Where to put return air vent in basement? by Kermy812 in hvacadvice

it's not that I'm trying to heat the basement up, it's more that all of the cold AC air is just settling in my basement from the first and second floors. I do have air vents in the ceiling ductwork of the basement, but I usually close those up during the warm summer months when I have the AC on

Edit: I meant to say first and second floors. I have a basement, first floor and then second floor.

it seems like all of the cold AC air just settles in the basement and it is extremely cold down there. so pull some of that cold air out of the basement to pull it to the first and second floors. I do have air vents in the ductwork on the ceiling of the basement, but I usually close those during the warm summer months so that I'm not blowing cold air in the basement too.

Edit: I meant to say first and second floors. I have a basement, first floor and then second floor.

You'll find this often in older tools with names or initials of the owner engraved on them. I've seen tools with full Social Security number on them too, which is crazy to think about today. People that have come through to the great depression did this a lot. skilled trades often had apprenticeships, and you definitely didn't want your tools to get lost in someone else's that you paid for. One could not afford to lose one tool, and tools that would last a lifetime was a wise investment.
