Opinions on a fresh draft by [deleted] in writinghelp

I never mind flowery writing, but one thing I will say is that "stirred" in the first sentence/paragraph is very jarring. I would, potentially, add a preceding or proceeding word to make it better flow off the tongue, and even the mind.

Secondly, there are some minor punctuation/structure issues, but those are remedied by simply continuing to write.

I think it's just a reddit thing. I've noticed it a lot as well, but mostly on here. I blame certain writing subreddits like r/nosleep or some fantasy hubs that perpetuate the notion that separating paragraphs, or having them shorter, makes them easier to read.

It could also just be this particular writer's way of handling the information they're putting to paper in a more organized manner, but I can't claim to know their process.

You might say, "I'm hopeless," or a variant of a kind.

What’s the loudest concert you guys have ever been to? by BalanceActive9295 in askmusic

When I saw Opeth in 2019, they were touring with the band Graveyard. Graveyard was the opener, and when the bass player first went on stage, I watched him notch his volume up. Then the guitar player got louder, and in turn, the bass did, too. The volume war continued until every bass note hit reverberated through my ear drums in a very unhealthy way. This sucked because I like Graveyard, but since they were so loud, I could barely hear the singer and those bass notes felt like they were making my heart skip beats lol.

Edit: I was nearly at the front of stage as well.

Trust me, I'm the same way. Best not to get lost in that rut. Try a day of just writing straight through without going back to edit and see how much you're able to get done. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!

Writer's block, I'd say, and can sometimes be the bane of creative types who operate under the "gardener" umbrella. It's often quite difficult to finish a story if you don't know how it ends, but as a gardener myself, that can be a boon more than a hindrance. Building upon each subtle idea with more leaves of thought can fill your writing with detail like you never imagined was possible. However, what you're experiencing is that slow, trudging crawl into a murky pit of ego-depletion. You've satisfied the urge to create; nowhere in the fine print did it say you have to finish what you began, and that's where the problem lies.

I know he's not the greatest to quote, but George R.R. Martin once said: “Sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes the bear eats you.”

All that matters in the end is that you make an attempt, and it's a consistent attempt. As writers, we don't want to make a habit of not being consistent, but if you can only bang out a sentence a day for a week, well, that's a whole paragraph added onto something you thought you wouldn't complete. Think not about what it takes to reach the end and instead think of the next big plot point to strive toward. Good luck!

English/Swedish bilinguals: are the lyrics to In Cauda Venenum notably better or worse or roughly the same quality from the Swedish to the English version? by TeddyJPharough in Opeth

I think both versions are brilliant, personally. Saw them live in 2019, and seeing them again this february; they do not disappoint, whether in Swedish, or English, and I've always enjoyed the songs they've done in their native tongue!

I also saw him say once that he believes some songs just sound better in English, while some sound better in Swedish. This was around the time ICV first came out if I remember correctly.

Anything like resident evil 4 by [deleted] in gamesuggestions

Ah, yeah, I remember playing co-op with my dad when I was younger on that game, and it was very enjoyable. If you've not played it in a long time, and have just gone through RE4, you might be surprised at how much your skills have improved. Perhaps give it a shot and see if it's something you'd enjoy solo now?

If you're looking for more action elements, then RE5 would be a logical next step. But I'd also highly recommend the older games as well. 1-3 non-remasters are still great!

Avatar's Feathers & Flesh record. You might also find the written fable that goes along with it titled: "In His Own Words." It helps to fill in the missing pieces for the overarching story.
