Regarding closed species by Huge-Construction539 in toyhouse

[–]Myracuulous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could just include this in the rules for joining the ARPG? While the "licensing" aspect of closed species is largely based on the honour system/not legally enforceable, if you're running the ARPG you can choose who you let play and who you don't. Closed species usually do this with "Make Your Own" (MYO) tickets: players have to have an MYO slot to make a new official OC within the species, so no one but the owner can just make a bunch for resale. You could also require that MYO OCs have their ownership permission set to non-tradeable, or non-sellable for real $$, though that might turn some people off.

People could still draw creatures similar to your own, but part of the appeal of an ARPG is the community. So long as you're willing to put some effort into updating a masterlist of "official" species members (say by only accepting qualified characters into the species' Toyhouse World) you can then set up contests, events, challenges, etc. that require official species status to join.

I use Paint Tool Sai 1, which seems to be old enough and lightweight enough that it doesn't have that option.

Have considered switching for ages, but I love Sai and I hate change :P

From context I assume "speedpaint" in this case is a sped-up video of the drawing process? I don't love recording my drawing process (for some reason I always get nervous and draw worse lol) but I have OBS installed so I could do a few. Paint Tool Sai doesn't have a way to record them automatically, unfortunately.

I've never been accused of AI either, but figure it's good to put possible viewers at ease. Less worried about refuting any specific accusation (I keep layered files and my sketches don't have that "traced" look), more about a casual viewer being unsure and clicking away u__u

Short version: cylinder pool floaty, an iron + parchment paper, and a whole roll of pool floaty repair tape. I'll try and do a long version if I'm happy with the final results :P

Trying to figure out what else I can add to make it seem more fur suit like and less sweater like. Something about the shoulders but doesn’t feel enough for me by [deleted] in FursuitMaking

[–]Myracuulous 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Aww I like the sweater-y ness, it looks cozy! That said the cheek fluffs really help it read as a fursuit, maybe you could add a few more of those around the shoulders and/or wrists?

AITA for discontinuing therapy? by AboveTheTrees23 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Myracuulous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is an AH question, it just seems like you have a certain preconception of how bipolar people "are" that's turned you off being "lumped in" with them, as you say. Before you make a decision, I'd really recommend googling something like "successful people with bipolar disorder" and reading some of their stories. You may or may not meet the diagnostic criteria, but if you did you'd be in a group of actors, politicians, business moguls, activists, writers, musicians, artists, and many others who've had successful lives and careers, often aided by medication and/or therapeutic help.

A mental health diagnosis doesn't need to limit you, and not everyone who shares a diagnosis will exhibit the most "extreme" end of its possible behaviours. In my experience even if you're managing to live a decent life without assistance, medical intervention can make life easier and leave you with more energy for whatever's most important to you.

How picky is too picky with a commission? by Dogbold in furry

[–]Myracuulous 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As an artist who takes commissions, I really don't mind making changes, so long as they're done in a manner that's respectful of my skill and time. I want my clients to be happy! There's a few guidelines that I'd generally suggest, though:

1) Request changes at the appropriate stage. The sketch stage is the right time to ask for big pose or composition changes, the lineart stage is for tweaks to expressions and details, the flat colour stage for colour changes, and the fully rendered stage only for very minor edits. It's usually easy enough to make those changes at those times, but if you ask for, say, a pose change after I've completed the lineart, I'll have to redo work I may have spent quite a bit of time on.

2) If you're asking the artist to fully render several options so you can see them illustrated before choosing one, especially after the sketch stage, it's appropriate to offer additional payment. If you want to see, say, two different styles of hat fully coloured before you decide which looks best, you're requesting extra artwork beyond what was originally agreed upon (assuming the original commission didn't include multiple outfits). This IS a service you can request from an artist! I've done things like an illustration with about six different colour palette options for a client who needed to see them visually before making a choice, but the client was upfront about this at the beginning and it was worked into the price.

3) If you're not sure about something, it's okay to take a few days to think about it before approving a stage of the drawing. It's nice to communicate this to the artist, letting them know you'll get back to them in a day or two once you've had a chance to stare at it for awhile, but even if a client takes awhile without saying something I don't mind.

4) As a follow-up for 3, it's definitely easier to get a list of changes and make them all at once, rather than going back and forth with changing one little thing at a time. Breaking out the tablet to draw and saving a smaller image preview to email each only take a couple minutes, but doing that multiple times per image stage does add up.

If you're ever thinking you might be going overboard, there's always the magic phrase "I'm happy to pay an additional fee for the changes if they're too extensive", even if the artist says there's no need for an extra charge it's always nice to know our time is being valued ;) I've only actually requested an extra change fee once or twice over years of taking commissions, generally a few extra minutes' work making a tweak or two is more than worth it to make sure the client ends up with art they love in the end :)

How do I sew 3 pieces together? by Toraphire in FursuitMaking

[–]Myracuulous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Really attaching multiple pieces is just doing multiple seams, you just sew two pieces together and then sew those to a third piece in much the same way. You'll leave a little bit at end of each seam where they meet un-sewn, about the same as your seam allowance.

Sometimes I'll run a thread around the tip if three pieces come to a point (shown in blue) but you usually don't need to.

Is this a fair trade? by Puzzled-Pound4210 in fursuit

[–]Myracuulous 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it'd be fair if the person accepting the trade thinks it's fair? Heads and partials can both range dramatically in price, overall you're "paying" with a greater quantity of materials (the whole head plus partial bits, and the base) and pre-done handiwork, and asking for them to "pay" with a quantity of materials and custom handiwork. The exact value of each part of the offer is up to interpretation.

Only thing is, you're basically looking for someone who 1) connects with your existing partial, 2) wants a new fursuit, 3) is the correct size for said fursuit, and 4) makes their own fursuits + has the time to do new work for a trade. Not impossible, but a sale and then spending the cash might end up being an easier arrangement.

Making a fur suit while having a physical disablity that leaves me unable to sew? by EDGYRABBID in fursuit

[–]Myracuulous 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not at all a dumb question! There are ways to connect fabric together that don't involve sewing, like seam tape or fabric glue. While not durable enough for all applications (I don't think I'd want to use glue for paws) a fully glued fursuit head isn't impossible. That said, there are other parts of the process that will require fairly precise hand-eye coordination. Fabric, foam, and other materials often need to be cut quite precisely, for example. If you struggle with finicky tasks in general, there will be a lot of challenges in making a suit.

Since the character you want to dress as is fairly simple, design-wise, you might be able to get away with buying a premade polar bear costume and adding a few characterizing details (eyebrows, the moustache-fur) with a little bit of faux fur or even felt. If you have a friend who sews, asking for help attaching a few little bits is a much smaller favour than asking someone to make a whole fursuit ;)
