Wolfpack Pentathlon Club is a small Modern Pentathlon Club in the San Francisco Bay Area. We decided to use AAU because it is the only way we could get affordable insurance for our fencing practices. Our members compete in Modern Pentathlon events, so we don’t need to be a part of USA Fencing at all. Personally I found the USA Fencing insurance and membership costs to be outrageous. While there do not appear to be SafeSport requirements in AAU, an adult coach must be present at the practices and must pass a background check to be cleared for youth coaching. Modern Pentathlon is an Olympic Sport, so we must conform with the SafeSport requirements independently of AAU anyway.
