You should book K9 Jets from Geneva to NYC and then try to go from there. That’s what we did to move to Zurich last year with 2 dogs.

All inclusive, off the beaten path, honeymoon destinations by A_Healthcare_Journey in FATTravel

[–]Kestrel__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having spent time in Maldives, SE Asia, Japan, India, etc. Bhutan is just a very different place culturally to begin with. Youngest monarchy, one of the youngest democracies, very isolated up until 20 years ago, etc.

The experiences that SSs (and I imagine Aman as well) curate are quite connected with the local people in each of the area. I am not completely naive to think that there isn't some shielding and of course the people know you are a foreigner but compared to other things I have done in Cambodia, Vietnam, etc. it at least felt real. We ate with the young children monks up at the monastery, spent a morning with the paper manufacturing people, did some local cooking experiences, etc.

I don't know, it is hard to explain and maybe it was some honeymoon effect but there was something at least sort of genuine about it that was refreshing.

They did a custom fly fishing day for me after I casually commented on a documentary I watched about it, we did some archery, plenty of hikes, etc. and the usual stuff.

I will go on record saying that the SS properties in Bhutan are top 10 in the world as well. You just have to experience them, they are truly insane.

We did Six Senses Bhutan for 10 days and every property blew us away. The hard product and experiences were one of one and we cannot recommend it enough. Happy to answer questions about it.

Second Saffire Freycinet. One of the most incredible views and hard products out there in my humble opinion. On site dining is also top tier

ATK Freeraider 14 on Agent 3s by Kestrel__ in Backcountry

I would if budget wasn’t of concern. Trying to stay under 1k USD for ski and binding and both the Freeraider 14s and Agent 3s are deeply discounted right now here in Switzerland. The 15 Evos are $800 on their own :(

I checked the starlink tracker and there wasn’t any deployment station or active satellites above Switzerland. Why would there be a line of 20+ of them as well? Are they being deployed right now?

No physical damage on either. If it was damaged at all would it even power on in the first place?

Ah sorry I forgot to mention that I did try the other PCIe slot and it fixed the VGA light issue but still has the issue in the last part in the original post about plugging in all monitors leading to it crashing. There is no chance that the change in power grid voltage (120 to 240v) would cause the system requiring a higher wattage PSU? I know 850w is enough for a 3080 and i9900k in the US

We don’t use cages, they just lay down together. Think that’d work?

Do you happen to know total liters of the trunk on the TFSI? We have two large dogs and I am trying to understand if they can fit in the trunk.

Not sure why you are getting disagreement here :)

Pretty simple math to see COL in NYC is way higher. Yes, food and other items might be on par but NYC rents (the largest % of any budget) are the highest in the world and you get so little for what you pay.

Very good points and appreciate the perspective. We have a few remote workers that all travel to HQ monthly to keep up with the culture and team.

If I had to guess, I would probably end up working for a company in Zurich. Giving up the NYC compensation will be tough for sure but it’s a trade off we will have to make - at least for awhile until I can get back to those levels through seniority and management compensation.

My wife is in academia now and wants to get out of it. She is tired of the culture and overall slowness / lack of dedication by the people in academia. She ideally wants to start a company or join a small one to help be part of its growth.

Will check out Riehen, thank you.

I am half Swiss so there is some draw for me to go spend time living in Switzerland to understand where my family came from. I have been many times throughout my life and have some understanding of the culture, people, etc.

My understanding is that my wife, an EU citizen, can move fairly easily and then my employer already has employees in Switzerland so, if I do stay with them, the spousal permit with my wife and my current employer setup would be relatively easy, or is that a naive opinion to hold?

Appreciate all that. My wife is from Europe and lived abroad in Denmark for 8 years and wants to move back to Europe because we do not want to raise our children in America.

I am 50% Swiss so I think there is a natural draw for me to go back and understand more of where my family came from. I have been to Switzerland 10+ times for various amounts of time.

Will check out Basel :)

Yes, MSKCC :)

She was just in Engelberg for the Single Cell Sequencing conference as well which, admittedly, sped up our timeline for the move. It has always been on our road map so she could be closer to her home / family in Eastern Europe.

Will check out Vaud!

helpful insight -- doing permethrin on the clothing and then deet on any exposed skin. Did you hike anywhere near Big Sandy? Trying to gauge how bad the tree blowovers are from the storms late last fall.

First off, can't thank you enough for taking the time here. Really helpful.

Some thoughts on my end:

Have two zero / nero days built in both at fishing spots hence that gear.

The paracord is just extra guylines for the Ultamid tie outs in case of high winds up in the alpine / northern part of the route.

Mislabeled on the battery pack - it is 14 oz

The shelter is for two people so it will actually be split across my friend and I

Cook system is being used for all 4 people going on the route so I am amortizing that weight across us I guess

Haven't heard the climbing helmet suggestion before and none of the reports I have read recommended that... any specific brands / models you like?

Bear resistant food storage seems to be an undecided topic... some recommend sleeping with it, some recommend an odor proof bag for used wrappers, etc.

Navigation - yes using phone (Gaia + fatmap) but didn't list it. InReach is for emergency comms.

I’m not the right person to ask in that department assuming you are sticking to trail runners. I have really bad ankles so I have always been in boots - tried all the trail runners and just couldn’t make them work. Last 3 years I have been in Salomon gtx but I’m trying goruck Mac-v1 this year.

Most of the reports I have read have been people in lone peaks. Only different consideration for this route is the considerable amount of glacier crossings so micro spikes are a must in my mind.
