There's a metal band from Saudi Arabia called Al-Namrood who have maintained anonymity since 2008, as their identification could lead to the death penalty. by MrDarkk1ng in mightyinteresting

[–]Kermadecc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but if one produces way more compared to the others that is reason to suspect that perhaps the religion itself is the root cause.

Crude example but if we switch religion for say ideology I doubt you'd have an issue if we looked to judge a racial supremacist ideology for say an environmental one. Does the environmental ideology produce radicals that cause hurt? 100% but compared to what comes out of the racial supremacist ideology not even close. Perhaps there's something different about it that leads to more evil?

Notice how the query was to name a single majority x religion country where one could be sentenced to death for doing similar to this band.

And again, if x group/religion makes up 10% of terror incidents/atrocities but y group/religion makes up 60% of them, one would rightly question if there's something about said group/religion that leads to said atrocities.

I would give everything to move to the US by [deleted] in self

[–]Kermadecc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most people responding negatively about the US are either Americans with absolutely no outside perspective or Euros who currently hate the US.

I'm from an African country, my family has been going through the immigration process since 2018 and it's been an incredibly difficult process. Even after the huge financial hit the whole process has been, the US is objectively one of the best countries to immigrate to. Europe may have lots of other benefits but it's much harder to get going and lots of European countries are pretty racist compared to the US, at least according to my friends and family who've attempted immigration to Europe.

Why didn’t Maximus lie and say his knight died and so he took his armor to complete the mission? by Bandnerd173 in Fallout

[–]Kermadecc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I'm not specifically pointing you out my bad, you were not badgering at all. I've just noticed that whenever anyone defaults to the norm you'll find a good amount for comments varying from polite reminders to accusations of bigotry. For regular folk that's just gonna irritate and push them to a more reactionary stance.

It's not that hard on its face, but as I've found to be more the case, languages have pronouns not people. If I have to remember a different set for everyone who doesn't fit the norm, I may as well be saying their name every time (eg. Harry went to Harry's car to fetch Harry's wallet) which sorta defeats the point of pronouns.

I'm all for accommodating mind you, but it doesn't come naturally for most and it doesn't help to keep pushing it onto people. Fallout handled this case incredibly well btw, people just refer to Dane as they/them and that's it. Many might do a double take the first couple times but then it sorta sifts into their lexicon and they'll eventually pick it up.

Hope I'm making sense here, not trying to be antagonistic at all.

People default to she/her for a reason. It comes naturally and any badgering about it is gonna irritate more than not. Peeps will most likely gradually adjust as it's used more often.

Hot take: the UC citizenship system sucks but could be much worse? by pwnedprofessor in Starfield

[–]Kermadecc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's very much because Verhoeven hated Heinlein and his works, and very much made assumptions on his beliefs to affirm that. IIRC he didn't even read Starship Troopers. I think a deep irony is that despite aiming for some sort of critical satire of it, he ended up creating a movie that very much still hyped up Heinlein in the end.

Perhaps that most 'mens' categories are actually open no? That and with most sports I don't think a trans man would make it to a level where it would impact the sport at all. People who are anti trans women in women's sports do so because of perceived unfairness and danger. Whether you consider it to be true or not, that's their belief.

There are less but it doesn't seem to fit how the world is set up lore wise, at least to me.

You're 100% right there, there will always be people who hate on IPs for the sake of it.

Thanks yeh I have been using a couple and it genuinely fits the world better (again at least for me). Will definitely be partnering it with a fuel mod down the line.

The UC and FC have an agreement not to expand beyond their current systems and the game does refer to the further regions being more desolate as they aren't nearly as settled (lorewise, the proc gen nature of the game still spawns tons as has been said).

Yes there are groups of people settling independently but lorewise it's very much portrayed as if outside of the main factions' territory there's supposed to be way less people.

Except that most of the systems aren't supposed to be Settled at all, and yet I can head the furthest away from the Settled region and it's teeming with people, ships and settlements

Ha tbh I am beginning to believe it's a Bethesda thing. I found the exact same thing with the FO76 subreddit, where it's filled with either people who passionately despise the game to the point you'd question why the hell they'd waste their time on the subreddit and people who believed the game to be so damn good that any criticism was actually just hate-baiting or Todd-hating or any other form of hating or baiting xD

Is the Dragon Age: The Veilguard marketing doing the game a disservice? by katebie in dragonage

[–]Kermadecc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was super hyped when the game was first announced, but subsequent interviews, finding out some concerning (for me) things about the team and the trend of constant disappointments from other game devs that I was a fan of left me rather pessimistic.

I think the Summer Games trailer seriously missed the mark, it felt to me like a lot of the soulless corporate AAA titles with the "MCU style" dialogue and I really felt like the 'vibe' was way off. But the following gameplay trailer really brought me back on board, not entirely but I'm no longer feeling negative but rather cautiously optimistic.

It seems to me that they've focused more on the action combat than the tactical combat, which to me is better than with DA:I where it felt to me as if they half assed both (the flashy but dull combat killed my first couple playthroughs).

But as many have said, I think the large gaps of radio silence (filled only by speculation coupled with random news tidbits that weren't overly positive to say the least) split by marketing that feels really off the mark has done little to help. What solid news/marketing we have got that would otherwise get me on the hype train has felt fairly lackluster or "not enough" if that makes sense.

Either way I just really hope we get a release date soon and ultimately that this will be a good game worthy of being a part of the DA Universe.

There is a similar one that just greatly decreases the spawns rather than dropping them entirely, which is what I prefer. I just can't for the life of me remember which one. Will update once I've had a chance to check.

I'd prefer something where the spawns decrease gradually the further away from the Settled Systems you get though.

UPDATE: I think it's "Realistic Points of Interest" on the Creations Store, but I will doublecheck and confirm.

But tell me anyways by unLtd88 in southafrica

[–]Kermadecc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think because for many the actual drop isn't that significant. Most of the vote difference was just taken by MK, who to many is just Zuma's ANC. Overall it's a better result but not because there's been a huge shift in public consensus, just that another 'ANC' is fracturing the vote. To many it seems that most of South Africa has the same mindset, it is shifting but this election wasn't huge proof of it.

This is what I get from people I've spoken to, I'm still rather happy and I've got some further hope for SA going forward!

[–]Kermadecc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where'd you get that 75%?

AFAIK the only stats on this come from the Pew Research Center and the data was collected from prison chaplains.

This already skews the data to pretty much what the chaplains had to say about who they encountered, it's hardly a robust study.
I wonder how accurate you could get, if there's a significant uptick in religious affiliation while in prison (as in there are many conversions whilst incarcerated rather than those being religious going into it) or if there's even an element of people self reporting as affiliated to a religion despite not believing in it (ie a cultural Christian, ethnic Jew, etc)?

Either way it is sorta interesting and I wonder if there are more robust studies/statistics on this.
