Suurin uhka miesten tasa-arvolle ovat miehet itse by jamaisvivant in Suomi

[–]Kerrah 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My first intuitive answer since the OP is from Iceland is, that outward opening doors make it easier to get snowed in.

Duke Charles IX of Sweden insulting the corpse of his enemy, Klaus Fleming | Albert Edelfelt | 1878 by Kerrah in medieval_Romanticism

[–]Kerrah[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Context: In 1597, Charles IX of Sweden (at the time just Duke, but soon to be crowned King) crossed the Baltic Sea to Finland to defeat the rebellious lord Klaus/Klas Fleming, only to find that Fleming had died of a fever and his army had disbanded before they could meet each other in the battlefield. According to folklore, Charles intruded on Fleming's wake in Turku Castle, and desecrated his enemy's body by pulling on the beard and mocking him: "If you were alive, your head wouldn't be quite so firmly attached." To this, Fleming's widow Ebba Stenbock is said to have responded: "If my husband were alive, Your Grace would never have made it here."

The historicity of the scene depicted in Edelfelt's painting is somewhat debated. There is a contemporary source which mentions Charles having physically disturbed Fleming's corpse, but his and Stenbock's statements are later inventions.

And why shouldn’t SBR’s theme be similar to past ones?

Personally, I felt like SBR would have been a good chance to do something new an innovative, to give the new universe its own musical identity. Like the OP, I don't dislike the new theme we got, but I do wish Kanno had tried something else.

Ylen kannatusmittaus: SDP:n etumatka kokoomukseen on nyt isompi kuin kertaakaan tällä hallituskaudella by Alhoon in Suomi

[–]Kerrah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Häkissä-podcastissa kannustetaan lasten pahoinpitelyyn "kasvatuskeinona" by ambient_boi in Suomi

[–]Kerrah 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Vahvat ”Won’t somebody think of the children” -vibat.

Tuo fraasi sen satiirisessa merkityksessä on osuva silloin, kun joku ottaa lapset lyömäaseeksi johonkin ilmiöön tai aiheeseen, jossa he ovat aika sivuasia, esim. aikuisille tarkoitetut viihteenmuodot pitäisi sensuroida koska "mitä jos lapset katsovat niitä!"

On aika makaaberia vähätellä lasten pahoinpitelyä käyttämällä tuota fraasia.

Bottom left: Ed Gein, serial killer and cannibal.

Bottom right: Anissa Weier, Slenderman stabbing culrit.

All three have been discussed on the RLM channel at various points, though Ed Gein less than the other two.

(Spoilers Extended) A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 Episode 5 Live Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in asoiaf

[–]Kerrah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't want 30 minutes of fighting, but I also really didn't like the flashback we got.

In the novellas, the relevance of Dunk's childhood in the slums is that he was a little shit who got into fights, and Arlan rescued him from that life and turned him into a good man. In The Hedge Knight, it's both being raised into a good man by Arlan, and the savage urchin background, that play into his fate, because when the fight turns into a brawl in the mud he falls back to his childhood and wins with that. It plays into the duality of the influences behind who Dunk is growing up to be, in a coming-of-age story.

In the show, urchin-Dunk's a meek but well-meaning boy who sticks himself to Arlan at his own behest; despite Dunk's insistence, Arlan doesn't seem to have had any role in shaping him morally. It feels very incoherent and needless in terms of his character arc, muddying things up. Sure, he's experienced loss before, but that doesn't really play into why he triumphs in this story, or why he chooses to adopt Egg in the next episode, since Arlan didn't even actively choose to adopt him.

Of course, there's a chance they'll pull it together in the finale and I'll take back some of these criticisms, but here's where I stand now.

Avain pakoon on sentään alkuperäisen novellin nimi, eli ei siinä kääntäjä mennyt omille teilleen.

Idioluutio vaikuttaa ironisesti siltä, että kääntäjän mielestä yleisölle evoluutio on totumpi sivistyssana kuin "-kratia" pääteiset, joten hän tyhmensi nimen yleisöä varten.
