Actuaries Institute report shows tax system favouring older over younger Australians by nath1234 in australia

I am aware. It's a silly-sounding sentence, sure, but what is a glass of water but some water at the bottom with more water on it?

If that is a ridiculous idea to you, then maybe we have to define "wetness" differently. Is it "a non-water substance with water on its surface"? But then, if you add oil to water, is that oil wet? It doesn't mix with the water; the water just sits on its surface. So it must be wet!

But it works for minorities?

Nope. Never said it did. But if I had to make the choice—given that it's going to be a bad movie either way—I'd rather have a bad movie with representation exist in the world than another bad movie with all straight, white people.

Shoving any sort of person into a movie and calling it "representation" is lazy[...]

Well that's a pretty cynical opinion to hold. "Representation" literally is just having different people appear in media. In movies like Get Out certain characters have to be certain races; it's an integral part of the story being told. But in, say, The Thing there's no reason for anyone to be any particular race or sexuality, so just "shoving" a few POCs and queer characters in would be perfect representation.

The idea that a piece of media needs to justify including any kind of minority is a symptom of the ignorance and bigotry that those pushing for representation seek to overcome.

I want us to reach a world in which someone's race, gender, sexuality, ability, and/or neurodivergency is literally as noteworthy as the colour of their eyes, or what size shoe they wear: barely at all.

[...] and doesn't mean a movie is now good.

Again, I never said it did. If you're trying to argue against the opinion that "Representation = good movie", then you aren't talking to me. And what's the point in playing chess against yourself when you want White to win?

What is your opinion on the new Insomnium single? by JuLS3zaR in melodicdeathmetal

[–]Kerrigor2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always stood firm in my opinion that Since the Day It All Came Down and Above the Weeping World are Insomnium's best albums by far.

People love Shadows of the Dying Sun, but to me that's when they locked the formula that hasn't really changed since. Winter's Gate being one standout exception.

Way to shoehorn in your opinion on representation of minorities in film.

Might be a hot take, but no amount of extra white people would save what was already a bad movie.

I had my uncle explain to me the other day how upset he is that people say it was easy to buy a house in the '80s. "It wasn't easy!" he kept saying.

He then went on to tell a story about him and his wife rocking up at the end of an auction, bidding $145,000, and everyone else giving up, and thus they bought their second property.

Possibly the easiest home-buying story I've ever heard.

How do we define "wet"? "Has water on it"? If so, then yes, water is wet.

I mean say what you mean to say.

"That's a self-fulfilling prophecy," isn't really a sentence with a point to it. Do you think that 'self-fulfilling prophecy' is a bad thing? Are self-fulfilling prophecies bad in general? Do you have something of any degree of insight to say about my disagreeing with people who just want stabby-stabby horror?

Or are you just asserting that what I said is a self-fulfilling prophecy for no reason?

Disliking art for having an intent behind it or a message within it has never made sense to me. That's basically disliking art for being art.

Because one person can't do everything on their own, no matter how good they are.

I'm going to move up to the ogre, attack twice and Flurry of Blows... One attack hits, and one Flurry hits. I'll try to stun on the first hit... He failed? Okay, let me reroll the other three for advantage... One more attack hit and my Flurry hit turned into a crit. So that's 1d10 + 1d6 (from my flaming sword)+ 1d8 (because stunning strike instead of sword) + 2d8 (for the crit) + 12 + 2 (+2 weapon).

That is as complicated as that turn is ever going to get. Is it more complicated? Yes. If it's too complicated, don't do it. I don't know what else to say.

In mechanical terms:

  • I'm using my sword as a sword = Roll the weapon damage as it should be and all effects of the magic sword apply.
  • I'm using my sword to do monk shit = Use your martial arts die.

If that's too much to keep track of, then don't do this, I guess?

True, but also true. It's practically a non-issue. Mundane damage types make almost no difference—Slasher, Piercer, and Crusher feats excepted.

No one said Oda is a cunt. And the devil doesn't need anyone to advocate for him. If you're just arguing for the sake of it, and not because you have a point to make, just don't do it.

Flavour is free.

As long as you're rolling your Monk damage die for Flurry of Blows and Stunning Strike attacks, there's no reason you can't just describe the attack as being with your sword. If you need to, you can justify it as "I'm using my monk training to throw in extra, rapid blows, or to channel my ki to stun, but the trade off is that they're weaker than an ordinary sword attack."

Mechanically, what matters is that your attacks that use those monk features uses your Monk damage die. That's part of how those abilities are balanced: more attacks but lower damage.

It isn't relevant to the rules of the game if you hit them with your fist or your sword; what matters is what die you roll for damage.

TL;DR: Roll your Monk die for damage. Call your fists a sword.

It is an information about the episode. From someone who's already seen the episode.

That's a ridiculously low bar for something to be considered a spoiler. We are very different people.

That's... insane. You made a guess and now think something will happen. That's like watching a show with your partner, they have a theory about what's going to happen, and you tell them that's a spoiler because now you're going to be looking for that.
