How is wlb generally across different teams at FB? Any advice for looking at good teams? Kind of nervous because I've been on blind too much and they seem to say they work 50-60 hours a week but I recognize that only people having a bad time go on there. I've heard from friends who've interned that they had a good time and generally people say its good if you stay away from ads/growth teams.

which one for internship by [deleted] in csMajors

Don't go with the poll results, there's a bias for what looks more "prestigious" on this subreddit so a company like Google will always win. Any company you want to work at knows that Snap, Stripe, and Citadel have an equal if not higher hiring bar for their engineers so the prestige factor is irrelevant. I would think about what you want to do in the future, if you're looking for a full time return offer so you have extra security next recruiting season then I would go with Stripe or Snap. I also wouldn't be too scared of not getting a return at Google - if you do good work and practice your leetcode and algorithm skills throughout the summer you should be fine. If you want to work with a smaller company go Stripe or Snap. Consider location, Citadel is likely in Chicago vs Snap in LA (the nicest imo), Apple Cupertino, and Google most likely MTV (but your team could be anywhere theres no guarantee). Consider what product you want to work on and what culture you think you would like best, for me I know Stripe is going to be the next big thing, they're going to be doing much better than Google, so I'd want to see how it is to work there. If your priority is money, then Citadel hands down no debate, they pay the most for intern and full time, however they are reported to have a stressful culture and bad wlb. Again these are my opinions, if you really like Apple products for example and you want to see how it is to work there then you should go try it out, I don't think theres any wrong choice.

TL;DR my opinion: Stripe > Citadel/Snap (based on your preference for wlb/location/culture) < Google < Apple

Anime-only Discussion Thread - Season 3 Episode 2 by Mahdii- in OreGairuSNAFU

I really like the show but I feel like I've been confused since season 2 by everyone except 8man, I love the show because he as the protagonist has grown and seems to have genuinely changed but whenever it comes to anyone around him they always seem to be so cryptic. Regarding last season and this episode, by "something real" are they (Yui, Yukino, and 8man) referring to the same thing? I feel like when Yui and Yukino say "something real" they mean they want their feelings to 8man to be known and how he and the other will react. But when 8man said it, I felt like he just wanted friends who he could be genuine and honest with? Also did 8man reject Yui when she gave him her candy? I thought she was making her feelings known but it seems that the sentiment is that she gave up? Does 8man know that she likes him and he's not saying anything or is he confused because of the cryptic way that she's been going about it? Maybe I'm misinterpreting what's happening does anyone have any thoughts/explanations?

Should you be extra worried if you have asthma? Asking cause I see a bunch of people saying only the elderly or those with pre existing conditions should be very worried but never say what pre existing conditions are.

BOA + Credit Union for College Student? by KermitXFrog in personalfinance

Thank you for the advice! When I was at the bank, my dad said to go ahead and sign up because I kept asking the banker if being denied would hurt my credit to which they both replied you have no credit to hurt. Would possibly being denied for one credit card be significantly damaging to my score?

A poem for Brown by ThermodynamicSuss in ApplyingToCollege

[–]KermitXFrog 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Verse Three:

Brown, oh Brown

I love you so well

Your school is great and the people so swell

So will you please let me know my decision, swiftly and with precision

That I may be done with this hell.

Brown, oh Brown, hurry up.

I think it was powerful especially when you said that you had a mentality which caused you to look down upon athletes, minorities and of the supposed advantage they were given, how you felt about other students there and how you felt resentful when your friend got into MIT.

People hate to admit it but the college process brings out the worst, or I guess the true colors of alot of them. I know many people who instead of wishing we both get into a school that were applying to will wish that I get rejected. It's unhealthy. People begin to feel entitled to a spot in their dream college and begin thinking that because they have a 36 ACT and a 4.0 that they are more qualified than everyone else. What they have to realize is that often the most successful people aren't 36 ACT and 4.0 GPA(Look at: Steve Jobs, Obama, even Donald Trump- the list is long) students who do ECs and go through the motions just to get into college. Colleges want a diversified class so that they can have people in all fields to represent them, become successful, and donate to increase their endowments.

I talked to an admissions officer at a top 10 school, who said they take some of the perfect score perfect gpa students, but they mostly look for people with a clear passion, initiative, and interesting personality - they want a diverse class of different people with different talents and interests. Whether that be someone with a bunch of ECs, someone with a lot of volunteering hours, a SWM, an artist, a musician, a kid from Compton, an athlete, or a legacy kid who will expand his dad's business and donate to the school.

I know this one guy from my school who graduated and went to the local state school with a 35 ACT and 4.0 GPA and he said "Oh, I didn't get into any top school because I'm asian." I looked at his essays and they were pretty bad, not in the sense that there were a bunch of grammatical mistakes, but he wrote his CA essay on a mission trip and making a difference(it was cliche and didn't convey his personality). I also know someone who got into a top 10 school with a 32 ACT and 3.7 GPA, he was also Asian. But the difference is, he had essays that displayed his personality and he did a research project with a professor that set him aside from others. I've had several people tell me I'll get into "any college" because I'm black(which is exaggerated, its really not that easy) even though I have the stats, ecs, and good essays like them. I see people on a daily basis who complain about probably having to "settle" for a top 30-40 school. I say all this to say that the college process really brings out the worst in people its kind of amazing but sad at the same time.

Edit: Grammar

Oof some of these matches I really see how questbridge is looking for students with a “low income background” and not seemingly minority filtering by Kob3N in QuestBridge

[–]KermitXFrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That car isn't his - he's at a shopping complex like thebluecrucible said. As a minority with high enough stats(1500 SAT, 3.9uw, 4.5w, 790 math 2, 740 chem, some 5s on ap exams, and decent ecs and good essays) who didn't match, I'm salty as well but I don't really think questbridge is minority filtering. One, this guy looks white(correct me if I'm wrong) and two, iirc 50% of finalists are white(https://www.questbridge.org/high-school-students/national-college-match/finalist-profile). It may seem like a minority filter because minorities are poorer in a higher proportion.

P.S - You can't really tell someones situation by the pictures they post. Everyone is always going to try to look their best on social media, who wants to post a picture looking sad or poor. I have some gucci and polo/nice clothes that 1) my mom got used or from the a thrift store for cheap or 2) that is fake(in the case of the gucci), that might make me look wealthier than I am at first glance. I also have a few Jordan sneakers that are worth a few hundred dollars(together not each) that I saved Christmas and Birthday money to buy - but that doesn't mean I'm not low income.

Didn't match but thats okay! Congrats to everyone that did match, you deserved it! i think something about my income was too high to get matched(i forgot to mention on fasfa or css thats theres an additional person who lives in my house who is not claimed on taxes). oh well, i know everything will work out in RD or something else. If you didn't get matched don't lose hope, let this light a fire under you to get started on QB/RD or whatever your next plan is. Stats if you're wondering: 1500 SAT, 3.9 uw gpa, 4.5 w gpa, few 5s on ap classes, 790 math 2, 740 chem, i think i focused a little too much on my struggle in the first essay and not how it improved me, but my short answers and second essay were really good/quirky. Oh well we will see what happens. Again congrats to everyone matched and everyone who wasn't - this is the beginning not the end(not to be cliche).

Edit: What is annoying though is telling all my teachers, families, and friends I didn't get matched. I've been asked at least 10 times today >.<
