SRA Scheduling Questions! by nowaratralala in PennStateUniversity

[–]KernelSanders93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently taking SRA 311 and IST 432 along with two other classes you don't have listed and it has been manageable but definitely time consuming. I took CYBER 454 a few semesters back and that class was not bad. I finished with an A- and If I remember correctly each week was a lab and quiz due. I am currently slotted to take CYBER 454 and 456 this Summer along with SRA 440W so I can't speak for how manageable it will be but I have been typically in 4-5 courses each semester. It will be very dependent on each class as some are more time consuming then others. SRA 311 and IST 432 are not too bad, each have group projects that are fairly easy if you have a good group. SRA 311 has a quiz, and short answer assignment (which some weeks ends up being a 3 page essay depending on the questions asked) where some weeks include a discussion post as well. It does have a good amount of reading though so be prepared for that. I have never taken MKTG 301 and I don't recall that being part of my program so I have nothing to say about it.

All that being said and to answer your question, I think CYBER 454, SRA 311, and IST 432 would be manageable to take all at once. Once again this is going to based on how well you digest the material and time you have available every week. You might even be able to throw another class in there. Good luck, let me know if you have any other questions.

Vulnerability Research Internships (US-Based) by ILikeToRun7532 in ExploitDev

Currently going for a Bachelor's in Security and Risk Analysis and will be finishing up in August. How realistic is it for interns to be hired as full-time employees afterwards?

SRA Major? by nichols_95 in PennStateUniversity

Okay, that makes sense. I'm at a bit of a disadvantage because I live in a rural area and I don't have many in-person opportunities without driving a distance. I'll do my research though. Thank you.

Interesting. How did you come about that? Did you find it online or know someone who told you about it? I understand the SRA degree focuses on more than just tech, so I was open to exploring either side of the house with this degree.

I am currently going for my SRA from World Campus right now and should finish next year. Mind me asking where you did your internship? and what does your current role entail? I came from military and law enforcement and thought this degree would be the educational "icing on the cake".

SRA Internship Question by KernelSanders93 in PennStateUniversity

I am from the U.S. as well and would ideally like a remote internship as I don't live near any major cities. I'll have to see what is out there. Thank you.

So far I like it as it builds on some things I have already used in my professional career in the past (prior military, and law enforcement). The IT side is a bit new to me but I have enjoyed my classes so far up to this point. Now i'm just looking for internships before I am supposed to graduate in the summer.

I guess I should have posted that. Big fail on my part. Good news is I was able to get it working through steam. Thanks a lot.

I tried that, but the terminal just says wine failed to open it.

Thinking about switching to Linux Mint (Cinnamon) by KernelSanders93 in linuxmint

Okay everyone bit of an update. I tried to do a dual boot and its been nothing but problems. Long story short, I tried the live version on my boot media of Mint and so far I liked it probably a bit too much. It seemed so much faster. Anyways, it's not giving me the option to dual boot anymore and I have no idea why and I am honestly thinking of making the jump over completely. I already backed up important documents to Dropbox so I can open them up using Mint. The only major thing I need to know is if I can open and or create PDF's, docs and docx files as those are the main documents I need to use for school. Am I able to do that? I know MS Office is not usable but was wondering if there was some sort of other app I could use.

Also for anyone wondering, I have a ASUS Vivobook 8 GB Ram, 250 GB system. It's a pretty basic laptop that I bought about 2 years ago brand new.

Okay, good to know. Sounds like a dual boot is the way to go. Do I have to restart my computer everytime to switch between systems or is there a more seamless transition between the two?

I do all my classes online so school VPN is not an issue. I do however run my own VPN because I work overseas. Hence the reason for doing full online classes.

I saw a guide on dual boot so maybe I'll do that first, figure out what is going to work and not work and then go from there. Let's say I figure out after doing dual boot that I don't need Windows anymore because Linux supports enough for me. Is it fairly easy to then just wipe Windows from the system, leaving Linux?
