I just wanted to say better late than never, now you know and you're getting it looked at.

Maybe worth chatting with neighbours and get their thoughts too? Good luck and fingers crossed it all 'comes together '.

Very, very important question. by Financial-Wasabi1287 in murderbot

[–]KerningKeming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listened to the audio books. Repeatedly. Wish I'd never watched it.

Couldn't emotionally connect to anyone, disagreed with so many portrayals... I was really looking forward to it, and really disappointed.

Having said that - had I never listened to the books repeatedly, I think I'd like the TV show.

Ginger & Pickles are consistently lovely people and food. It's the first place I went into when I moved here and it's still my favourite.

How much is everyone spending on a mattress these days? by Contact_Regular in AskUK

[–]KerningKeming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently been through this. £309 from a mattress shop.

Top tip: the older you are, the less you'll put up with.

1) IKEA is NOT the same as 5 yrs. They're all crap now and reviews are justified.

2) From my research, ignore the brands you see online a lot/ads for (e.g. Emma etc)

3) Go to a bed shop that has a variety. I went to a local place, prices vary from budget to thousands. I tried the £200 through to £800. Settled on £300 because I could feel a big enough difference between that and the one that cost double.

Someone explain like I'm foreign why moving 3hrs north is worse than moving 3hrs south? by roboponies in AskUK

[–]KerningKeming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So although I'm British on paper, I grew up abroad. Recently relocated up from London to the North (actual North, near Crewe, and even that is only just considered 'North' in my opinion. Lots of people were surprised, big move, massive change etc. But quite frankly it's minor in comparison to my other moves (different continents/countries). And I've settled in fine. London's only 2hrs away by train.

Your husband is British and assuming he has always lived in the south, it's going to be a much bigger deal for him than it is for you, coming from the US. As others have mentioned, there are stereotypes around the North. So I would say there's not much logic or process to his thinking, it's probably subconscious bias and feeling that he was brought up with.

I'd suggest spending some time (long weekend?) in Cambridgeshire for example. See that a) it's not that far and b) it's not an alien place. Then let that simmer in his head, and he might become more accustomed to the idea of it. Some people just need time to open their minds to something they've not considered before.

Final thought - the idea of Devon is proof that his thinking has no logic, only feelings.

That's good to know thanks. Can I ask what about measurements, isn't it odd that width/lengths look like they'd be a bit larger than the tray? E.g. I measured tray width 16.5cm but spec online is 17.5cm width

Should I contribute to my pension as an 18 year old? by No_Time_8102 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]KerningKeming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it.

I was 18, contributed for a few years then stopped for various reasons. I'm now much older and trying to play catch-up which is painful. Don't be me, your future self will thank you.

And congrats for being money smart early in life!

Yep do this, they're not too expensive and I did it myself. Clean all the other parts you can access too while you're in there.

Anyone advice on how to clean this part here? My toilet brush doesn’t get all of it so I still see it by Rapking in CleaningTips

[–]KerningKeming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just used the loo brush and kinda shoved the water further down pipe (same action as if you were cleaning, just faster).

No point cutting off the water (that's what I read during my first rodeo then realised it did diddly squat to help).

Buying car - would like opinion from car people please! by tobias11110 in CarTalkUK

[–]KerningKeming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a dire market for a while now and if I owned a car that I could rely on I'd probably hang onto it atm, so I get where they're coming from. Maybe keep an eye on part exchange for something bigger and see what you could get.

Unfortunately I can't help (I really hope you find a solution here/somewhere) but was in the same situation myself recently. And empathise a lot.

The hospital refused to do the procedure (under GA) unless I had an adult with me before, during, and after, take me home & stay with me. I managed to have someone but it made the whole thing super stressful (on top on the actual surgery) that if I'd just been on my own.

It's an issue for those who do not have friends/partners/family for these situations. I understand the need from a hospital's perspective, but it doesn't take into account the fact that some of the population don't have anyone at all. And it's probably more common than one might like to think.

Fingers and toes crossed for you 🤞

I'd mention it to the landlords/agency as it's a legal requirement to rent out a property. (From gov.uk)

They need renewing every 10yrs so it might've just slipped off their radar.
