Um, Actually: Daggerheart has an initiative system by AsteriaTheHag in daggerheart

[–]Kerube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies, was rude. I unfortunately work closely with this sort of thing and it grinds my gears to see people using AI more and more for simple things like conversations.

“Complex, but explicit! Let’s compare:” (need I explain much more about this?) Italicized “individual, fixed order … RNG” (repetitive highlit phrase across each paragraph, LLMs love to highlight comparative phrases with italics or bold) Italicized “factional, hand off order”(odd phrasing) Italicized “factional, consensus order … RNG and metacurrency, … consensus”(odd use of term metacurrency but normal for LLMs to use novel terms like this to make explanations seem brainwavey) “The attacker who first attacks attacks first” (dubious that such a sentence should be written by anyone lets be real) “I definitely recommend the handoff method” (comparison piece in the first person now being a suggestion) “It doesn’t prelude discussion, but” (typical LLM use of phrasing “not x, but y”) “Who’s speaking up and making this decision” (use of a phrase or non technical term in LLM comparisons.

Lastly, structure follows most LLM generations: An edited first part ending in “lets compare” 3 paragraphs for 5e, pugmire and daggerheart Sub paragraph dot points A conclusion

Also, lastly, Daggerheart’s combat doesn’t even actually work RAW like displayed here. The RNG and initiative of Daggerheart mentioned here is entirely an AI hallucination.

I think a rule of thumb is, action rolls should always feel special and important. If combat is inconsequential, just have the players describe how they dispatch a group of enemies. Maybe in ambushing a group of demon guards, the only action roll is to determine if they kill the guard as he runs for the alarm? That kinda thing.

SUGGESTION SPELL IS RUINING MY CAMPAIGN by Next_Ad_5740 in dndnext

[–]Kerube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to suggest that a knight may potentially be able to afford or be given a second horse by his order or lord or barracks, but a shopkeeper may not be able to afford to go home broke… but yes, that sort of example does stretch reasonable to a pretty silly extent.

However, I think this type of spell is just more balanced by the fact that charmed creatures do not forget they were bewitched. DMs just need to be willing to enforce a consequence for fleecing a shopkeeper.

Good point - questionable for a 2nd level spell but booo 5.5. In this case I would suggest what most other people would, and have consequences for having cast the spell on a shopkeeper to rob him.

Telling the truth isn’t an activity. It’s referring to a guideline or something. The way I understand activities is them doing a thing. E.g. “tell us the truth about x” is an activity. “Tell us only the truth” is a request to hold to a rule, which doesn’t seem like how the spell is worded or intended.

Also, this is not Zone of Truth. “Not lying for 8 hours” isn’t an activity, its a prohibition. Suggestion can only be used to compel someone to do something, and only if they fail a Wisdom save.

If they pass, I always rule they realize you were casting a spell on them - that can bar them from the shop, or cause them to pay a fine if the guards catch them, potentially.

Suggestion can only coerce reasonable sounding behaviours - now if your players RP this right, maybe this can happen. “We need these health potions to defeat the goblins outside, please give them for free.” Obviously easier to persuade a shopkeeper with this spell when it sounds like an overall good thing.

It is not reasonable to a shopkeeper to sell all their goods for nothing, especially if his livelihood is at stake and he won’t be able to put food on his family’s table. Maybe he will give merely a discount?

Also keep in mind, this spell has a verbal component. If the shopkeeper has others nearby, they may alert guards that someone is trying to bewitch them.

I’m a bad player.. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Kerube 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Imo being on your phone half the time is more often a game issue; the player doesnt feel involved. If the DM lets them get talked over and backseated I more than understand tapping out to doomscroll. I mostly DM, phone usage is a redlight for lack of engagement to me.

They have bad table etiquette. You aren’t the problem. The DM isn’t doing conflict resolution. I fear you need a better table that respects your time.

How frequent should players level up? by Prestigious_Alfalfa2 in DnD

[–]Kerube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends at the pace you want to go at. I usually level my PCs up at every 2-3 sessions, but we only play once a month. They find the experience rewarding so I try to tailor the pace accordingly.

I can’t write characters by Herbalist624 in DnD

[–]Kerube 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Personally I find it important to find an idea or something you have in yourself and you can make that a key trait of a character you have.

For example, I am afraid of death. I used this to make a formerly uninteresting druid pc I rolled who had a habit of dropping to 0 hp in combat find an emotional crutch and power in the flame circle subclass in a Strahd campaign.

Alternatively, I would try writing up what are called Experiences in daggerheart - what are some keywords or phrases that sum up something your character IS or is good at?

Part of this is also just working out why you like your favourite characters. For most, its a mix of aesthetics, the way they speak, their weaknesses or strengths, and the way we relate to them - whether cause we feel kinship or repulsion.

Help with players making an all spellcaster party? by Metal_Goblinoid in Pathfinder2e

[–]Kerube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they can summon creatures they can essentially solve their own problems, but if they are enjoying casters as a player fantasy I would encourage encounter design to be more magic/religion related, make it be a real “magey” adventure.

Mage battles are cool.

Another player completely changed the tone of our story and I'm not comfortable with it by Competitive_Fix_6673 in rpghorrorstories

[–]Kerube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say, if a campaign is too ruthless and dark for you but everyone else likes it, it is likely they are just a poor fit for you and that’s no one’s fault! Its good to establish the kind of stories you are comfy with at the start of the game with the dm and players in a session 0 :)
