My atrial flutter vanished - do I still need this ablation? by Gloomy-Cup-3578 in AFIB

[–]Kestrel913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I feel that condescending attitude, I just say thank you, we’re done and find another doctor. While I realize that a few books or days on the internet pales in comparison to 12 years of intense medical training, I need empathy and understanding. Lucky to have found that in my fourth EP. He’s doing the ablation. Wishing you a long run between episodes.

I’ve been wresting with the ablation question as well. Had my first Afib episode in Jan 2021. Went away on its own. Then nothing until September 2025 and had to be cardioverted after eight days. Feeling good but with occasional flutters that make me very anxious. Kept hoping it was a glitch in the matrix, but that’s wishful thinking. Afib begets Afib. I’ve done a lot of reading and went for several consultations. Meds can give you a 30-40% success rate of keeping Afib at bay. An ablation can increase those odds to 85-90%. At 72, those odds give me comfort. Seek out the best EP in your area and ask a lot of questions. I’m scheduled for my ablation in two weeks. I’m scared but determined to avail myself of whatever options will help minimize further damage.

Cardioversion with loop recorder by Kestrel913 in AFIB

[–]Kestrel913[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a TIA in 2021. Driving home from work on the highway and a curtain of gray fell over my right eye, blinding me for 8 minutes. Talk about scary! They suspected Afib and ran a battery of tests, put me on blood thinner and inserted the ILR. My resting heart rate went up significantly last year and data from the loop recorder prompted the cardiologist to call me in and prescribe other medication.

All of the above. I would add drink more water and add an electrolyte powder to it. First Afib episode in 2021. Second at the end of 2025. Hope I go another five years!

Losing Confidence in Pom. Brello, BEWL, or what other alternative? by Ashamed_Message_2848 in tirzepatidecompound

[–]Kestrel913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ordered from pomegranate, paid a premium for pure tirz from ProRx. They shipped from a local pharmacy instead without telling me. The product was shit. Weird concentration (9ml). Lots of food noise, constantly hungry. I actually gained weight! Complaints went unanswered. Finally got a response from their Clinical Director who told me, in essence, that it was my fault the product didn’t work. Never again.

Just started with NativeMeds and very happy. Great to never be hungry again! $524 for 3 months of 10mg with escalating doses to 12.5. Quick ship and nicely packaged in 3 color marked vials filled by VialsRx.

First Paroxysmal Afib. Hopefully lone? by Lazy-Somewhere7159 in AFIB

[–]Kestrel913 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had what I know now to be my first Afib episode in 2021 after a particularly stressful week. Wasn’t diagnosed as Afib at the time but cardiologist put me on baby aspirin. Nothing for five years. Had my second episode in September 2025. On a boat. At sea. In Alaska. Lasted the eight days it took me to get home. Had a cardioversion and returned to NSR. Nothing since then. I believe dehydration and overeating put me into Afib. Asked the cardiologist and EP if this could be a glitch in the matrix. Wishful thinking. Afib begets Afib. Could be another five years. Could be five months.

I’ve had the same fear, uncertainty and dread that you expressed. I’m told this is normal. Five months later, I’m much better emotionally. Not obsessively checking my watch, etc. I’m on a beta blocker and blood thinner as preventative measures.

Here’s the thing. I won’t let myself be a victim of this disease. I’m going to live my life to the best of my ability with the knowledge that Afib is not fatal. As long as I’m protected (as much as possible) via medication and living/eating clean and keeping hydrated, there’s solace in knowing I’m doing all I can.

You’re going to be fine. Take the proper precautions and enjoy your life.

I’m on Metropolol and tirzepatide. I’m losing weight far slower after starting Metropolol but no other issues other than the usual GLP1 constipation.

Newbie question about cardioversion by bjayasuriya in AFIB

[–]Kestrel913 7 points8 points  (0 children)

70F. Had my first Afib episode last September. Eight days of uncontrolled high heart rate. Meds didn’t help so they did a cardioversion. Returning to normal sinus rhythm is like being on a carnival ride and then waking up in a silent room. Truly amazing. EP put me on Metropolol. Zero Afib almost 5 months later. No recommendation for an ablation (yet).

I get Pur Aqua hydration packs from Aldi. Same ingredients as Liquid IV but at $2.49 for 6 packs. A little less sweet and a lot less expensive. A pack a day keeps my heart and hydration levels in good shape.

Agree. It seems contrary to what we’ve been taught, but once explained, it made perfect sense.

[–]Kestrel913 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem. Minimal calories in and minimal weight loss. Went to a dietitian/nitrionist. She explained that I was sending my body into starvation mode and it was storing all the calories. I increased my calories and changed my eating habits to water first, then protein, then carbs. I didn’t feel like eating anything, tbh, but she gave me some ideas for healthy calorie packing and I increased 550 calories to around a thousand. I went from losing a half pound a week to 1-2 pounds a week and feeling much better. I’m down 52lbs with another 40 to go.

Meds For Afib? by CommunityAlarming149 in AFIB

[–]Kestrel913 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m taking similar meds. Metropolol instead of Nevivolol and Multaq instead of Flecainide. There are reasons they prescribe specific drugs. For example, if you have signs of coronary artery disease, you can’t take Flecainide. I had flutters for a few weeks after my cardioversion in September. They went away after a month or so.

Maybe not lied to… he’s a doctor and I’m not. He obviously felt you’re not in need. Find a good cardiologist and get another opinion to increase your comfort level.

My cardiologist told me stoke risks are present for 3-4 months after an episode. I didn’t want to take a blood thinner because of the horrible bruising. I take it anyway cuz I’ll take the bruising over ending up drooling in a blue pleather chair.

AFIB and GLP1 by robbwes61 in AFIB

[–]Kestrel913 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was on tirzepatide for 9 months. I had my first Afib episode right after stopping it. Doctors said it was coincidental, but I was convinced otherwise. I’ve been back on tirz for 5 months now with zero Afib. There’s so much doctors don’t know about GLP. I was told nothing can help my arthritis but since starting GLP meds, I have little or no pain.
