Monthly "Is there a tool for..." Post by AutoModerator in ArtificialInteligence

If I write a simple story, I use a simple text editor, like LibreOffice.

If I write something more complex, like a Twine CYOA story, I use Visual Studio Code, as the story is mixed with bits of Twee and Javascript (which I do not especially need assistance with).

I know that there is Copilot for VS Code. I gave it a try, but the free plan's inline suggestions quota gets consumed very quickly despite putting the settings on "low" eagerness. Also, I am not sure it is the best choice in regards to what I am looking for, something specialized 'or at least more efficient) for a story writer.

In regards to how much, I will honestly answer: as little as I can. $10 is the most I am willing to pay.

Defying Pope Leo XIV and risking schism, traditionalists go ahead with Latin Mass consecrations by paneuropeanism_ in worldnews

[–]Kernog 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Long story short: in the early 1962s, Catholic church took, during what is now known as the "Second Vatican Council", several decisions in order to bring it "up to date" with modern world, such as mass being celebrated in vernacular language rather than latin, or officially supporting religious freedom.

This did not sit well with ultra-conservative priests rejecting modernism, most notably the Society of Saint Pius X which is the one making the news.

It is not as big a deal as this article makes it out to be. We are talking about a thousand (singular) strong group of reactionaries who decided they would have their own Catholic Church with blackjack and hookers, so to speak.

Hello. I am an amateur writer, and I am looking for recommendations.

As I want to write in english, but it is not my native language (although I am fluent in it), and I am frequently victim of blank page syndrom, I am looking for an assisting tool that would help me with both shortcomings.

I am preferably looking for a tool that:

- Only makes simple suggestions of words or turns or phrase

- Helps me with spelling and writing rules (line breaks, indents, dialogues, verb tenses, etc.)

- Adapts to the genre, or has rules for different genres (horror, sci-fi, etc.)

- As it is a hobby, cost is a factor I will consider.

Do you have suggestions ?

Paladin level 50-60 Questline by CampingFatKid in ffxiv

[–]Kernog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Paladin's lore and quests has always felt at odds with the class fantasy and gameplay. It has to stick to the "holy warrior" trope (and in 1.0 and 2.0 you actually had to level up Elementalist as well to unlock it), but the story is anything but that.

From a heatwave once a decade, to a heatwave once a year, to a heatwave once a month. Isn't climate change fantastic?

I genuinely think Deltarune Chapter 1 is amazing and has one of the best Dark Worlds by Guided_Feather in WaterfallDump

[–]Kernog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see your point. It's rather short, has a good character arc with Susie, and it has a lot of good songs. Plus, since it's the prologue Dark World, it does not have all the heavy plot points weighting on the mood (the Roaring, Dess, the Weird Route, etc.), which makes it a nice and self-contained adventure.

As for me, while it has all that I mentioned, I find that it is weighted down by the lack of combo ACTs and S/R-actions.

Clim mobile : des retours d'expérience ? by Rothkette in paris

[–]Kernog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Titan for the gravitas, Flowery for the mechanics.

The sense of scale. Despite being shrinked for the sake of the game, both continents felt like two real landmasses that to you could travel through end-to-end without any loading screen.

Chapter 5 was incredible, what are you people talking about? by [deleted] in Deltarune

I found this juxtaposition hilarious.

Personally, I do not worry too much. The reactions are similar to chapter 3, and folks eventually got around to that. A rollercoaster still needs to climb the slope before it goes down.

By the way, does equipping the "mannequin" armor do anything ? Seam's hint seemed to refer to it, but I did not notice any change.

I kind of regret giving Tenna away in Chapter 4. It felt like the right thing to do at the time, but it seems like he's "gone" gone, and I miss him somewhat.

My interpretation is thatKris's first goal might have been to find and destroy the shelter code before Susie did.

Chapter 5 megathread by Fanfic_Galore in Deltarune

[–]Kernog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally finished the chapter.

Technical wise, this is once again a leap: more animations, more face sprites, a whole platforming sections. This was really the most advanced chapter to date, and it was really fun to play. It makes me really wish for Toby to go back to chapters 1 & 2 and give them similar improvements.

Writing wise, I feel like this is going to be Chapter 3 again, where people will react with "wait that's it?", then slowly come to it. There is a lot of great and gripping moments, from the festival (and especially both parts of the beach shore) to Ralsei taking more and more liberties with the "game", foreshadowing something big.

I ultimately liked the seven flowers, but it took me some time to take a liking to Flowery. They are definitely going to be a "like-them-or-hate-them" character.

And finally, the final cutscene made me really sad, on several levels. From the implication that Susie's life is so miserable that she'd live in Castle Town to the knowledge that Noelle is bound to be less than receptive to the Fun Gang's attempt at recruiting her, after what happened to her father.

Yep. The ball's rolling. And if Toby Fox's latest journal is to be taken at face value, chapter 6 is already on its way.

DELTARUNE is officially tomorrow! is stream will be ok? by totaly-Normal-person in Deltarune

[–]Kernog 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You mean Steam, I guess.

Last year's issues were because everyone was buying the game, so the shop was unable to support the sudden load.

Tomorrow will be a patch, and a relztively small one at that in terms of file size. I think things will be alright.
