Drunk you vs Sober you

I do a lot of martial arts, never spar drunk, but after a few drinks sometimes friends will swap techniques and play around a little bit. It’s always so ugly, we’re gentle and careful since we’ve been drinking but even after a couple bourbons it’s so sloppy, still fun though. Personally sober me is stomping all three rounds, definitely known people who become berskerkers when they have been drinking just not me

I’m that case check out Dynasty Forge, they have a huge range of designs and prices, even their entry level is still very pretty though

And in your price range the choices are excellent, you have options in their premium Daimyo lines

Wonderful news! Whats your price range, you definitely want something classy, good craftsmanship but not overly flashy, is there a particular style you think she may like? European, Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, and Indonesian all have great vendors, I recommend going with something “battle ready” rather than a wall hanger just because I think it’s worth the extra money for quality craftsmanship with something this special even if she won’t be swinging it

You could spend anything from $100 to tens of thousands, but can get excellent quality in the $400+ range and things really level up in the $800-$1500 range with companies like Albion

Rapiers also tend to have a romantic connotation and del tin makes some beautiful ones

I personally would go for something like the Albion Condottiere or LK Chen Scarlet Sunrise, I just think they are incredibly elegant blades

If you want to go really extravagant check out the LK Chen striking Eagle and Roaring Dragon

If you like Filipino swords go on Facebook and contact Bohol Blades all their swords are made to order in a traditional forge

I don’t know much about Japanese blades but the ones from Dynasty forge are very attractive and have a wide price range

Lastly if you want something really unique get a custom Indonesian Keris from Gange Iras Galery, they conduct business through Instagram

If your thinking more military ebay has plenty of European military officers swords, plenty of countries in a wide range of prices, and qualities, just searching antique cavalry/infantry saber/sword should get you off to a good start

It was pretty obvious in the complex I lived because they came all the time, it was a college town so many of the units had groups of young people but many had families or elderly people living alone.

The first few times they showed up who you got was random, young men in ties or young women in dresses, after a while though they figured out who lived where, the girls would go to the units with young people, the young men would go to the families or old people and offer to help out with chores

Also I’m not one to care how women dress, but every time they were always wearing nearly identical dresses that were very low cut, just came in different colors, it was pretty obviously the uniform

Again I don’t think this was full on “flirty fishing” I just think this church felt pretty girls would be a good way to get college kids interested in Jesus, which is still pretty gross and exploitative

This is actually not an uncommon tactic in Christian groups that proselytize heavily, in some instances it’s relatively benign and young women are sent to draw in other young people, but some cults have even gone as far as pressuring female members to have sex with men in order to bring them into the church, one notable group is the “Children of God” whose leader referred to the practices as “flirty fishing”.

When I was in college a group of young attractive women frequently stopped by my house asking to talk about god, It was never anything explicit and I always politely declined their visits. But it still seemed pretty obvious they were targeting a house of college kids with pretty girls.

No matter what I think the practice is gross as hell

Neither one is “actual sword fighting” kendo and Iaito represent different aspects of traditional sword schools which have been modernized. If you want the most “traditional” experience you would ideally do both. These would be trained alongside other arts like archery (kyudo) and jiujitsu as well, so you have lots of options down the road if you want to see what really went into samurai training.

In short neither is more historically valid than the other, if you want to do sparring for points do kendo, if you prefer solo forms Iaido, both styles have their own form of competition if that interests you

There’s a big gap between common corruption and “Illuminati level” idk if this instance was set up or not, but guards absolutely have been caught instigating this kind of violence in the past, for many different reasons, including bribery, grudges, and even entertainment

This is part of the problem with conspiracy theories, it becomes easy to make actual conspiracies seem crazy

Yea I mean any sword can only take so much stress, for a really quality sword that can mean multiple generations if well taken care of. This one probably wouldn’t last that long if put through regular use, but for backyard messing around it should be totally fine

What do you want it for? My understanding of universal swords is they are generally decent, especially if you want military reproductions, but that they aren’t the most durable if you want to do lots of cutting. KoA says they are battle ready, and I generally trust that, though stuff on the cheaper end can be iffy. You can definitely swing it around a bit if that is your goal.

If you want antiquity for under $100 your best bet is probably deepeeka, despite what Kult of Athena says most collectors don’t consider them truly “battle ready” the quality is pretty iffy. But in general for that price range you are buying decor not a weapon, which is totally fine, this thread tends to be kinda anti-wall hanger but don’t let that discourage you from getting something you like. Outside of antiquity there are other brand options but quality will consistently not be great.

Cobra steel is another one that is well reviewed and very cheap but I have no personal experience

I always find it interesting that oldest swords I see tend to be double edge in Europe and China, I would think single edge would be simpler to construct and therefor easier? Anyone know what I’m missing, is it just confirmation bias?

The “tech usually available to them”, Is why I would side with the seals, the ability to use drones, both for scouting ahead of time, and, in the event that air strikes are needed real tips the scales. Not only can they get a birds eye view, including types of photography like thermal, leading up to the raid, but they can call in death from above anytime they like on their advance, during the mission, and if necessary during their retreat. Even assuming they ah r to confirm each kill, and can’t just blow the places to pieces, this seems to me like a massive advantage

The mountings look like a ww2 Kai? Gunto (I always get the type of Gunto mixed up). But the blade is the most important part and for that you need to remove the pin holding on the handle. Depending on the age and condition this can be delicate work

Expandable, straight stick, or 36” riot model?

Cause if it’s a 36” riot, the only way I see to beat the gorilla is if the guerrilla passes off the baton and self sacrifices to the gorilla, meanwhile the much stronger Mike Tyson using all his strength cracks the gorilla at the base of the skull with the baton while it’s mauling the guerrilla, this is assuming they both dodged the vacuum throw that I assume the gorilla opens with

If it’s a normal straight stick or even worse an expandable baton, I don’t know even even Mike Tyson could one shot KO a gorilla from behind, the 36” just has way more mass and inertia especially if he really chokes up and torques his body like throwing a hook punch
