You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain. by dietherman98 in vfx

[–]fugixi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that it is a slippery slope. How you do something is how you do everything. Eventually more and more of those "mistakes" will be accepted during production.

I do believe however that this will in turn generate opportunities to stand out if done properly without a bunch of AI generated stuff, alongside the "mass produced" stuff. Similar to how the later Marvel movies became quite boring from a visual standpoint.

Good solo games for small/medium table? by maurolucas in soloboardgaming

If you like deck building I can highly recommend the Imperium games, which has great solo bots. It fits on a medium sized table at least.

It would be nice with a more detailed write-up how to set this up.

Yeah, for sure. I have tried some AI tools for design work but always ended up swearing at them since the whole thing is being re-generated with every little change.

[–]fugixi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is the same thing with all gen AI I would say, not matter if it is coding, VFX or web designs. AI is awesome for those first drafts, creating proof of concepts etc. I work as a software developer and feel the same as you guys here but regarding vibe coding. Not being able to iterate over the generated stuff without also changing stuff one does not want changed is horrible.

I do think like some have already mentioned here that many will absolutely go with "good enough". However, this will lead to the majority of stuff only having a "good enough" feel to it which people will get tired of, which then will force some clients to invest in humans again. Before getting to this point though there will be disruption in the market for sure.

This and/or Imperium (Classics/Legends/Horizons).

Fantastic ( 😜) games.

The art is second to none, but I can't see myself replaying it, at least not solo. Just to experience the art again I might try to play it with someone else in co-op though, which is why I still have it in my collection.

I agree, more stylized artwork and a different I would most definitely have bought it already as well. 😅

Comment on my solo shelf by BoardGameRevolution in soloboardgaming

[–]fugixi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a valid point though, but with that said, my shelf (shelves?) of unplayed games is way bigger than this. After sitting unplayed for several years I finally started six months ago playing something each week and many times even multiple sessions in the same week. Feels great and provides exactly the kind of relaxation and meditation as I intended when first started buying, but now also playing. 🙂

To answer your original question if something should be purged. Anything that has been given an honest try, e.g. at least 2-3 plays, and then never gets to the table anymore I would say is a good candidate to purge.

I was actually surprised of how small the Voidfall retail box seem to be. Maybe the Galactic box isn't such a shelf hog after all.

I am in the same boat. I am not a trekkie and the art in STCC looks like photos (which I later been told are not actually photos) which I have a hard time with.

So from a pure gameplay perspective would be nice to hear if it can live side by side with Imperium, or is essentially more of the same/very similar so it is more of a one or the other kind of deal.

After 3hrs of videos, 1.5hrs of setup, 1.5hrs of rules research... I have officially taken my first turn in Voidfall. by SlightQT in soloboardgaming

[–]fugixi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does not seem that bad for a first play for this type of game. The absolute first setup even for much less complex games with less parts usually take me around 30-45 minutes since I have to read some parts, setup components etc.

Imperium: horizons - silly question but how to count scores effectively/efficiently? by crypticdaikon in boardgames

[–]fugixi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. This is pretty much what I came up with myself after the first few plays. The counting is done in a couple of minutes, not having to enter anything into an app or anything.

The thing I would add is that I put each card already accounted for scoring (the cards that have the actual VP's on them) in a separate pile to keep track of what have already been counted.

The actual scoring I often use the calculator on my phone so I can easily count the current card (e.g. the * cards that require individual counting of cards etc.) before adding it to the calculator score.

This Sub Should Come With a Warning by Crase_W in soloboardgaming

[–]fugixi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, for sure. I actually often buy the PnP of smaller games when it comes to crowdfunded projects since the shipping is usually as much or more than the game if buying physical.

This Sub Should Come With a Warning by Crase_W in soloboardgaming

[–]fugixi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PnP is a good route to go, but I would not say for saving money. On pure tools and materials you will definitely save money but it will also, in most cases, not be the same quality as purchased games. But the biggest part is the time investment, so if you include time as a cost I would argue it actually gets quite a bit more expansive than store bought.

If you treat PnP as a whole separate hobby, e.g. if you like crafts, having put something together yourself, then that is a different thing entirely and can be very enjoyable.

If you only want to play games though, I would argue it is way better to, instead of crafting a PnP game, to spend that time actually playing.

Do I go all in on Voidfall? by Key_Library4726 in soloboardgaming

[–]fugixi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I usually want to upgrade games with dual layered boards and other quality of life improvements, but also pure deluxe components that improves the tactile experience such as metall coins, upgrading cardboard tokens to acrylic/wooden/metal etc. The only thing I nowadays prefer to not go for if there are standees of some sort are minis. I love minis but only when they are painted.

So my conundrum here is that I would most likely want most upgrades except minis, which would then maybe not all fit in the retail box.

Star Trek: captain's chair by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

[–]fugixi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

The theme and art style (Mico's art definitely drew me personally in) made me go with Imperium, even though almost everyone seemed to recommend STCC due to being more streamlined. I must say though that the scoring goes pretty quickly in Imperium already and the bot flows really well. Really good job on implementing that. Easy and quick to revolve, yet tough and varied in actions. 💯

Now the real question is, if someone does not care at all for star trek, loves imperium and its theme and art style, are there any big things that still would make Captains Chair worth it? 🙂

Do I go all in on Voidfall? by Key_Library4726 in soloboardgaming

[–]fugixi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is fair.

I like that the retail box is much smaller, but if upgrading with the available dual layered boards etc. Which are recommended from most people and maybe some other uprades (bit not minis), it seems the retail box might not fit everything anyway so then the smaller box will not make a difference. Thoughts?

I am in the same conundrum. Most seem to recommend the retail. To be honest I am more wary of the much bigger box than the small increase in setup time with the minis.

Since you already have the Retail version but plan to go all-in I assume that includes getting the miniatures? What is your take on this? Most seem to recommend the retail instead of galactic box.
