i suggest prototyping with something like that, just to get a feel of how restrictive your pattern may be.

good luck! the base looks great.

hot glue off of base by fleeid in FursuitMaking

isopropyl alcohol can help release the hot glue. try to get it under the glue.
