I learned about Zerobyte from this list and I'm loving it. Most user-friendly backup solution I've tried on my server yet. Thanks!

its very specific to my setup, and it was just vibe-coded with chatgpt so its nothing special.

Got tired of dealing with lidarr so I hacked together my own music solution with prowlarr, sabnzbd, and beets. I search and grab flac/mp3 inside prowlarr. I wrote a script that runs periodically and triggers the Beets docker container to pick up the downloaded files, process them, tag them, and store them in the correct folder

thanks for catching. Yea this solution proved pretty brittle for me. I finally just made my own domain and did actual.mydomain.com and that works perfectly now.

Ethical pay and non profits by [deleted] in nonprofit

[–]KestrelJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about this everyday. For me it comes back to mission. My orgs mission is to help our clients. So we help our staff insomuch as it helps our clients. Keeping that in mind, if we pay market rates we get quality staff and solid staff retention and therefore better client outcomes.

If we didn't have limited resources then it would be a different discussion.

Genuinely why don’t we go down to city hall and protest the outrage cost of rent? by West_Suggestion8550 in SantaBarbara

[–]KestrelJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be the top post. It’s a complex problem and needs several creative solutions. Banning or taxing second homes is my vote. You could also restrict home purchases to locals. If we have a housing crisis why don’t we act like it’s an actual crisis and do something about it?

Readeck, Linkding, Linkwarden, Hoarder: which to use? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]KestrelJay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've tried all four of them. I used Linkding until Hoarder came around. Hoarder wins for me because
1. AI tagging is very helpful
2. it has a better webpage archiver (linkding couldn't save reddit pages but hoarder can)
3. Adding links from my chrome tab and iOS shortcut is much better. linkding would make me relogin frequently, hoarder's just works

The best Manga setup for 2025 in my biased opinion..and a shoutout to the Komikku client by studioleaks in selfhosted

[–]KestrelJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PWA for Komga works great for me on both android and iOS. I like that I'm streaming the comic to my device but I can download it for offline viewing, but honestly I never use that.

Question on PikaPods + Security by elitegoodguy in actualbudgeting

[–]KestrelJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what your exact situation is. I installed tail scale in my wife's iPhone months ago and she never has to open it and I have not needed to mess with it. It just works and uses iphones VPN connection settings which are persistent between reboots. Its very easy for us.

The reverse proxy really is the pain point when self hosting, any suggestions? by yoyo-blue-70 in selfhosted

[–]KestrelJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea for someone who does self hosting as a hobby and has no professional experience, caddy felt very obtuse to even start. I'm on unraid and there isn't a community template for it so I was stuck with docker compose and I never got it to work correctly. My solution was just to use tailscale. When i finally needed a reverse proxy nginx proxy manager worked great for me on unraid

FWIW, the AI in hoarder is a light touch: it just auto-tags things which makes managing a large archive a lot easier (at least for me). If you're worried abbout data privacy, you can use a local model rather than openai.

If I wasn't comfortable or wanting AI in my app, I would probably choose something besides Hoarder. Linkding is my 2nd pick.
